This is the first review I have ever written. As a person that has a sweet tooth, I just had to let others know how bad my experience was with this place. My husband surprised me with a little 8 in diameter cake and 24 cupcakes for my birthday. When I saw the cake at my party, I was pleased...everything looked great. However, when I started to cut the cake, I noticed the fondant was not sticking to the cake...but I was still excited to eat it because it looked good. When I took the first bite, I was soooo disappointed! The cake was EXTREMELY dry, bland, and stale tasting. The icing wasnt bad, but the cake part of the cake and cupcakes was awful! No one at the party liked the cake or cupcakes...we couldnt even give it away! The next day, I called and spoke to the manager. I told her how bad the cake and cupcakes were and asked if everything was fresh. The manager told me the cake is made 1 - 2 days in advance and the cupcakes were made fresh daily. However, the cupcakes and cake were equally dry and stale tasting. I offered to drive the leftovers to the bakery repeatedly to prove my point but the manager didnt want to see the leftovers. A few days later, the manager called me back and said they stand by their product and offered me a gift card. The gesture was nice, but I declined because if a bakery cant make a decent cupcake, I highly doubt anything else would be good. And by the way, my husband paid $180 for a little cake, 24 cupcakes, and a cardboard cupcake stand. Dont waste your money, go to Sams Club or Giant. If you still decide to try this place, go taste something first and ask that your items be made fresh, not days in advance.

We wanted special cupcakes for our son and future daughter-in-laws engagement party. We live in NE Philly and didnt want to drive either into center city Philly or other areas that were far from here. After doing some additional online searches, we found Velvet Sky in Jenkintown...almost in our back yard! Jordyn was most helpful, as I had a difficult time deciding which flavor choices to make when she showed me all of the varieties they have!! We chose, upon her advise, 4 varieties - caramel filled (and frosted!) vanilla, double chocolate, blueberry with lemon frosting and apple with caramel frosting. Each was more beautiful and delicious that then next. Our guests were overwhelmed and all loved them. In addition to TASTING amazing, they looked spectacular on the dessert table. We will definately use them again...even if we just go to the cafe for coffee and dessert! A must do!

Wow!!! Really truly amazing cakes and cupcakes!! We contacted the new owner Jordan to discuss cake ideas for my sons 2nd birthday and the end results were better than I couldve imagined!! Thomas was our theme and the cake was ridiculously cute and all the cupcakes were decorated with different colors and faces to be Thomas and his other train friends. It's been a week since we picked up the cake and it still tastes amazing and fresh. Jordan was great and worked with us and our budget. Will will definitely recommend her and velvet sky to everyone!!

I am a Jenkintown Resident and I like to patronize small local businesses. When i saw the Velvet Sky sign "Under New Ownership" I went right in and tried their cupcakes. I was very very very pleasantly surprised. The new owners at Velvet Sky got it RIGHT!. Their cupcakes are "Terrific" The cake itself is moist, with a good smooth cake texture. The flavors are great! There is a large variety to choose from. No matter what flavor icing you get it is sweet but not too sweet. I have gone back numerous times and it keeps getting better.

Fell short of my expectations. These cupcakes arent anything special nor are they worth $2 a pop. Cupcakes just gave a plan chocolate or vanilla base (with the exception of the red velvet) and are topped with a slightly creative frosting which gives each cupcake their "flavor." The cake was bland and had been frozen the night before (I picked mine up when they opened in the morning and they were still cold and hard.) Id personally rather have cupcakes from a box.

Ordered a birthday cake for my 6 year old boy. The cake was decorated very well using the theme that we had requested, which was Cars. Each design on the cake proved that they took time and care in decorating it. Moreover, the cake tasted very good. Our usual bakery is whole foods but weve been ordering from the Velvet Sky as well. And this time they super impressed us. The pricing is certainly a bit high but they make up for it in quality.

For a bakery that claims they are the king of the cupcake, the clerk couldnt even put a smile on her face for a four year old. My children were so excited to see all the cupcakes, however they were greeted with complete lack of enthusiasm and impatience. Then to make it even worse the cupcakes were of poor quality. The cake itself was dry and favorless and the icing lacked sweetness. I would not recommend this bakery.

Delicious gluten free cupcakes! I mean it, I have shared them with friends who love their "regular" cupcakes and they couldnt taste the difference. None of that "gluten free" taste to them. Vanilla Chocolate and Red Velvet cakes are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays and you can get any of the icings (only 2 have gluten). You can also order a half dozen any day of the week, just have to be the same cake base.

Absolutely exquisite... they bake about 20 different flavors of cupcakes every morning, that change from day to day. They are absolutely delicious! Their red velvet cupcake is soft and moist, and the cream cheese icing on it is to die for. They have some great flavors - choc chip pancake, pumpkin, and "caramel macchiato" are some of my favs. For $3 a pop they are worth every penny.

i stopped in velvet sky bakery cafe today and the coffee and cupcake i had were beyond description. incredible flavors that i never get at other coffee shops and the variety of cupcake flavors is overwhelming. the pictures of the cakes that they can fabricate is a wonderful sight and i will be ordering a cake in the near future. you must check out the website.

We ordered dairy free cupcakes to celebrate a birthday on very short notice and Velvet Sky came through. We had the most delicious yellow cupcakes with a variety of icings (vanilla, raspberry and chocolate). The texture of the cake and the icings were wonderful. Anyone who has to eat dairy free should know about this bakery.

I found this place on a whim after going dress shopping in the area. Originally from Toronto I just googled cafes in the area and found this cute little gem. I purchased 4 cupcakes and a cappuccino. I ordered cookies and a giant cupcake for my mothers birthday. The cookies were fabulous and the cupcake looked great but unfortunately, it was all gone before I got a chance to say, "Save me a bite!" The lucky ones who got a bite loved it. Cant wait to order more.
