Dropped by around 1:30 PM on Palm Sunday. Walked in to place an order only to be told by the girl at the counter they were out of everything. I was disappointed but figured hey, its Palm Sunday, maybe they got slammed. But the fellow behind me was ticked off, stalking off, muttering under his breath as he walked to his Kia Genesis. At that point, a burly guy w/ a beard and t-shirt sitting at a picnic table yelled, "Ill never apologize for running out." When I politely suggested posting a sign, he snapped that there was one on the door even though there wasnt - in fact the girl at the counter was at the entrance looking on the floor for the sign. He glared some more and I left. Shakedown has solid BBQ in a region where there are few good options. Last fall, it received a favorable review in a NY Times travel article on bbq off of I-81. Today, it seems to be increasingly successful. Unfortunately, its manners and customer service has failed to keep up with its growth.

Shakedown BBQ is a nice addition to the West Hanover Area. Theyre open Thursday - Sunday for lunch and dinner (or until sold out), on the corner of Linglestown and Jonestown road. Its an outdoor food stand basically with covered seating and a few picnic tables. They cook everything right there on site: beef, pork & chicken sandwiches ($5.66 -7.55) , platters($7.55-13.21), beverages & sides of coleslaw, potatoes & bbq beans. You can also get babyback ribs ($22.64, which were quite tasty) or quarter, half or whole chicken breasts or legs. All in all we spent about 45 bucks on dinner for 5 people. It was pretty decent, Id go back next time im visiting my parents. The two workers were pretty friendly & had some grateful dead music playing. The prices were a little bit higher than what we were looking to pay, but not bad really. Cash only.

This place smells amazing. We could tell we were close as we approached about 1/2 mile away.Home made sauces great.homemade Cole slaw perfect. We shared a sampler of pulled pork, beef brisket and ribs. All fabulous. Baked beans nice spicy kick. Just pull off the highway and eat here.you wont be disappointed. Extra bonus, come watch Sunday football on their big screen tvs. Followed up with incredible homemade toasted marshmallow sweet potato pie. The folks running the place gave me a sample of their dipping sauces for fries.one was a marshmallow and the other was a garlic onion.love both.Wish We lived here.

My wife and I shared their Tres Hombres sandwich. This sandwich is huge and Im someone who can really throw down. The fries are great, really good consistency and not too greasy, the coleslaw is good and their bacon is incredible, the biggest problem I had was the pulled pork, it was not even warm or well seasoned. You can taste that it has a good smoked flavor but it really needs a bit more seasoning. The spicy sauce is pretty good, but the sweet is bland. The smoked sausage is very good and not dry. Overall I left satisfied and had a good experience, definitely worth trying.

We had brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. Shared with each other. So tender you can cut it with a fork. If you are lucky as we were they had mac and cheese as a side dish. Coleslaw was coarse chop, but manageable. The hidden gem is their fries. Dont know how they prepared them, but they were crunchy and good. I saw a lot of folks taking pans of bbq out, so this must be a destination for BBQ food for the area. Visit their website for more info on catering. We plan to use them at a future event.

By far the worst BBQ EVER! How did this place manage to stay open for 6 years? I have eaten some bad BBQ in my time (you can find my reviews on zamato, I have reviewed over 40 different BBQ joints all over the US) but I aways finished the food in front of me... this time I threw away more then 50%... the cardboard (they called it brisket) was so bad I cried for the cow... just bad!!!

My family and I were looking for a place that wasnt a chain and were glad we stumbled upon this place. The ribs were spectacular without too much fat, and the cucumber salad was a pretty good side. The two people that served us were very friendly as well. Would recommend to anyone traveling through the area.

Coming from the south, there are a few things I judge harshly and BBQ is one of them. Shakedown is hands down the best, most authentic BBQ around. The fresh creative menu only further highlights their immensely tasty smoked meats. Be sure to check out their FB page for upcoming events and breakfast dates!

This is THE place for BBQ in central PA. The menu is always evolving but my favorite is the pulled pork. This place has character unlike any other, great music is always playing. Bring your favorite beer too, BYOB! If you follow their social media keep an eye out for when they do breakfast, its amazing!!!

Food and portions are always amazing. Prices are steeper, but usually worth it for the quality and flavor of the food being served. Seating is CRAMPED so avoid coming a 12pm or 6pm when lunch and dinner crowds roll in. Menu changes constantly, which is sometimes awesome and sometimes frustrating.

Its very nice when the staff recognizes you when you walk in. We buy a lot of BBQ to take home. The food is off the cuff. The service is quick to serve your food and the atmosphere is pleasant with rock and roll music! All around a great place for real BBQ!!

Quality BBQ, with variety of excellent sauces, from several spicy red sauces to classic Carolina vinegar (and even a creamy Carolina sauce). Local Hershey (not candy bar company) ice cream. Try Oatmeal Cookie. Nice family run place.

Both the Turkey and Pork BBQ was very flavorful and juicy. Not too much sauce as to drown out the flavor of the meat. Fare priced, Decent music: Doors at the time. Small seating area but comfy atmosphere. Id go out of my way to come back.

A great Summer stop for a bunch of friends before the casino! They have cornhole and other games for outside play. The food is always top notch! My friends and I always prefer to eat here than any place inside Hollywood Casino!

Best barbeque in Harrisburg. The only reason it doesnt get 5 stars is because their hours are silly. They also will close out of the blue for no reason, but the place has such a solid reputation that people keep coming back.

Loved it! The pork was cooked perfectly, the bun was fresh and topped with some seasonings. Only a couple minutes off the exit. The service is fast and friendly. Well worth the cost. I highly recommend stopping in.

I visited 10 months ago with friends. The food was fantastic. The staff was great. And the chef honestly looked like had just gotten off his Harley. Just as nice as he could be. He knew his stuff though. Excellent.

Good portion of meat on brisket sandwich. If you like loads & loads of pepper on your baked beans, youll love them. I dont. Brisket sandwich had loads of pepper as well. No french fries or steak fries available. ☹️
