Ruby Jewel is pretty much everything you could want in an ice cream shop! Service tends to be faster than some of the other spots in town, but the ice cream is still delicious and unique. The rotating flavors are different from your standards but not as out of this world as Salt and Straw tends to be. They have some options for those who cant do dairy (always nice!). Additionally, the ice cream sandwiches are the best. Id recommend getting the small ones unless youre quite hungry. Also, unless you really want ice cream, one scoop with two flavors (a split scoop) is probably the way to go. The scoops are HUGE and very filling, especially in a waffle cone. Yum....

Do you laugh when your friends say you have a sweet tooth and think to yourself “That’s an understatement”? Do you have a special second stomach reserved just for ice cream, and no matter how much you eat for dinner there’s always room for that frozen treat? Do you think of cookies as an appropriate side dish or garnish to any and every meal? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then my friend, this is the place for you. Sorry I didn’t take any pictures of my food. The double chocolate chip cookie mint chip ice cream sandwich didn’t last long enough. But trust me, it was very, very good.

Im always shocked that this place doesnt have a line going around the corner. This ice cream is amazing! Theyre always coming up with new flavors, the staff is very friendly and theyre incredibly generous with samples! Also, theyve got great fantastic ice cream sandwiches and, oddly enough, I think the gluten-free ice cream sandwiches are actually better than the gluteny ice cream sandwiches. Theyve got a great rotating selection of soft serve too! Recently, Ive been a fan of their licorice ice cream and berry ice cream with chocolate bits.

Ruby Jewel is in decent location that is close to a bunch of restaurants. There arent too many dessert specific places, so Ruby Jewel is the place to go. The ice cream sandwiches are good sized and the prepacked ones are cheaper in their small freezer. Not all the ice cream flavors are winners, but they have some good options. This place isnt as popular as Salt & Straw, and doesnt feature the wild flavors, but the ice cream is above average. Normally, this type of place would be a 4 star, but there is some tough competition in Portland.

What can I say, its one of the best food groups known to man. When you walk in, you are greeted with the most heavenly aroma of what I can only imagine is their homemade waffle cones. After sampling a few flavors I settled on strawberry & chocolate/peanut butter in a waffle cone. I could have had 50. The only tricky part of this experience is the parking is limited, its downtown, but hey, totally worth it. I inhaled my cone like it was my job and lived happily ever after. :D

Im just going to start with the fact that my wife would have given this review a 5 star but this is my review and I give it a 4 star. The ice cream is good and the staff is generally friendly. Its fairly easy to get in and out of and the location is pretty centrally located for the west side of Portland. The only real criticism I have is that on a few visits I have gotten a scoop with pieces of ice which I wouldnt expect with a quality ice cream.

Heard their ice cream was great. Saturday night we couldnt find close parking. Walked 6 blocks to arrive at 10:45, expecting an 11 pm closing. Maybe 10 people were in line in front of us. Everyone inside. The line wasnt even out the door. Then 2 of the people in front of us were told that only the people in front of them would be served. There is more to running a business than good product. You need to serve your customers. I wont be back.

This is definitely my favorite ice cream place in Portland so far. I came here recently and tried one of their April flavors just before the month ended; it was Chocolate Dipped Macaroons. It was chocolate ice cream with chunks of chocolate dipped macaroons. Delicious! The ice cream sandwiches are pretty irresistible, but this time I wanted to try their waffle cones and that was a great decision. Cant wait to try the May flavors!

The staff is always super friendly. They let you try whatever you want without making you feel bad about yourself. Ruby Jewel has amazing ice cream and really unique flavors. The seasonality of certain flavors makes it easy to visit the store regularly. Though I havent done it myself, they have a make-your-own ice cream sandwich thing that looks fun. I would definitely recommend!

Yes Im going to say it, this place is as good as the other famous Portland-born ice cream joint, gasp. I come here way more often because there is never much of a line, location is downtown close to our favorite go-to eats and the menu always has something new that we like. Come with your date and enjoy sitting outside watching the scene in this happening new restaurant area.

Have only been in once, though am not sure this Ruby Jewel location has been around for too long, and had a good experience. The lady behind the counter offered ice cream combination ideas and made sure to tell us of their $3 special for the night: ice cream and espresso...the Root Beer float has nothing on you. Good experience, and some decent homemade ice cream.

Do you know what more places in Portland should offer? Soft Serve. I tried Ruby Jewels chocolate ice creams, and cinnamon and a whole slew of other flavors, and I ended up getting a bowl of their peppermint soft serve. It was like eating cool whip as it wasnt super cold, and it was so light and creamy. It is great competition for Salt & Straw.

Cute, modern-rustic decor, delicious aroma of freshly backed waffle cones, and handmade ice cream! Great combination right? Yup! The only thing i didnt like was the taste of the ice cream at first, but then i got used to it. My guess is because it was made from fresh products, which lets face it, we are not used to... Or at least Im not.

My husband and I stopped in for some ice cream between lunch and an afternoon meetings — and couldnt have been happier. I had the caramel salted chocolate and it was killer! The salted chocolate was really a nice touch to caramel ice cream. The service was outstanding and there was no pressure to move quickly or rush our decision.

Fun and unique flavors that are still sweet but mix savory elements in as well. Dont be turned off by something that sounds unusual, just ask for a taste if youre worried about fully committing to something. Dogs are allowed inside as well which is a bit unusual for Portland but nice if youve got a four legged friend with you.

They sold out of their best flavors early in the day so make sure to come early if you can. Parking can be a difficult situation, however on a hot summer day a short walk cant hurt. Staff is very nice and do their best to accommodate customers. Quality of ice cream is good, if not a bit sweet for some pallets.

This is the best place Ive ever had ice cream EVER! Their ice cream is SO good you have to try it. My favorite flavor is cookies n cream its amazing! I wouldve rated this a 4.5 though if I could only because i wouldve liked more flavors to choose from, other than that PERFECT and the decor is fantastic!!!!
