Very comfortable pleasant ambiance. Staff was very friendly and attentive, although the kitchen was very slow, but wait staff made up for that by bringing me a free cup of chili as soon as they realized the kitchen problem. Beers were good, not as exciting as other places, but this is Portland, and that is to be expected. Long established breweries often lag well behind newer cutting edge ones, but Mac has loosened up on their brewers allowing them to create better beers along with the older tired "tried and true" standards. The food menu selections were better than I remembered at other places, but maybe that as well is an indication of loosening up the autocracy, and my less than frequent patronage. A good place to meet. Pool, shuffleboard, and other entertainment too. I will reconsider my options to include Mac more often, especially now that a friend lives next door.

Will never go back. The service was TERRIBLE. I mean, I know McMenninimins is renowned for their horrible service but this really really took the cake. Waited 20 minutes for our beer and an additional 20 minutes for our food (just a hummus plate). Then waited another 15 minutes for the check. We were ready to walk out. But, the kicker is that the place was totally EMPTY and for the most part our waiter stood around texting. It was terrible.

I went in, got a beer from the bartender, acknowledged a server and then sat outside. I was never greeted, spoken to or offered a refill on my empty beer. I wrote a yelp review, they sent me a gift card and when I went to use it, I sat outside and went through the same experience. I followed the directions of their "order inside sign" and sat for a good 20min with and empty glass. Again. Not sure how I slipped through the cracks?

Love coming here during the winter to sit by the fire and have a drink. Everytime I ate food here I left thinking I wish I had nothing at all to eat than that. Even things that shouldnt be messes up like Cajun tots or fries are so oily its hard to keep them down. Its tempting when you go and its late night happy hour, but you go there for late night drinks by the fire and maybe pool.

Ive been here twice, and both times, Ive been ignored by the server. The food has also taken forever to arrive both times, and when it does arrive, tastes overcooked. Water was never refilled unless asked. Also, even though i understand dark mood lighting, but this place was really, really dark inside, I could barely see the food I was eating.

Came to Portland for.vacation and hotel suggested we eat here. GREAT music and Great atmosphere! Love the wood burning fireplaces! Waitress was very friendly and suggesting great food and beer choices and we are traveling with a 1 year old and all went swell. So I would say family friendly indeed. Weird comment but best burger buns ever! Lol

It may be "just another McMenamins", but I think that is a good thing. The place gets pretty busy and the wait time for drinks or food gets pretty long. But if you happen in there when it isnt completely slammed, the service is great and the food is pretty good. Good selection of drinks and a good happy hour.

Abysmal service! 30 min to be acknowledged; this was only after we went up to the bar to order, 40 min to get a drink after ordering it (the food came before the drink) and a snotty attitude to boot. I have received better service at plaid pantry. My shadow will never darken thier doorway ever again.

Horrible experience. I was taking a little while to figure out what I wanted. Eventually the waiter stopped coming to my table to ask for my order and I sat there for about 20 minutes starving before leaving the place. Before that the waiter was extremely rude to me! Horrible place I will never go back!

I like McMenanins, I really do. However, I wish that the menu would be as distinct from local to local as the decor is. There are roughly 4 McMenamins within 10 blocks of the Blue Moon with the same exact menu. They need to change it up a bit. However, I do enjoy the Blue Moons decor and charm.

Our waitress made our experience amazing during the eclipse. Jess was friendly, sweet and attentive, our drinks and food were yummy and we couldnt have asked for better service. Will definitely be back soon. Management has really turned things around since I was last here 6 months ago!

As expected from most an Mcmenamins, the food is quite good. And I enjoy that you can sit in the outside area if you want to enjoy the people traffic. Its better than average, but not quite good enough to get a 4 rating. Maybe Ill change my mind next time I go. 3.5stars!

McMenamins food is getting progressively worse, which is such a shame considering how great their spaces are. I only come here when other people want to, and even then I only really eat the cajun tots. The shuffleboard tables and the fireplace earn them a third star.

Excellent McMenamins food so you already know what youre getting ahead of time. I loved the seating here because theyre able to completely open up the restaurant on the side and have fresh air and good lighting from outside. One of my favorite McMenamins locations.

This bar definitely attracts a younger, singles-oriented crowd, probably because its open so late and has table shuffleboard and pool. Its a nice space, especially if its late and you want to grab a cheap pint and some pretty good happy hour food.

I really like this place because it has good food and really good drink specials and i like the fire place and you t a lot and love everybody and dinosaurs. meet interesting and cool people at the fireplace and i like the warmth that i feel there.

This is, for real, probably the only place Ive straight up not left a tip. I know McMenamins is never going to have stellar service but this place is one of the worst. But if youre hammered the tots are always good. So there is that.

Go here for the beer and tots but as is common with all McMenamins, be prepared for infrequent service. Be ready to order everything as soon as your server stops by and plan on waiting 20 min for any food order, no matter how small.

The tots here are done perfectly, and a generous side helping of them comes with most sandwiches/burgers. For vegetarians, I recommend the bean and seed sliders (which are really more the size of regular burgers and you get two).

Their food is ok but not great, but the waitstaff is always incredibly nice and theyve got killer deals during their HH and late night HH. Key features include a big fireplace, pinball machines, pool tables and shuffle board.

When I first moved to portland this was one of my favorite spots. Great location on 21st and you can always enjoy the standard mcmenamins happy hour. dont miss the cajun tots. Lots to do after you hang out here along 21st.
