Edit: The food is NOT always good. I come here once every 2 weeks or so and bring my friends and will continue to. While Im not easy to impress with food, I give Chens my seal of approval for great Chinese-American food and for having the best General Tsos Chicken Ive ever had. In fact, I like it so much it takes a lot of willpower to try something new, and when I do, it has always been something that I enjoyed. Mandarin Deluxe, Green Bean Chicken, Oolong tea, Szechuan Chicken, Kung Pao... all very good. On the menu there is a section called "Chens Recommended Dishes" In this list there are great ones such as the famous (to me) General Tsos, Mandarin Deluxe, Sesame Shrimp, etc. Tonight I thought to try Walnut Shrimp. What a mistake. It is described as "Deep fried crispy shrimp and walnut mixed in special honey sauce." All true, except for the very end. Special honey sauce?! Heck no. Let me describe this dish in as few words as possible. Crispy Shrimp on a bed of rice and lettuce slathered with Mayonnaise. Being such a hungry cheapskate I ignored my instincts and ate as much as I possibly could but I just couldnt do it. The first time in my adult life that I left a plate unfinished except for Thanksgiving seconds or thirds. I had to swish my mouth with Oolong tea to remove the Big Mac Sauce taste. It was disgusting. I just looked up the ingredients and realized I have made this dish at home before and it was so far from similar that it didnt even occur to me that I had. 5 stars minus 1 for poor menu description and then another simply because I now have an intense stomache ache. Ill forgive you for the dish soap flavored Pepsi on my previous visit. I will return, but damnit, remove that trash from the menu so that someone else doesnt make the same mistake of paying 11 dollars for Big Mac Sauce Shrimp

The food is ALWAYS great, with absolute consistency. The staff is friendly. The portions are plentiful. There are lots of great foods in the middle and back of the menu waiting to be discovered that no one ever notices. Its arguably the best restaurant in town, certainly the best Chinese style cuisine and I would say its got the best General Tsos Chicken from here to Portland, except maybe China Faith in Salem, which nobody knows about for some reason, but its a different style of the same dish. Also, you have to try a warm up of pot stickers here and their BBQ pork in Chinese Ketchup and Hot Mustard with sesame seeds. The crab puff won tons are great too. You really get your moneys worth with the family dinners for two or more. But if you are going to order a combination plate, dont miss the House Special at the top of the page--Its really good and will fill up two normal size eaters.

I promise you will not walk out of Chens hungry. The portions are huge and the food is absolutely delicious. Ive eaten there at least a dozen times and have yet to be disappointed. I have also yet to walk out without enough food left over for tomorrows lunch, or more. Service is fine. The staff is friendly and efficient and all seem well ordered and, best of all, pleased to have you as a customer. As someone else mentioned, this site was, at one time, a KFC, which should give you an idea of its moderate size. Seating is almost always immediate. And, they have lunch specials that are so inexpensive its almost embarrassing to order them (but I do). In all, I would say Chens is a "cant miss" choice for lunch or dinner. Please give this friendly restaurant a try. They deserve your patronage.

This place serves amazing combination dinners. The variety they offer is great yet they will happily make substitutions if you ask. Our favorite meal is to order a crab puffs appetizer for $6 and two combo dinner House Secials. Would you believe they include egg flower soup, fried shrimp, BBQ pork, pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork and chicken almond subgum chowmein for me (I substitute it for the pork chow mein that comes with my husbands meal.) for $10 each? Not only do you get all this food but you get good sized servings as well. Oh, I almost forgot. Youll also get the ever important fortune cookies as well. A great way to end your day:)

The food is delicious, all perfectly cooked dishes with colourful vegetables (that arent soggy from overcooking), great menu, beautifully decorated & comfortable restaurant. Most places we go in life these days play loud & obnoxious music & are too noisy, but Chen s makes it enjoyable by keeping the music low. A lovely place to enjoy a meal. The only thing I would like to see changed is the gossip between the servers which is loud enough to hear while dining. I had to take back one star for that, otherwise it would be 5 stars. Still, I love eating at Chens & for take home! And they really appreciate their regulars. Enjoy!!

Lousy experience. Food is very mediocre. I could live with that but did a lunch take out. Didnt want the teeny shrimp eggroll so ordered the veg. one. Came back in 5 minutes to be HARANGUED by the owner holding my wrapped up. pre-paid lunch hostage and telling me it costs her more for the veg eggroll and they could not normally provide it for me. And she wenmt on for 5 minutes! while she held on to my lunch. It apparently never occurred to her she lost a potential regular client, and O would have left after the first minute of her yelling, except I had pre-paid, as required. Yuch!! You can keep Chens.

While theyre food is excellent, and new atmosphere in the new restaurant is divine, the online menu is horrible. Its screenshots of the menu an illegible. I live out of town as many of us do. How can we call in an order if we can blow up the photos and read the damn menu? It should be added as a page to the website. So its crisp and clear with prices. So we can even print a menu for take out. I love these people, I love their food, but the site sucks. Now I have to go physically in, order and wait rather than checking the site and calling it in. Totally misses the point.

Gluten Free Chinese Food at its best!!!!! My Husband has Celiac and so cannot eat gluten. We have always LOVED Chinese food but usually cannot find restaurants that can cook gluten free Chinese food, so we had not eaten at a Chinese restaurant for over 9 years. BUT WE WILL NOW! The waitresses were well trained in gluten free cooking and gave us the confidence that the cooks were also. The food was WONDERFUL and as he had no reaction we are sure it was gluten free. Celiacs: try this place!

Well visited Chinese restaurant. Egg flower soup good. Hot and Sour soup even better. Had items off the lunch menu. Everyone enjoyed their food. Chicken with green beans was wonderful. Curry chicken had a nice deep flavor to it. Will go back again.

Excellent Atmosphere. I went there for Snowball along with my group of 6. It was a KFC until some health stuff came up and they sold or something. It then became Happy Family Dallas. That soon became Chen Family Dish.
