When Ive been to Otani for Hibachi, or with a large group, I have had good service. So, seeing as Wednesdays are half off sushi night I decided to go with my friends tonight. VERY Disappointing. I had called ahead to reserve a table. We arrived slightly late, only a few minutes, but there was no one out front to direct us to seating. Thats not to say that the restaurant was busy and everyone was dealing with other customers, we arrived before peak hours and the restaurant was around half full. We got seated, someone took our drink orders, and then we had to wait. She came back, gave us our drinks (although she mixed up mine with my friends), and let us place our appetizer orders. And then we had to wait. The waitress arrived back with our pickled vegetables... and then we had to wait. And wait. Our order of gyoza came, and we placed our sushi orders. And then... More waiting. Yes, more waiting. AND MORE. WAITING. It took close to an hour before our sushi was delivered. Note, while other people who had ordered after us had sushi arriving at their table. The waitress got my friends order wrong. I had ordered inari, and my friend had ordered IKURA and the waitress had given us two orders of inari. When we pointed this out to the waitress (after she had turned away and had needed to come back) she did not go to prepare ikura, but took my friends plate away from her (she had other sushi to eat on that place). She DID however finally return with the ikura sushi. The sushi was alright, but it was not fabulous, and even for half price, I almost would have preferred to buy it from a super market. We had also ordered some yakitori to share... and there were two measly sticks, one of the sticks was half the size of the other. And then there was more waiting. More. Waiting. We could not for the life of us get any of the waiters to see that we needed attention. We tried to signal them, but no one seemed to pay attention. (I find it very rude to shout, or snap our fingers or anything, plus the noise level had steadily risen.) FINALLY the waitress came by again, she did not ask how we had been, she merely asked if we wanted our check. She was very speedy with collecting our money, the only thing she had been speedy with all night.

I came here for Wed. Night half price sushi 5-7PM and learned that the half price is mainly on the regular rolls/items you see on the menu, not the new or specialty rolls, or eel, or other particular rolls like the Maine Maki. I was bummed out about this, as I enjoyed mainly the specialty rolls and they can be pricey, ranging from upwards of 8 or so dollars, but they are good. I have had the Feng Shui and General Tsos rolls so far and liked them and want to come back to try the other rolls. Sushi chef is a kind, respectful elderly sir, very polite and gives the vibe of an old master who knows exactly what he is doing, w/ accent and broken english:) Service was kinda slow too but I guess because it was busy that night and I was tucked away in the corner of the sushi bar and so I guess I couldnt be seen or heard. Im giving this place another chance since the sushi was great and clearly people aside from the reviewers you see here love it because it was busy and that is a good sign despite the service to me...I guess my lesson is to come early or at off-peak times like 5pm and sit where the servers can see you, or speak up loud? At least do that for Wed. Nights 5-7PM...

My husband adores sushi, I abhor it. Otani is the perfect solution. The restaurant has four dining areas: a regular table and chairs section, a sushi bar, a traditional area (with cushions and low tables instead of chairs), and a hibachi area. The service was friendly and polite.I had hibachi - steak in a black pepper and teriyaki sauce. It came with a choice of mushroom or miso soup, garden salad with a ginger dressing, fried or boiled rice, and a bowl of bean sprouts to go along with the beef. The mushroom soup was simple - but exquisitely flavored. The fried rice was not over greasy or flavored - a perfect combination with the spicy beef dish. The star was the plum wine - dense and sweet. It went perfectly with the rich steak. Hubbys sushi was fresh and clean. Served over sticky rice and a touch of wasabi, it looked almost tasty (except for the raw fish part, but good for those folks who actually do like it). Definitely recommended. I will go back.

The sushi was ok. However the Hibachi was horrible. First of all the staff did no clean the table off from the last meal and we had to ask the chef to do so before cooking. He was going to cook right on top of it otherwise. He did not get the table clean and it had a pungent odor as he cooked the meal. Further more it was unappetizing looking at the mess on an adjacent table that was not in use. The shrimp I got was not fully cooked the cart they brought food out on did not look like it had been cleaned in a while. The stir fried rice was poorly seasoned and cooked as well. When I brought it to their attention that the meal was not ok the staff was argumentative and not taking responsibility for their part. I would not go back there again and would recommend Wasabi in the area or House of Japan in Columbus to get a much better meal with great service.

I love Otanis. It is a step above all other hibachi restaurants and I will tell you why. Otanis has a white sauce instead of your typical "yum yum sauce". Otanis white sauce is amazing with a slight hint of wasabi in it. The white sauce is delicious on shrimp and anything else. I believe that Otanis fried rice is a step up from all other hibachi places. Their salad dressing is also superior. Instead of the ground offensive ginger dressing you get at some place or the over thick mayo dressing you get at the other Otanis is in the middle with a nice creamy creamy ginger dressing that is not to thick and not too gingery. Their shrimp are tremendous. If you have not been to Otanis, you must go. I have been going for 25 years

The food is great here and I come here to see Ray so I CB laugh. However the servers here are horrible and lazy to say the least. They are rude and in my eyes blantally disrespect and discriminate. I came here today and usually I come with my daughter and we get a hibachi table for one. When we came today though they supposedly dont seat for 1dinner. You have to buy twos Who does that??? Im a server and usually leave good tips. I came another time and complained about the portion of food they gave us ns the manager told me what are you mad about its half price Tuesday. So I guess that means you get half the food?? Anywho Ive wiped my hands clean of this place. They only Cater to the white community.

Went there about a year ago and loved it! We only had rolls though. Im vegan and loved the options available. My partner isnt vegan, and he enjoyed his as well. Today we decided to drive the 30 minutes to have another go at the place. We both got entrees. Do not order the Hawaiian Shrimp. Its just mayo on crispy shrimp circled with broccoli on a bed of lettuce. Nothing Hawaiian about it. They said the "sauce" has pineapple in it, but it really is just mayo! Was completely shocked when this came out. They were willing to remake it with the "sauce" on the side. I ended up mixing some of it with soy sauce to make it less heavy. My Buckwheat noodle stir fry was very good though!
