I want to like this place so bad it hurts. Dayton really needs a nice upscale place with a modern menu and Roost appears to deliver. However, after three separate trips there over the last six months I can definitively say that this is not that place. Dont get me wrong - some aspects are wonderful. The drinks are strong and the desserts are wonderful. The entrees however, are downright bad and the chef has no desire to improve the restaurant. Its very clear that the chef uses small portions to cut down on costs rather than deliver a proper culinary experience - scallops are the size of a quarter in most cases and those plates run ~$30. The menu is centered around a few key ingredients - scallops and chorizo play a key role in most entrees. Remaining proteins - pork, chicken, and beef, take a backseat in both preparation and menu presence. Ill dive into the heart of the problem w/ the entrees: outside of the key ingredients list, the food is awful. Even within those two ingredients, its hit or miss at best. As other reviews describe, most food comes out well underseasoned. I made the mistake of ordering the filet the last two trips there, both times medium rare, and both times it came out between medium to medium well. I NEVER send food back, period. I finally decided that after this recent trip to send the steak back, because at $30/plate, they had better be able to cook a proper medium rare or simply not offer it at all. This is where I made the decision never to return. My wife and I were in no way pushy, rude, or ever made a scene. The chef/owner (the short one) told me in no uncertain terms that she knows the steak was cooked properly and would let me choose something else off the menu at full price, but would not recook a steak. I hate to break it to you, but a grey filet has no place being called medium rare. As I said, we are not the people to ever complain about food and we eat out a large amount, but this attitude of superiority is intolerable. Regardless whos correct on their definition of medium rare, it would be simple to recook the steak to a lower temperature so everyone is happy and then part ways. Take this review as you will. I sincerely wanted this place to be wonderful because my wife and I crave a nicer place to frequent in Dayton. This place is most definitely not it if you plan on eating dinner there.

We have eaten here many times, but this past Saturday night the meal was a disaster. Our server was completely overwhelmed. It took a while for him to get to us and even bring the menus. Our meals were not up to par at all! My husbands lasagna verde was burnt to a crisp on the bottom. I ordered the scallops with butternut squash noodles. What I got for thirty bucks was 4 or 5 scallops sitting on a pile of egg noodles with a few shreds of butternut squash. I sent it back as well. I ended up ordering the tomato basil soup which was good and a Caesar salad with shrimp, The shrimp were limp and slimy. We love the independent restaurants and support them 100%, however, I think Roost is so consumed with their expansions and renovations that they are forgetting the reason for their success WAS the food and the focus needs to remain on the food. We may give the restaurant one more chance, but if the food is anything like we had on Saturday, well, that will be the end of that!

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary last month and it was my turn to plan what we do. I decided to have us go to Roost for the first time since the menu online sounded really good. We each ordered drinks, I cant remember which, but they were strong and very good. (Their drink menu had a lot of choices.) When it came to the food, I had the shrimp and grits and my husband ordered the filet. His filet was great. My shrimp and grits were.. eh. Almost too hot for my taste, but the biggest issue with it was all the oil on it. I do want to try it again, I just know that next time Ill order something different.

Food was really nice. Very expensive though. Our service was however terrible. Our waiter, Kaid was very monotone and took 1 hour to write our checks when we were ready to leave for a while. We got there at 6:45 and didnt leave until 10. They handwrite their checks for some reason ( youd think with such expensive prices theyd have a computer system to make things easier ). After the long wait for our checks he came back and we didnt even get our own copy but, he offered to write one for us. I may go back, but would most certainly ask for a different waiter.

Ate there with my father and he was delighted which made it a great night. We had two appetizers, some type of marinated grilled artichoke (my apologies to the kitchen staff and chef that I cant remember all the particulars ) Tha was pretty good. And we had their parmigiano fried potatoes (shoe string french fries tossed in truffle oil and covered in delicious parmesean cheese which we both agreed were excellent and made short work of. Anyway they do a great job. Check it out.

Ive been there several times, and every SINGLE thing Ive tried - from appetizers, to entrees, to everyone elses entrees at our table :-) - has been outstanding. Both Dana and Beth are very courteous and really make you feel welcome. This place is a must try - reservations are definitely recommended during peak hours. A little noisy would be the only complaint Ive heard... but just have another glass of wine, focus on the food, and you wont even notice!

I agree that the food here is amazing. Ive eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. It is the only place in Dayton where you can get NYC caliber food. And as for the steak comments earlier - I had the most perfectly cooked steak Ive ever eaten at Roost. I asked the owner how she did it and it was an amazing process. The entire outside is seared and the medium rare goes all the way to the edge! YUM.

A little too expensive but nice friendly staff. Didnt have to wait very long for someone to greet me. Food doesnt match the prices though. A bit high but again, the friendly service is nice. Need to bring price range down a little. Courteous bar tenders make it nice than being ignored. Not extremely loud either in crowd or music being played. Can actually hear yourself think. Would definitely go back.

Roost // Park City Club catered my wedding of 100+ guests last weekend and they did a phenomenal job! The food was incredible and the service was top notch. We got married in our backyard and Dana and her team absolutely nailed it. They treated our guests like family all night and I cant tell you how many people commented on the quality of the food and service. Thank you for everything.

Went to roost tonight with a party of 11. 45 min wait for drinks. (Ridiculous) server kept blaming our party size for the hold up. Another 45 min wait for apps, salads and so on. Total time was a 3 hour expierence. If your looking for small plates, high prices, and mid grade food this place is for you! Wine selection was excellent however.
