My girlfriend and I checked this place out last weekend. The atmosphere was good, the decor was nice, and the beer selection was decent. However, the service was some of the worst Ive ever experienced. Upon arriving, we sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes before being helped and even then it took them another 15 minutes to make one drink and serve 1 beer, even though the place was essentially empty aside from us. After sitting there and watching the bartender do shot after shot by himself, we decided to leave and had to wait another 15 minutes for our bills. The worst, and creepiest part, was that after we paid and tried to leave the owner/bartender stopped us at the door and basically interrogated us about why we were leaving. He was polite about it, but standing between a customer and the door and not letting them pass is really unprofessional and kind of threatening. We would reccommend against going to this bar.

SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT After reading so many mixed reviews, I am sad to say that I have to agree with the negative. The positive feedback on here must be from the owner themselves. Their beer selection was totally inconsistent and they ran out of the beer I was drinking after I only had two of them. Cozy environment, but a little too small for what they are trying to accomplish. The bartender was absolutely horrible. It took him forever to get us our drinks! He sure was fast at responding to his texts though. I also noticed that there were dogs upstairs in what I am assuming is the same place the food was being prepared. That alone is disgusting enough to make me never want to come back. Isnt that some sort of health code violation? I love the style of the place, but it seems unorganized, disheveled and just poorly executed. :(

I live in Portage Lakes, have lived in San Diego, Santa Monica, and Washington DC and in my opinion, this bar is a hidden gem. I saw the Numbers Band there last summer and had a beer there recently and its not a mega-tap beer bar, but rather a classic, beautifully restored casual bar that has a great music scene on the patio in the summer and a comfortable place to have a drink indoors anytime. Theyre not trying to attract a college crowd by serving $2 PBR-in-cans or others that are looking for obscure offerings from obscure breweries but rather anyone that is looking for a nice place to have a drink and listen to live music sometimes.

I never do reviews ~ but felt the need to say what an absolute blast we had at the Old 97 Cafe last Saturday night. We held our 30th anniversary party there ~ we live in Portland Oregon, so all the planning was done with Debbie (co-owner) long distance. We had never been in the place until 45 minutes before our guests arrived ~ we walked in and it was perfect! Cool bar indoors and outdoors ~ hands down a great venue. Debbie & Gary were such hospitable hosts (owners) ~ and the bartenders, Jason & Kelly were great. I would recommend this spot highly! Well definitely be back... Thanks Old 97 for making the party so excellent!

We are residents of Kenmore so this review is not a slam because it is located in Kenmore. On two occasions my wife and stopped in and could not get waited on. I mean we tryed for a good hour, so we left. The next time i got my drink, but my wife waited for almost an hour. The staff only seemed to wait on thier freinds. We are sorry, because it seems like a place we would to frequent often. I have that is there way of keeping the rifrafe (spelling) away . Too bad...Joyce and go out quite often.

We were introduced to this place about a year ago. It is a bar built into an old house in Kenmore. The parking is in the berm on the street, but is wide enough for bigger cars. They serve food, which is very tasty. The bartenders serve from a limited mix menu, but they have bottled of beer, as well. My main problem with the place is if theyre slower, they will shut down early. It sucks if you drive hours to have dinner and drinks with friends and you only get 1 round in.

Went here last night and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! My expectations were low based on the area of town, but when we walked in, it was so nice and cozy! The drinks were yummy and the bartender personable. The only thing lacking was an official drink and wine menu. Thats why I only gave it four stars. It was nice to see such a fine establishment sprouting up in an area that needs it!

Great music most of the time, a few acts here and there that dont measure up, but overall, a lot of good music is performed at Old 97. Atmosphere is superb, especially the patio w/first rate Bocci court. Service is a little spotty sometimes, menu is limited, but this place still beats any other bar for live music in the Akron area. If I had a bar, it would look like this.

I have heard good things about the Old 97 cafe. Bartenders were quick, offered up special non menu drinks, pleasant and quick. The décor is an older feel, but the woodwork adds a nice finish. A little pricey for the area, however the drinks are proper mix, original and classic options. I didnt see draft beer, but the selection of mixed drinks kept me happy.

Ordered flat bread and it fell apart while eating, drinks are pricey and long wait. Outdoor seating area is nice. There were a lot of reserved tables but we found a spot anyway bc we got there early unknowingly. We were out and about and decided to try it out.

Amazing atmosphere, drinks were well prepared, and the service was perfect. The food was delicious, I would highly recommend stopping and having an evening of it. Oh and the music was there, enjoyable, but not to the point we had to raise our voices.

Went to their 4 course meals on Wednesday and it was absolutely superb! Great food made to order from scratch and super friendly staff in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. New things happening all the time. This is definitely the place to be in Akron!!

Friendly, clean, comfortable, with freshly roasted, ground, and brewed coffee. The snacks (biscotti, scones, cookies, muffins) are tasty. Lunch is available, too. A great place to start the day. The best kind of local coffee house.

Very nice atmosphere, wait and bar staff were attentive and professional. Hard to describe the outdoor space, you have to experience it for yourself. To me it was like you were in someones back yard made up to like a speakeasy.

I dreamed of buying this place for years if I ever won the lottery, however, what I find here is better than anything I had envisioned. We are so grateful to have such a fine establishment in Kenmore (finally). Thank you!
