We had been meaning to pay The Local a visit for some time and finally made our way there on Saturday. Everyone seems to adore this place. Our reservation was mildly honored - we had to wait about fifteen minutes for our table. It was another fifteen minutes before our waiter stopped by for our drink order and another twenty for the drinks to be delivered. When we placed our dinner order we were warned that the kitchen was very slow and we should probably order appetizers as well. We werent starving so the main course seemed appropriate enough for the evening. While waiting for the food to arrive I ordered a glass of red wine to go with my lamb chops. Another fifteen minutes. The chops came and the chops were almost finished when the wine finally made its way to the table. The food was really really good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. As the dinner plates were being cleared my wife asked a back server what was in the little glasses that everyone, except us, was being served. Turns out it was a cold soup that came with the meal except they forgot us. As the back server was explaining the missed soup opportunity a bread server passed by and asked if we received our bread. I was wondering what those two empty plates on our table were for. The bottom like for us was the food was really great and the service was really horrendous. It is unacceptable to have bad food at a restaurant. Bad service is less unacceptable but can really put a damper on an experience that should have better.

No good idea goes unexploited. If you prefer trendy to just good, well prepared food this could be the place for you. Locally sourced food is a fine idea and a number of other Rhinebeck restaurants source as much of their menu locally as possible, and do it without having to shout it from the roof tops. And then they know how to cook it. My wife had the dinner salad which may have been local but certainly wasnt fresh. The dressing not so good. I had the duck, dry, tasteless - Ive had better poultry at Popeyes. For good local food, prepared by chefs serious about their craft and not just trying to cash in on a fad, try Calico or Petit Bistro or Gigis or Market Street.

It was the worst ever experience at a restaurant which is supposed to be highly regarded. Despite having made a dinner reservation, we (a party of 3) were kept waiting at the reception desk (with no receptionist in attendance) and IGNORED by the staff. There was no greeting nor any statement such as "Ill be with you shortly" . After waiting for about 10 minutes, we walked out of the uncivil restaurant and dined elsewhere. Management and staff are in need of an elementary course in good manners It appears that the staff and management are in need of an elementary course on good manners.

Could not have had a better meal and a nicer evening. The quality of the food and service is first rate. We had the steak and the cheese platter to finish. The service was impeccable. The design of the interior is both modern and cozy, we had a great table overlooking the bar area. We arrived a little early and were greeted warmly and told we could have our table. Weve been fortunate to eat at really great restaurants in Europe and here at home, this experience stood up to the best of our meals during our travels.

The Rhinebeck area is blessed with fabulous restaurants in a small area. But The Local is STILL a standout. The ambience, food, cocktails. and service are simply world class. If the chef ONLY knew how to prepare the fried oysters with truffle dressing, he would still be worthy of a James Beard award--quite simply one of the best things Ive ever eaten. The Local is bound to become...well...our local.

One of my favorite things to have when I go out to dinner is Duck. The Local has dish called Duck 3 Ways. With out question the best Duck meal I have ever had. Please give it a try the next time you dine there. You will not be disappointed. Service was fantastic and the restaurant has a nice small quite feel. Really enjoyed the whole experience.

Would certainly come back - Excaped from Omega for a night out and we were very happy with the attentive service and the food. Drinks were a bit pricey and the size of the small plates does vary considerably. Duck confit was suberb and the atmoshpere is very good, much nicer than one would discern from the outside.

Wait staff and owner were incredibly rude. Food was mediocre, overpriced and my family and I will never return. Please dont waste your money or evening on a restaurant with an owner with such incredibly bad business sense. There are lots of other much better options in the area.

The food is amazing, I usually order a few things from the "small plates" menu. The kitchen is open so you can watch the chefs at work, and the imterior is very cozy and interesting.

The food is amazing and a very interesting menu. We had the duck and scallops. Try the ham and cheese grits too. A very nice little place with lots of service.

Excellent food made with local ingredients. Staff were attentive. Oysters were top notch and the cocktail sauce sorbet put them over the edge.

Creative and delicious locally sourced dishes. Plus delightful twists on standard fare. I will go back again and again.

Great food and service. The space is extremely cute inside and out. The tuna tartare app was awesome.
