I can be a picky diner. Case in point, a few days ago I walked a couple miles and passed dozens of restaurants in Chelsea, Hells Kitchen and Midtown looking for a dining spot. Folks, this is Manhattan. Anyone who cant find a place to eat within a few blocks of searching has be a picky eater. I am trying to maintain my successful 25lb weight loss this past year while still enjoying food. Rocking Horse Cafe is on my favorite list for this. My staple here is the Grilled Vegetable Burrito (that comes with black beans and rice,) along with a side of guacamole that complements the complementary chips and savory dip. Food is great. Service is fast. The staff is very friendly. But, most of the all, the other diners of this popular spot are the primary draw. Lots of eye candy for sure, but more importantly, the overheard conversations of this bustling establishment have probably inspired a few drama/comedy TV episodes via the many entertainment and celebrity diners in the area. I have seen my share of movie and TV actors here. Not to name any names, two actors I have seen were in Showtimes "Nurse Jackie" and the Facebook movie, "The Social Network," respectively.

I absolutely love this place! I am extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food and id like to think im an expert because, well....IM MEXICAN! My mom had me spoiled with her godly cooking techniques, but this place makes me feel right at home when I need that taste of home. SERVICE: WARM, INVITING, AND SEXY! The people at Rocking Horse Cafe are like my extended familia. Everyone is gorgeous, attentive to guests, and proud of their food! I absolutely love Alfonso, Sean, & Jasmine! FOOD: Bursting with flavor! Every bite is literally like a fiesta in your mouth! Most Mexican food ive tried in the city was bland and boring. Rocking Horse Cafe is quite the opposite. The complex combination of spices that Chef puts together is amazing and the twist to traditional Mexican food will leave you wanting more! I recommend: Quesadilla de hongo, any ensalada, frozen margarita WITH salt, & the tres leches. BUEN PROVECHO!

Ive eaten here before and the food and service were decent, but on this visit we were shoehorned into a table with barely enough space to breathe. Although Im a big guy, about 61" 240lbs, the women with us might be 100lbs soaking wet. The number of tables they had shoved into that little space was absurd. The hostess made some slightly passive-agressive comment("Im sure youll fit")when we sat down, which flustered the girls. We decided not to stay. When we got up to leave, I told the waiter why, and his response was "Its not my fault", and added under his breath: "m***** f*****." Needless to say I was not too happy about that. We proceeded down the street to Rosa Mexicano where we had a civil, delicious meal, where we were treated with respect by a staff who knows how to handle a busy restaurant.

I will be honest as I for some odd reason never think to go here into their cafe-restaurant but today they had tables set up outside the 8th Avenue Street fair and I decided to give the food a try. I remember hearing their corn tacos are homemade made in house- well they are soft and delicious and no doubt about it homemade- I got the ones filled with smoky chicken and it was absolutely the right choice- I looked at the cookie they were offering and it looked so good I had to have one/ seriously this chocolate chip cookie was the best I have ever had and I think even better then Jacque Torres cookies that he used to sell when he was in chelsea market. I ate outside so I can not say much about the decor but the food was amazing and happy I made the right choice

We knew this place would be good from reviews (decor doesnt give you that impression), but it surpassed our expectations. The salsa they give you was some of the best Ive had, roasted veggies that tasted kinda creamy too, so good!! The cheesy chorizo rice was excellent too, perfect combinations of tastes and flavors. I got the braised short rib which was awesome, the sauce, tenderness of the beef and potatoes were great. My girlfriend got the enchiladas which were also on point. Service was great, our waitress was knowledge and helpful. This place isnt cheap, but it was worth it for the great food. I highly recommend this for high end Mexican food in NYC.

I had a great experience at Rocking Horse Cafe. Its a small space with bright colors and friendly, attentive staff. I had the chicken tacos, a side of refried black beans, and limeade. All the food was fresh and flavorful. I would say this is a kind of "nouveau" Mexican food as opposed to classic Mexican home cooking, so be prepared. My water glass was always full and the food came out quickly; I would return here on my next trip to NYC! I think its worth noting it was a nice, cozy place to eat alone on a Monday night- but I bet it gets very crowded here at other times.

I had a wonderful experience--the server was attentive, accommodating and knowledgeable. I read all of the great reviews and was still impressed. I often take my son to "adult" restaurants as he loves great food too but all too often, were categorized and not given equal treatment but we were welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. The food was really fresh and prepared and served beautifully. A great place for children who love Mexican and good food. Thanks for the wonderful experience! Ive already passed on the name!

Went here for restaurant week so this review only pertains to what was on that menu. - Service: great, very attentive - Food: Guacamole appetizer was great, loved the pickled onion; Gazpacho was also delicious; the ceviche dish was so-so, the fish didnt taste very fresh; I ordered salmon for my main course and it was prepared well but the tastes were a bit contradictory; the banana cheesecake at the end was great. - Overall, the experience and food was good. I might try it again and order a non-fish dish.

went with out of town guests from Texas. Very nice server but noisy and rude diners at bar who actually told us to get up off their seat when they had gone outside and left empty seats. very pricy for mexican food. would not go back as you could have no conversation due to noise level. waiter had trouble getting our order correct too and left off one persons order completely. certainly not up to par with mexican food served in Texas. very overrated except for the drinks and chips.

I tried to go for happy hour, but they dont have one. Regardless I sat at the bar and was faced with a extensive drinks list and piles and piles of homemade oversized tortilla chips. Game on. I ventured back another weeked for brunch and was surprised by how good value the brunch menu was. My dish was great, and of course those massive tortilla chips were flowing so it was a good time. The service was a bit rushed, but it was crazy busy so I dont expect too much.

I love this place. It is such a great spot to get fresh Mexican food, especially the beef. I take people here who want a good meal with out breaking the bank. You really cant go wrong with any of the dishes, though I say if you do beef, make sure you have it, because whatever they do to their beef is so right on. The drinks are also always delish. The bonus is you never know if your waiter is going to bust out into a song and dance. It is in Chelsea honey!
