This is the worst experience Ive ever had. I along with my friend came here for vacation from Austin, we have two people and ordered the hot pot combo for two people. There are three choices for this hot pot combo(beef, lamb and rabbit). The menu writes the hot pot is about $43. The waiter explained it very ambiguously. He just said there are lamb and combination of vegetable and other regular hot pot stuff. We just assumed it is a regular hot pot. Then it turned out this hot pot is far from a regular hot pot. We ordered lamb hot pot and there is no regular raw lamb slices, they just put some pre-cooked meat in the hot pot and only one plate of unfresh vegi as well as shrimp and fish balls and so on. The lamb was small portion and mixed with a certain amount of PORK! !!! we can definitely tell because the pork has rind with it! Ive tried numerous hot pot in my life as a chinese and i can assure you thats pork. We told this to the waiter and the waiter just refused to talk about this. He just kind of stayed silent and dodged this topic. We know its not the waiter who decided to put pork into lamb hot pot and there is no point just putting him into embarrassment.I dont have any mood. And finally when we see the check, it says $50. I asked the waiter why its $50 why the menu said $43, he said only the lamb hot pot is $50 because lamb is more expensive than rabbit and beef. I said then why you didnt put $50 for lamb on the menu or just told us this when we were ordering, he said oh im very sorry that we forgot to tell you this. wtf? Im not a brainless person who just curses about everything on the internet. This Legend Bar & Restaurant did make me sick. Putting pork in the lamb hot pot and trying to trick you with menus and prices, thats not good. I wouldnt suggest anyone to go here, not mention ordering the hot pot combo for two people.

When: Monday night, 9:30 Who: 2 adults Ordered: Hot tea, Cold Sesame noodles, Thai spring rolls, Cumin Lamb w/ scallions, Crispy Chicken w/ Ginger and Peanuts Atmosphere: clean and polished. Decorations & design were appropriate for the cuisine and nothing too kitschy or flamboyant. Food: The noodles came out quickly and were thin and light, but with a nice sesame flavor. Even split btwn 2, there was plenty for each and it worked very nicely as a start to the meal. Spring rolls (2 rolls) came fried, Crispy, and with a nice meaty flavor, alongside (I believe) a plum dipping sauce. Again, a great appetizer: not too rich or abundant. Lamb was requested "not spicy" by my friend and it was honored well. Still quite flavorful, the dish was easily managed by my weak-palatted compatriot, and was exactly what one would expect. It was hot and tasty and a healthy portion. Chicken was spicier than lamb and worked as a complement to the flavor, not as a distraction. My favorite by flavor, it was served with fried chicken, chile peppers, scallions, and Peanuts. As a calorie-conscious individual, I would have enjoyed larger pieces of chicken and there was a lot of extra fried breading and other "crispy bits", but the combo flavor and spice was great. Crispy and couch you are definitely the predominate textures here. Service: prompt, patient, provided a solid alternate dish recommendation, regularly refilled water, and did not rush us even though I believe we stayed past close (10:30). Summary: All told, a very nice experience. I cannot speak to their Sichuan authenticity both from lack of experience and the fact that we really didnt order true Sichuan dishes (why did a spice-ophobe choose a Sichuan restaurant? It remains a mystery). I would like to return and correct my faux-pas!

First of entering the restaurant is like walking into one of Chinese restaurant that got lost and ended up in Chelsea. It has the usual chandelier and cushioned banquet seats, and the chair in need of new one where their cushions are in need of foam. The downstairs is ready for a large group of rowdy Asian karaoke singers to take on Celine Dions rendition of "My Hear Will Go On. As for the food. Lets say the first half of the menu is a confused one...ranging from Vietnamese to Thai food. But the sign on the restaurant says, "Legend Sichuan Chinese Restaurant." You have to flip through 3 pages of other before even getting to that. What they are going for here is some sort of identity crisis trying to cater to the non Asian crowd that wont scare them or send them screaming out the door...Vietnamese fusion like the Banh Cuon with muschroom and lime/garlic sauce or the Bo luc lac..teriyaki marinated with taro chips?!? It was awful. Even if this was fusion it was fusion going wrong. For those who are adventurous beyond the bland and banal first 3 pages of the menu skip to the back and the real eats begin here...Sichuan. This is where it shines is the actual Chinese part. The seafood spicy soup had a kick and was delicious as the Dan Dan noodles, sliced conch in chili sauce was tender and spicy. The table enjoyed the Green pepper chicken and fried beef with cumin are all done amazing well. The Chengdu hot and spicy fish disappeared quickly leaving just an empty plate. So if you want boring food there are plenty of those along 8th Ave and 9th Ave but come here for the Sichuan cuisine because that one thing they have right.

This was the worst Chinese food Ive ever tasted. I say "tasted" because I literally couldnt even eat it after the first taste, which is especially upsetting because their prices are high. I hate calling places to complain, but I couldnt get over wasting the money and still being hungry, so I called them up and told them as politely as I could that I could not eat their food and Id just spent a bunch of money. When they didnt seem to care I told them I was going to give them a bad review online if they didnt somehow make it up, and so here we are! If I didnt know better Id think the food was a joke, or perhaps a conspiracy to make other Chinese restaurants look better. I want to save samples of it just to show people because I dont think anyone would believe me how bad it was. How do you make lo mein taste like unseasoned wet spaghetti? How do you mess up a classic like chicken with broccoli? How do you get away with calling deep fried crisps of something else that got deep fried, "diced chicken"!? I dont know what the story is with this place but dont eat their food!!!

I visited Legend after reading about their steamed chicken with chili sauce. Unfortunately, it was served cold and was not all white meat (I supposed I expected steamed chicken) and the chili sauce was delicious but basically a chili oil. I had a steamed beef with broccoli entree that was good, though half the portion for twice the price of what I pay in Brooklyn. Reservations are available on their website though it requires registration. For my 6pm dinner on a Saturday, reservations werent necessary as the place was very much empty. Staff is super attentive (way too much water) and helpful. Prices are standard for the area. Looks like downstairs would be great for a large dinner and even karaoke. Note: They do offer simple steamed dishes, so its Dukan Diet friendly in that respect, but I wasnt able to get someone to tell me what exactly was in the thicker soy sauce.
