This is the BEST sushi place you will find most anywhere. Worth traveling for. Best if you go on a weekday, because it is packed Fri and Sat. It is comparable to the best Japanese restaurant in the Tri-State area. The owner and sushi chef is actually of Japanese decent and trained by a master in the traditional sense. You will find the menu offerings interesting and you will have to come back to try some of the dishes you cant fit into your stomach in the first sitting. There is always something different to try. For example: The yellow tail tuna collar dish is a dish that you wont find anywhere else and was a fantastic culinary surprise for me (never having had it). As far as quality... the fish is fresh, hand selected by the owner and you will find the offerings are not just the typical easy to find sushi fare. There is a large roll selection. The restaurant is clean, the service is excellent. They have a great Saki selection too. The owner exhibits the highest standards and you can rest assured that everything is fresh and safe to eat. For example: You WILL NOT find the disgusting White Tuna or Escolar, even offered in this restaurant! It is really snake mackerel and Japan has banned the sale of escolar because it can cause fish poisoning. This is the type of high standard you will not find in most sushi places typically run by Koreans. In fact, if White Tuna is offered in a sushi restaurant I know the place is no good... I hope these specifics give you an idea of just how special this Sushi restaurant is.

My family and I went here on recommendation from a family friend to celebrate my sisters birthday, unfortunately it was not a great experience. We found hair in our sashimi deluxe, showed the waiter and he took the plate back apologising for unfortunate incident. Within 5 minutes another waiter brought back out the same plate for sashimi with the hairy fish piece removed. We had wanted to just cancel the plate as weve lost our appetite already. When the waiter came back and we told him he said it was ok, but after a few minutes another woman came out. She was angry and yelled at us asking wheres this hair you say, show me I dont see anything. She kept harassing us about the dish, the waiter seemed as though he wanted to explain the situation to the woman but she didnt want to hear any of it. To find a piece of hair in raw fish is unacceptable, we were fine to pay for the remaining food we ordered but the yelling and harassment was not ok. This was our first experience at Benten, we will not be returning since we were treated so rudely.

My husband and I have been going to Bentens for years following them from Mt. Sinai to Miller Place. Kenny and his family are wonderful. The atmosphere in the new building is very appealing and as usual, the food is outstanding. Friends and family who have gone there with us, find themselves requesting return visits when they are in town. The fish is exceptionally fresh and Kenny creates original dishes that appeal to patrons who dont even like sushi. While the sushi is delicious, their cooked sushi dishes are exquisite, a work of art. Dont pass up the sauteed oysters. This dish would rival the best french restaurant in the city.

Ate here on New Years eve. Miso was delicious and got our hopes up for sushi rolls we order. Then they brought on the Blue Ribbon, Rainbow #2, Red Dragon, and Spider rolls for meal. Lets just say if you like sushi Benten is not a ten, but Benzero. Would not recommend at all for sushi lovers as place is below 2nd rate for taste. We ate a piece of each roll and were deeply disappointed with quality of sushi as fish was not fresh. Picked place based on location being closer, but would take extra drive next time to regular good sushi spot in Suffolk North Shore "Kotobuki" in Hauppage.

Of all of the Japanese restaurants around this area now, this place is one of the oldest... They moved locations several years back from a strip mall further west, but the service and food is unfailingly superb. I have been going to this place with family since I was young, and always enjoy their sushi. Prices are great, ambiance and atmosphere are great, I would personally much prefer the more intimate and calm environment this place provides to some of the louder sushi establishments along 25A. Highly recommended.

found hair in my sashimi deluxe order. We quietly told the waiter who took it back and they just replaced that piece of fish. So we asked to cancel the order because we lost our appetite. Then another older lady came out and asked us very rudely if we found hair and where was it. And were like they replaced it with a new piece. And she didnt apologize for the rudeness and caused a scene in her own restaurant. Wont be visiting this place after being yelled at and finding hair.

The food and service at Benten could not be better. We have eaten at other sushi restaurants, but none can compare. We had eaten at the old location many times and wondered how the new digs would compare. We were not disappointed. If you get a chance to sit at the sushi bar and talk to Ken, just let him know what you like. He will do the rest and remember your choices for the next time around. The fish is always fresh and the presentation terrific. It is our favorite spot!

I recently visited Benten for lunch and had a great experience. We were seated very quickly and our food was super fresh. During lunch we were provided with complimentary bean sprout salad and miso soup. The specialty sushi rolls we inventive and our food was super fresh and delicious. The one criticism I have is that the service was leisurely at best which would have been great for dinner but as I was on my lunch break, I do wish it was a bit speedier.

Have been coming to Benten since I was a small child at the original Mount Sinai location, we moved and they moved but were delighted to find Kenny at the new location (new to us, has to be over 10 years) and the quality and warm welcoming environment is the same as ever. This is not a flashy neon lit techno music "Fusion" combination Hibachi, hot pot etc this is Real Japanese food and it is delicious

If this is good sushi for the area...Im in trouble. The restaurant was filled with Japanese people and yet they had a Mexican making my sushi? Its like they take no pride in what they serve. My Sushi was borderline gross, cheap on the fish and at these prices youd think it would be heaping. VERY disappointed and I hope I can find something better in the area.

The best authentic Japanese cuisine in the area. Unique, creative, delicious sushi and appetizer dishes really sets Bentens apart and crowns them as king of sushi restaurants. Sushi chef and owner, Kenny, makes everyone feel at home and part of his family. Love this place!
