Unfortunately, this place was hugely underwhelming. After reading all the positive reviews and coming here, I hugely question the dependability of Google reviews. The staff is not friendly and 3/4 waiters that I interacted with were rude, short tempered, and had an immense chip on their shoulders. Our waiter expressed no interest in us and never followed up with our table to ensure everything was to our liking or that we were having a pleasant or even positive experience. The place was empty when we were eating there so "being busy with covers" could not serve as an excuse. No creativity in the food, entrees were bland, and the cocktails are all served out of wine glasses and are way too strong. The food was cooked well despite being a touch bland and the appetizers were good. I like the opening fare of olive bread, seasoned olive oil, and the homemade tapenade, but that set the service expectations too high for what followed. I presume people eat here because its one of the only "good" spots in the neighborhood that serves consistently decent food in a moderately fancy setting.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I work at the #1 steakhouse on LI and I am DISGUSTED with the level of customer service from the server and especially the owner. I ordered ribeye special med came out overcooked, I switched to a filet and server asked if I would like same sides that came with the ribeye. Filet came out undercooked had to send back again. Husband was already done eating and server had an attitude the entire time.. never came back to ask about coffee and charged me 7.25 for the sides...owner came to the table and as i was explaining that I had 2 steaks go back and the waiter offered me the same sides never saying anything about the upcharge, his response was yeah I know the story. Did not take the 7.25 off the bill nor did he do anything to to make up the fact that I ate alone and both steaks werent cooked the way I ordered them. I cant even believe someone runs a business like that. Save your money and go somewhere where the staff appreciates their customers and the staff doesnt have a chip on their shoulder. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Last night we went to Marios for dinner and I ordered one of their specials "roasted duck breasted in mushroom sauce". When the order came, it was two dry roasted leg/thigh. I dont like legs and hate dark meat. I didnt want to be rude and attempted to pick at the side order of mashed potatoes and left without eating. The next day I called the restaurant and explained how disappointed I was. The manager insisted that they only serve 1/2 of a duck that includes a breast and that I was lying. What an attitude? This was just feedback so that it doesnt happen again to another customer. However, the restaurant doesnt seem to care about customer feedback and satisfaction. Were also local residents who support the restaurant. Since this is the attitude, word will spread very quickly to go elsewhere. The restaurant could care less about this. What happened to customer appreciation and customer is always right?

Ive lived on Long Island since 1970 and Im embarrassed to say I had never eaten at Marios (which opened in 1982) until Sunday February 12, 2017. I had the prix fixe which has a choice of eight appetizers, eight entrees and four desserts _HOLD ON--for 27.95. The meatballs were the size of baseballs ans were delicious.. I had the veal parmigana and cassata cake which was new to me. I took half home. The bartender made me one of the greatest martinis Ive ever drunk with three big fat olives. The wine by the glass is 9 or 10 and you get 1/3 of a bottle. Wow. Everyone from the host is congenial and wonderful. Im 75 and deaf and I hate ambient noise. Here there is none. They play no music and the walls are padded. This is a ten star restaurant. Jim Mattimore Port Jeferson

I was sorely disappointed by the amount of food I received for the price, maybe they just like to short customers who order for pick-up? But if thats the case then I will not return and support a business that practices such cheap tactics. Ordered the most expensive fish dish, and got three shrimp, a lobster tail shell NO MEAT, a handful of clams and mussels for $33 maybe my expectation was too high..but I doubt that. Just do right by your customers. I wont be coming back for a redemption meal. Taste wise it was clean, not overly salted/seasoned, it had the potential to be a decent and satisfying meal, just not in this price range. I wanted to like this restaurant, but there are much better experiences at other italian restaurants on the Island

Go anywhere else to eat! Waiter and owner were rude and couldnt care less about customer satisfaction. My wife ordered the steak special which came out tough and overcooked. As I sat there eating alone she ordered the filet as a replacement. Filet came out undercooked. We had to send the steak back again. The waiter asked if she wanted it prepared the same way as the first steak. To our surprise they charged us 7.25 extra without telling us there was an extra cost. We both ate alone, steaks went back twice, we got banged out for extra money. Seriously, go somewhere else where you will enjoy your dinner and where your business is appreciated.

This is a fantastic restaurant! My wife and I were in-town for a wedding and dropped by on a Wednesday night shortly before closing. The staff could not be friendlier and more helpful. I had sole that was superbly prepared, and my wife had chicken and eggplant. The appetizers were just right in size, and did not overpower the entrees. The wine list is extensive and reasonable. We came back later in the week and the service, food, and customer-oriented attitude was equally impressive. We have made reservations for Fathers Day tonight. Do not miss this restaurant if you are in the central Long Island area--it is a real jewel.

Where to start? This place is great. For Italian, obviously; but it goes way beyond that. The marinated rib eye is out if this world. The veal is excellent. The service is wonderful. From the beginning when they bring you the bread with EVO and eggplant to the incredible tiramisu. Just go, you wont regret it.

Old style Italian restaurant; have never had bad food here and I really, really love that I can have European food here (things that usually you dont find in restaurants - liver, brain, tripe). Service - impeccable; seasoned staff and overall everything you can get from a family restaurant in Italy.

Mario Restaurant is the very best you can find on Long Island. The food is fabulous, and the staff welcoming and attentive. DO NOT miss the Crab Cocktail appetizer. Its amazing. No better Filet Mignon anywhere. Our go-to place when we want an exceptional dining experience.

Just had lunch at Marios, and it was excellent! The staff is so friendly, they answered every question about the menu expertly, and never let my water cup empty. You can taste the freshness of the food, and everything is very reasonably priced. Cant wait to go back!

Pretty good Italian food at reasonable prices. The service is a little weird because you dont have just one or two waiters waiting on you, there are about 6 different waiters that all have different tasks. Entrees are around $20 each.
