We chose dining here because it was my birthday & I was looking for a new place to try. We were a group of six women. All of us have dined at Harvest on many occasions & altho the service has deteriorated the food is very good & the restaurant inside & out is beautiful.Learning that Harvest also owned the Half Moon & being hopeful that it would be better than the Chart House we decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is quite attractive (as was the Chart House ) & unfortunately the similarity didnt end there. To start with, since the weather was rainy we dined inside. It was uncomfortably dark & difficult to read the menu & actually see what we were eating. (Maybe just as well ). It was also excessively cold tho we did get the waiter to lower the air conditioning. The waiter was enthusiastic & pleasant but then disappeared for a long time & we finally were able to get another waiter (much better ) to help us. I ordered a salad which was good & a seafood dish which contained shrimp, scallops (?), mussels & clams. The mussels & clams were good, the shrimp (all two of them ) were tasteless & not firm. The 2 or 3 scallops of questionable origin were also tasteless. My friends didnt fare much better. For what this dinner cost I can name a dozen restaurants of better quality for the price. On a gorgeous summer evening I would consider coming to sit outdoors & order a salad ,appetizer & a drink but otherwise I cant see dining inside again. As someone once said, "You cant eat atmosphere" & it wasnt even easy to see much of it! Sorry, same ol same ol. A potentially beautiful place with mediocre food. My little neighborhood restaurant Carlos on Tuckahoe Rd. in Yonkers serves consistently better tasting, quality food at half the price. You might stop by for a heads up.

I was here for the first time on a Saturday evening for a friends birthday dinner. I originally had an 8:15pm reservation, but we were a party of 10 all running late, but still wanted to go. I couldnt get anyone on the phone, but their host was amazing and actually called me back at 8:45pm asking if wed still like to attend. Of course we did and was seated without any problem, even when our whole party was not there. DECOR: Half Moon is in an amazing area, the restaraunt as great decor and the view is gorgeous. This is a lovely place to have drinks outside (weather permitting) and to relax with family & friends. STAFF: very accommodating, kind and served my our entire party with a smile. CHEF/FOOD: Unfortunately, food was not that great with myself and a couple of my friends (there was 10 of us). Myself and a friend of mine both ordered the Lobster Mac&Cheese: the portion is abundant (large square bowl), but tasted watered down, had perhaps 3-4 small cubes of lobster, and pounded S&P for a little more flavor. Needless to say, I cant say I took it home (or wanted to). Another friend ordered the Catfish, and she commented how the first was TOO spicey (and she loves spicey food), and after sometime started to feel nauseous where she excused herself to the ladies room (mind you, she has a great appetite, love for food, and a strong stomach). This was definitely a first for her... (and no shes not pregnant). LOL Many of us commented the food is certainly not worth the price on the menu, and the Stew Leonards buffet tastes better. I hope they consider a new chef because this is a great venue in space and view. Just would be a shame to lose out on a place like this.

Id have to agree with other reviewers that youre mostly paying for the view here. Dont get me wrong, the view and the atmosphere is beautiful, but for the price of the food, youd think the quality would be much higher. Heres what we ordered, prices and what we thought... $10-$12 specialty drinks. Delicious! The bartender knows what their doing! $16 chicken wing appetizer. Wait? $16 for maybe 8-10 wings? They were crunch, spicy, but sadly, only average. $28 lobster roll. Again, average. Nothing special about this roll except youre paying market price and the majority of your plate is filled with fries, not lobster. $20 salmon burger. Did someone say gross? Pre-made burger, topped with pineapple (yum,) a whole avocado (WOW, WAY TOO MUCH,) and tzatziki sauce. Wait, is this a Greek burger? It needed tarter sauce and its very sad when the chef doesnt know what pairs well with fish. This was like eating a Greek rock, smothered in avocado. Hey, but if thats what you like... $9 lava cake. We celebrated a birthday, they decorated the plate beautifully, but doesnt the birthday guest usually get some sort of free dessert? Not here! It tasted like a boxed cake (which is about $2 at the grocery store and you get 16 more servings out of it,) we asked for vanilla ice cream as a substitute for the raspberry sorbet and they forgot... we think its because a different waitress took our dessert order, very weird that different people kept visiting our table. The bill was $106, plus tip. We boxed half of the food and ended up throwing it out. Beautiful place to eat, so get a drink and enjoy the view, but spend your money on food somewhere else.

I have been wanting to go to Half Moon for quite some time and the fact that they were participating in Hudson Valley Restaurant Week was the kick in the pants I needed to finally get myself here. I have heard many wonderful things about the restaurant from the food to the view. The view from the restaurant certainly does not disappoint. I hope that I can get myself back here when the weather is better so I can dine outside as well. The ambiance inside the restaurant is also strikingly different from most other establishments. I love how light and airy and open the interior of the restaurant feels. I had looked into Half Moon as a possibility for a wedding venue and now I can see why people book them for weddings. I’m actually a tad bit jealous now of all the brides who have or will get married here. As for the food, it was near perfect. Don’t get me wrong. The dishes were all excellent. However, I felt that there were some tiny things that might have improved the dishes and taken them from a 95% to 100%. For example, I appreciated that the butterscotch pannacotta didn’t overpower me with sweetness but I felt it needed just a bit. It felt like it had no finish to it because it lacked that hint of sweetness. But hey, perfection is hard and Half Moon came damn close. The star of the entire night though was the service. It wasnt just our waiter, who was so friendly and attentive, it was the entire wait staff. I have never experienced this level of service before. Their service really stands out. I would like to thank the Half Moon wait staff for elevating my dining experience.

We visited Half Moon on Sat 11/19 around 8:15pm with my husband & four kids (ranging in ages from 5-15). After reading the online reviews, we were really unsure whether or not to dine here. The reviews ranged from scathing to glowing, and we had no idea what to think. We decided to just go for it, considering the nostalgic factor (my husband & I had our first date at this location when it was Chart House). We were NOT disappointed! We were thankfully able to get a table for six at 8:15pm with a few minute wait. The host staff was approachable and willing to accommodate us. We were given a round table close to the windows. The wait staff was thankfully not allergic to children, and offered to put my 5 year olds drink in a covered paper cup. Service was attentive throughout the meal, though a little spotty when multiple tables were sat at the same time. Menu-wise, the entrees were simple, though I wish there was a little more to offer families, other than the mac & cheese, which was delicious, by the way. That said, the portion size was relative to the prices charged ($35 for prime rib w/ mashed potato & vegetable), and we expected to pay upwards of $25/entree. Dessert was presented beautifully, and the waitstaff acknowledged my daughters birthday. All things considered, $195 for three adults and three kids (w/ drinks) $240 w/ tip, was do-able for our family. We are glad we went to Half Moon with an open-mind (ignoring the spectrum of reviews), an empty stomach and a full wallet :)
