I have been going to this diner since my sister introduced me to it in the 1990s when they had mini juke boxes at the booths so you could play music. This was my initial attraction to the place. I always remembered the juke boxes and the food was good as was the service. It seems that recently I have been having nothing but bad experiences every time I go to this diner. I have been brought my order incomplete or wrong twice, I have ordered to go and found tiny black bugs in my order of broccoli, I have ordered to go and was not given the complete order and had an issue getting the rest of my order that I paid for, I have had some poor service a few times but today (7/11/2015) I had the worst service I have ever had when going out to eat. I got a waitress that was very condescending to me when asked about an item on the menu. She constantly rushed us to put in our order as if she had somewhere better to be. I ordered something for the kids and seconds after I looked at the menu to see what I would order for myself and the waitress says "see your not ready, you need 5 more minutes?". At that moment my wife and I just looked at each other. I told the waitress we needed some more time, but my wife and I pretty much had already decided when we looked at each other that we were going to leave. The waitress passed by the table and informed us that she put the order for the kids in. I let her know that we would take it to go. She took about half an hour to bring us one to go order of grilled chicken and french fries. I was not given the soup or salad that comes with it and had to go back to get it. To make matters worse, some of the grill chicken pieces were not cooked all the way through and you could tell when you bit into it. The waitress name is Shanique, well that is what it says on my receipt. I will probably never eat here again and will definitely not recommend to anyone I know and will also let everyone I do know not to eat here. Not sure why the waitress decided to treat us like that. I suppose she saw a family and thought we were not good tippers and decided to treat us any kind of way. Little does she know I always tip 21 percent of the bill. Too bad.
If I could give this place negative stars, I would to the nth degree. I eat out pretty significantly, and this place by far had the worst food, service, environment, and everything else about the location. To start the waiter barely had a clue of what the menu actually consisted of, having to keep looking at our menus every single time something was ordered; he didnt know what came with what and even how big were the steaks. My family and I got there pretty late as well with the diner being quite empty, but regardless, the waiter took about 30 mins to even take our orders. For the food to come it took even longer, and then it was beyond disgusting!! Literally every single item we ordered was bland, pretty uncooked, and especially cold. We sent back two of the 6 orders because we couldnt even deal with it. We complained respectfully with the water and all he said was whether we wanted him to warm up the food and bring it back! From the shrimp, to the mashed potatoes, to the steaks, the rice, the clams, and ribs, nothing was even close to being good or tasty. Plus, every single item was close to 20 freaking dollars!! This place needs to be condemned, and rebuilt internally asap. If all 6 of us dont get food poisoning in the near future, Ill be astounded. Literally every single aspect of our time was excruciating and worthless. Ugh, what a horrible place to eat. I wouldnt eat there again even if someone else paid me.
I ordered to go once and they didnt bother adding any seasoning to anything I ordered. Once I visited, I noticed the food had some potential but barely. Prices dont make sense, today I asked them to sub something for something equal, they said they couldnt and they charged me $3 more than the $1 it wouldve cost me to create my own omelette. Grits were watery and under cooked and 1/2 the size I was given last week. They were brought back to the kitchen and shortly after an employee who doesnt know how to act at a job with a daddy tattoo at the lower back came out the kitchen and said out loud "wow the Grits taste good today" very sarcastically. When I looked at her and we locked eyes she stared back with a snappy face. Unfortunately, she did cause the waitress to get less of a tip then I wouldve left. Being a restaurant manager myself, I was embarrassed for the business because they had her representing them like any other employee. I can get over the food and have a milkshake but the service is keeping the business out the door. Its a shame because my acquaintances and I are only 1 block away when we are in the area and we wont be going back.

Extremely unprofessional service. This place has gone downhill fast in the last few months. We went for dinner, and when the check came, the waitress told my husband to make sure that he tipped her, and actually stood there watching over his shoulder to make sure he tipped the highest amount! We would have tipped anyway, as we always do, but I have never seen something so tacky and unprofessional! It was shocking. Mind you, this was the only time she paid any attention to us whatsoever. Not once before then did she come over during our meal to ask if we needed anything or to refill our beverages. I was actually embarrassed *for* her due to behavior. This was also after she and another waiter had almost gotten into an argument over who was going to serve our table when we first arrived. And to top it off, the food was mediocre at best, for outrageous prices. I used to enjoy coming to this local restaurant with my family, but the overall atmosphere has changed considerably in the last few months. Very disappointing. I will not be returning.
The infamous royal roach is now gone! Ive been eating here since I was in my mothers belly, LITERALLY, and Ive never had a bad experience til now. New owners, New menus, the drinks are WAAAAYYYYY different now, (they now use fruit puree in the frozen margs which makes them thick and takes away the flavor of the alcohol. Made a complaint to my waiter. Told him I was not pleased with my drink, even told him what the exact problem was and he didnt even do anything about it. Paid almost $20 for a Damn drink that I didnt drink! Smh) they are no longer 24 hours which really sucks. And the food now is not good at all! I tried to be spontaneous and order outside of the typical diner food and I was not pleased at all. Food is very bland, no one at my table was pleased. I was always thrilled to go to the royal roach, as Bronx natives would call it, but now I know for sure I will be not be making as many trips as I once did. No more late night trips after the club. IHOP it is lol. Its sad because the roach is a staple of this community. Smh
