I took a date to see Larry Carlton on 11/4 16 and did so w/o reservations, knowing it would be a packed house. I was shown 3 different places to sit by the a very gracious host ,Bob,and after making my choice , changed my mind to a different spot , which was done sans problem. We were asked about our dinner selection quickly, but not rushed.Since I wasnt too hungry,I decided to have the house salad with blue cheese dressing and shrimp on the top. While I prefer a salad without veggies that have the stems of the leaves hanging out of my mouth.it was fresh and tasty. The dressing was thick and creamy. The shrimp(4) were HUGE and flavorable. So dinner was quite enjoyable and service was also very good.NOW THE SHOW: In a word: EXCEPTIONAL,! Larry Carlton was engaging, and his associates, his son on bass, an absolute quick fingered dynamo on the 5 string, and his boy on drums were also more than great. This was a good and fun show.It was worth the year wait that I endured(I missed him last December) to see him. The opening act John DiPauolo, a jazz and blues and rock guy was also quite enjoyable. This was a good night! There are no bad seats in the house for seeing the acts, and the acoustics were outstanding! I will go again soon.

Ive made my last visit, though. Last night went to see Jeff Daniels, and he was so sick he sounded like Tom Waits by the break. My wife and I left at halftime, pretty much a waste of $66. Daniels had canceled a concert last January. so I guess he felt he had to go through with this one, poor guy. Last time we visited, it was for Leo Kottke, who spent 90 minutes tuning his guitar, playing idle riffs, telling boring stories and singing maybe two actual pieces the entire time. But what particularly gripes me is that the guy who runs the place, probably owns it--Phil--is not a pleasant character, unless youre one of his regular customers (so Im told, at least). As we waited in the small lobby to be seated, I tried to look at some document in a plastic holder on the check-in counter, and Phil came over and pushed it out of my hands with a "none of your business, buddy" look. I explained to him that Id thought maybe it was a sample menu, and I was interested in what they served, if we decided to come back for a show plus dinner. Zero chance of that now.

A number of different areas within the building - main stage room, smaller dining area with stage area, bar, etc. Good variety of local and nationally known performers - many different varieties of music. Seems to be a bit oriented towards folk music, "americana", singer/songwriter - some blues bands, jazz and rock, etc. The food is good but not cheap. The music cover charge is, in my opinion, usually excessive for a club in Dutchess county. The main stage room has a good sound system but can get noisy on crowded nights and, often, I find the sound mixing a bit lacking. It often will cost $ 175 + for 2 people for dinner and a show (if the performer is a "name" act). Id rather go across the street and a couple of blocks away to Quinns to hear live music. Being overpriced is my main reason for giving this place 3 stars. If prices were more reasonable would be 4+ stars. The front dining room music area is a much better deal - no cover and an airier, more open feeling smaller space with better natural acoustics than the main stage room.

Very nice atmosphere. Came here for some classic rock and original compositions performed by singer/ songwriter Christopher Brown in the main dining room. The Crier has a long, rich history of featuring live music on a regular basis. The room is just the right size to really enjoy the music while you dine and has some pretty good acoustics for a restaurant. The Towne Crier also has a seperate performance venue with a larger stage, awsome acoustics and dinner seating for the performances. Everyone in our party had no problem choosing an entree. The menu is varied enough that it should satisfy every appetite in your party from salad to burger to pasta and more. A little bit of everything. There is a seperate cocktail and wine menu with a fairly decent selection. You must try the black bean soup. Its excellent. Pick an evening with live music and you wont regret it. Pick the right performer, like we did, and youll really enjoy yourself and want to come back for more.

First time experience. Music was awesome (Phil and Dave Alvin). Appetizer (shredded brussel sprouts with a bacon seasoning) was very ample and could have been a meal in itself. Cafe burger was a disappointment. Ordered medium well and waited for at least a half an hour for a burger cooked very rare. Ate it anyway as I couldnt bear to wait any longer for a do-over. Service pretty good. Probably just overwhelmed in the kitchen by the size of the crowd and everything hitting at once. Ill go again and order more strategically, or eat first and go just for the show. Very grateful to have a venue like this bringing such quality acts through the area.

The food service is the worst, went to see a show and dinner, waited an hour and a half for a lousy hamburger - was starving hadnt eaten since lunch, when the food came my burger was ice cold and the steak my wife ordered was burnt to a crisp had to send the food back for do-over. LOUSY LOUSY food.. and long wait for it ugh...skip the food dont eat there its a waste..The acts can be good if you like the musicians..eat before you go if you go..you will cry at the town crapper

Went recently on a very busy Christmas show night with the Circus playing. The new place is big! Staff dropped the ball a couple times, but no big deal as I saw how many tables they were covering. Great show and I dont think theres a bad seat in the house. I ordered a pasta with herbs and sausage. It was very good, though I wished there were more sausage in it. The espresso is excellent as it was in the Pawling spot.

Skip the food stay for the music. Last nights food served at the Towne Crier was a disaster. My Lamb over rice was a $19 piece of card board. My wifes veggie burger was tasteless as was the other meals served to our friends. The service was very good and the beers good too, but this is the second straight time we have been disappointed with the food.

good room, I guess. I didnt get a chance to taste the food because it took a half an hour before any of the four spaced out waiters noticed my barren table (no menu, no candle, no apologies). If the drink takes half an hour, than imaging waiting for food. I was still sipping a glass of wine and the first set was already over. Lame.

This is a great place for an evening of great food and music! I saw 2 singer songwriters that I had not heard of and they were great. The service was fantastic as well. I would highly recommend this place for an evening of great entertainment and of course dinner. Dont forget to order the chocolate cake!
