We have been patrons of Crown Palace in Marlboro for 20 years, visiting once every two to three months, and there were definitely stretches where you could find us there weekly. Weve also have a love-hate relationship with them. The 4 stars Im about to give Crown Place is given purely on food alone, because food is what we value the most; there are bad qualities that may cause other Yelpers to give a much lower score. First, the "good". Their food is wonderful; best Cantonese Chinese food in 20-mile radius, hands down. Our favorites include watercress pork tofu soup, steamed tofu stuffed with shrimp, garlic baby vegetable, steamed sole, Mongolian beef (although the last time we ordered it, it was lacking flavor), seafood pan fried noodles, and there are a few being left out of this already long list. Their weekend dim sum is also very good (you can see a few of our favorite dim sum choices in the attached photo). They used to make braised pork belly with preserved vegetables that can almost rival my mothers (a huge compliment; my mom was quite the chef), but unfortunately that had been taken off the menu in the recent years. Many special functions were held here too; my wedding rehearsal dinner took place there, my best friends wedding banquet was there, just to name a couple. The great food alone gives the restaurant 4 stars. Now the "bad" things. They billed one amount and charged a higher one on the credit card. This just happened today, which prompted me to write this belated review. Knowing the weekend dim sum is a mob scene, we called in our order for takeout. The bill out to be $16.05. I wrote a "0" in the tip section, signed it, picked up the food, and went home. When I went online to check my credit card transactions for the weekend, I see a higher charge at $19.26. Curiously, it is exactly 20% higher than what the bill came out to be. I would hate to suspect Crown Palace of credit card fraud, but the amount is just too coincidental. Oh by the way, Im terrible at math, so whenever I tip its always a full dollar amount, to make it easier on my brain. In other words, I did not tip the exact number of pennies to make it a $3.21 tip. Other poor things we have regularly experienced over the years include waiters with poor attitude, waiters forgetting to refill tea, and a couple of times finding gnats in our soup (we think this happens in the summer time when they prop the kitchen back door open). Will we go back? History shows "yes". Crown Palaces food is the most authentic in the area, and ranks very high even when talking about the entire state of NJ. In the past, we had frowned over the poor service and the gnats, but those were the things that we could overlook. Todays credit card peculiarity is very shady and may prompt us to use cash there from now on. These "bad" things might warrant a 1-star rating for most restaurants, but the great food is really propping up my feelings for Crown Palace!

One of my favorite little hidden gems! I am a huge foodie and stumbled upon this place when a friend of mine invited me. Their chinese food is some of the tastiest food around, super authentic and flavorful. No wonder I drive 35 minutes out of my way to get it! It is a nice and quiet place to go and grab some lunch with very large portions and flavor for a little cost. This restraunt gives you a huge bang for your buck for lunch. I have also been here for dinner which picks up slighty but not too crowded for a romantic dinner or family get together. The service is the best quality of this restraunt. You see a lot of the same people there and they are always willing to lend a helping hand, a listening ear and a warm smile to make you feel at home. If you have the chance to visit this place on the weekend you are in luck! Dim Sum is out of this world here! Be sure to get there early as it is usually packed with families from all over. If you get an opportunity to visit here I recommend their pan fried pork dumplings and Concee on weekends dim sum. My favorite chinese restraunt around, great quality for an even greater price. Take a ride and try it out sometime. I promise you will not regret it.

Crown Palace: a clean beautifully landscaped Chinese restaurant in Marlboro, NJ. Food is excellent, so is the service. We ordered off the set menu for a late afternoon lunch. Pro tip: I highly recommend ordering off set menus, if you want more authentic Chinese food and have a big group of people. The set menu was for 8 people and included: Cantonese stir-fried lobster, fried walnuts with mayo shrimp, a whole crispy Cantonese-style chicken with lemon, shiitake mushrooms with lettuce, fried white fish, peppered flank steak with sweet peppers, sweet and sour fried pork chops, tofu and watercress soup, sautéed pea shoots. Dessert: was standard. Fresh orange slices and sweet red bean soup. We stuffed ourselves silly and still had leftovers. The best dishes were the light crispy battered white fish, the crunchy crispy Cantonese style chicken with fresh lemon slices, the tender sautéed pea shoots with a light white sauce and the tender juicy peppered flank steak. The fried walnuts were delicious and the shrimp was acceptable. Outside the restaurant is a man-made waterfall, reflecting pond and mini cottage. The scenery was beautiful and unexpected in Marlboro, NJ.

There are two Crown Places in our area. This review is for the one in Marlboro, which I prefer over the one in Middletown. Its menu for dinners and weekday lunches are typical of Chinese restaurants. We like their Lo mein, Beef chow fun, Sesame chicken, and Braised bean curd. They serve dim sum for lunch on weekends and holidays. We love dim sum and Crown Palace does a very nice job in terms of varieties and quality of food, though the dim sum price had gone up a couple of times recently making it quite pricey for lunch. They do get very busy and if you eat in, there is usually a wait, especially on holidays. So we do takeouts often. Our favorite dim sum dishes are Steamed roast pork buns, Chicken feet, Bean curd skin rolls, Shrimp dumplings, Pan fried turnip cake, Stuffed hot pepper, and Leek dumplings. Service is average. One of the dishes was missed for our most recent takeout. Though this happened infrequently, when it did, it was very inconvenient. When I called about it, I was offered to go back right away to pick up the missed dish or get credit for my next visit. No apology was given.

I have been coming to this upscale Chinese restaurant for years. Everything about this place is wonderful. Its perfect for any occasion; a date, celebration, family dinners, etc ... As soon as you walk in, you feel comfortable by the greeters and you either wait in the comfortable waiting area or are seated immediately. Theres a beautiful fish tank separating the waiting area from the dining area, and the back wall is completely glass, giving a beautiful view to their back courtyard that has a mini gazebo and pond with live fish for decoration. The dining environment and service is about as consistent as you could ask for. The menu is STACKED. Youve got all of your favorite typical Chinese dishes that youd expect, and theyre all dense and very fresh. Whats makes this Chinese restaurant special is that you have excellent service, a beautiful dining environment, and large portioned, fresh dishes. I highly recommend Crown Palace any day of the week. Just make sure to make a reservation on most weekends, or at least call ahead.
