I visited Columbus Cupcakery for the first time after traveling from D.C. to attend my sisters baby shower that day. I told her that I would be willing to pick up her cake and cupcake order at 12PM as that is when the owner stated it would be ready. Upon arrival I was notified by both Kathy and another member of her staff that the cake would not be ready (from the front of the store I could see that the first tier of the two-tier cake was still being worked on). Id just spoken with my sister, before entering the store, and was shocked to find the cake wasnt ready nor had shed been notified as we were a mere two hours away from her event. Kathy asked me when the event would be starting to then only display relief that my event wasnt until two hours later - as if the 12PM pick-up time and her inability to meet said time were not an issue. This was completely unprofessional as the cake and cupcake orders were placed in December for a February baby shower. The Cupcakery had ample time to notify my sister as the shop opened at 11:00AM that morning and I am sure the fact that a two-tier would not be ready within an hour was evident. I was told that the Cupcakery would deliver the cake as they were responsible for running behind and that I could take the cupcakes with me. While in my car I looked in the bag and realized the cupcakes were completely wrong. I returned to the Cupcakery and while on the phone with my sister (to figure out what went wrong) Kathy approaches the counter and says, "the longer I stand here and argue with you, the longer the cake will take". I was extremely shocked to hear this from the store owner herself, while other customers were present. I left my phone number along with the venue address for the cake delivery and requested that it be delivered by 1:30PM. As the point of contact for the delivery, I was not notified when the Cupcakery was on their way nor when they delivered the cake which was after the requested deadline of 1:30PM. While greeting guests and finishing up the last few details, I turned to back of the venue to see the cake was delivered without notification or apology. A number of the colors on the second-tiers design were wrong and not according to the hand-written order and sketch of the cake by Kathy. I am an advocate of supporting local business, however the lack of professionalism and disregard my family and I were shown will force me not to do business here again and recommend others do the same. Kathy continues to counter-argue that she returned $18.00 to my sister as if it was a favor. The $18.00 was returned because my sister reduced the number of cupcakes in her order a week prior. The $18.00 was returned to my sister because that is what was owed to her as an order reduction, NOT as compensation for the Cupcakerys error.

For starters the customer service is absolutely terrible. After numerous phone calls and texts, along with example pictures of the cake being requested, the cake was nothing of the sorts. It was specified it was for a boy but had pink all over it. Was originally charged for 2-3 hours worth of fondant work, however only the front half of the cake was decorated! Looked nothing close to the pictures nor was the color scheme. We were told to "go to a grocery store and get a new cake". Extremely dissatisfied to say in the least. Will never return and I highly suggest if you are looking for something a bit more specific (although ours was only an under the sea theme with blue) dont go here. We got a cake that was so light it almost looked white with pink accents on it. Not to mention the baby BOY on top of the cake had a pink shell on it and wasnt even the right skin color. In response to the owner, you say you assumed gender neutral even tho it was specified and we have the conversations to prove it. You "assumed" color schemes even though 3 different pictures were provided. We were not upset about the increase in charge for fondant, however it was no where near close to what we asked for nor was the entire cake decorated. Poor poor service on your behalf and it was even more dissatisfying how you had the nerve to tell us to go to the grocery store for your OWN mistake. Whoever assumes a pink star on a babies butt for gender neutral shows poor judgment. You had the contact information if you had any further questions along with 3 pictures of examples. You chose to ignore.

I read the reviews prior to ordering from this bakery and decided to ignore the negative ones... I wish I hadnt. My order for 2 dozen specialty cupcakes for a bridal shower was lost. When I arrived to pick up my order, the worker came out of the kitchen coughing several times into her hands and into the air- uncovered- and continued to do so throughout our interaction. She never once washed her hands or coughed into an elbow or any number of things to mitigate being around food. That was enough to turn me off, and Im not squeamish or fussy. She was incredibly unprofessional, venting about how unorganized the store is and frantically giving reasons why my order was lost. At long last the owner came in, found my order taped to a wall (that she personally took earlier in the week) apologized and said it was forgotten. While this was happening a man came in to pick up a cake that was also not ready or not done, Not sure because I stopped listening. Ultimately, I bought the only 2 dozen cupcakes left in the case. They were decent, but several of the guests said they didnt care for them. While its great they dont use artificial ingredients- there are MANY bakeries that dont use hydrogenated oils. Its one thing to make a mistake, its another to be unprofessional and have questionable health standards. I wouldnt recommend this shop and I wont be returning.

I have to say, the owner of this establishment is a combination of ignorant and arrogant. She treats her employees like doormats, yelling at them in front of customers. She responds to any criticism with accusations and can not take responsibility for her own failures. I sat there and listened to her this past Sunday as she cheated a 16yr old employee out of two hours of pay by telling her she only really did about 3 hours of work even if she was there for 5 hours. She does not comply with health department standards in regards to dishwashing, nothing is ever dipped in sanatizing solution. And the icing on the cake is she encourages customers that we should drink this Miracle Mineral Solution and it would cure us ( I have an issue with my heart). After doing my research and finding out that this stuff is chlorine dioxide and is toxic per the fda and used as a bleaching agent for wood pulp, I told her this stuff was dangerous and her response was I had no idea what I was talking about and I shouldnt believe everything I read. Had I drank that stuff I could have died regardless of her claims. I would not recommend going to this place. If you dont like her product in any way she will turn it on you rather than be her fault and makes all kinds of false claims that all of her products are all natural and preservative or chemical free.
