To me, a Mexican place is only as good as its chiles rellenos (Im from Texas, and Mexican on my mothers side). And the chiles rellenos at this place were horrible...not even breaded! Just a slimy roasted pepper with big chunks of chicken inside! Thats another pet peeve of mine...when the meat stuffed into chiles, enchiladas, burritos, etc comes in big chunks...it has no flavor that way. It should be stewed in a good broth or sauce and shredded (like pulled pork). The friend I was with invited me to go there because he loves it, but I was terribly disappointed. I ate a few bites of mine and tried some of my friends food, but I felt like crying and leaving. You who think this place is good...you cant have ever had really good Mexican food!

Awsome food. Ive been here a few times mostly around the lunch hour. The complimentary chips&salsa are fresh and delicious. On the medium + side of heat. Ask for the homemade picante/hot sauce. I love it and its a big plus when you can get something authentic. I had the nachos grade this time around and it was more of a nacho pizza because the corn chips are so big, it was great. If you order a appetizer and meal you are in for alot of food if you are flying solo. I would stick to one dish and the complimentary stuff or else you are walking out with a box. I live closer to Taco of the town. Though they arnt horrible I prefer this place.

This is one of the worst restaurants Ive ever been to. The food was flavorless and poorly prepared. I asked for medium-rare steak, and they served me a completely overdone, charred mess. There was literally nothing redeeming about the meal. Sussex County is full of terrible restaurants. Im not sure whats wrong with this county. Was it built on an ancient Indian burial ground? Have we invited a curse upon ourselves? Im convinced that Rivera Maya Mexican Restaurant is in some sense here to punish us for our sins.

We tried this place tonight for the first time. Upon walking in, I was a little apprehensive. I heard the food was great, but the decor looked a little "mexican takeout chain like". Absolutely give it a try. The service exceptional and the food was excellent. Everything... and I mean everything tasted like it was truly made from scratch.....everything was very, very fresh!!! If you like Mexican food... absolutely...do not pass this one up!!! We will be regulars at Riviera Maya!!! Prices were very fair too!

Weve been to this restaurant about 4 times, and we love it! My husband is a huge fan of Mexican food and he really enjoys it. My sister and I arent really fans of Mexican food and were always so pleased after we eat here. The atmosphere is lively and inviting. The decor is really interesting (mainly the ceiling/lighting). Its not necessarily a quiet place which is good for us since we have a 1 year old. The staff is always friendly. Theyre always packed with people and yet weve never had to wait to be seated.

Worst Mexican restaurant ever! Dont eat here, the food is not fresh and its gross. Had a horrible experience at Rivera Maya in Rockaway and we figured it was because it was new (since we went the 1st week they opened). We heard from friends Branchville was much better, we were extremely disappointed. The only good thing was the chips and salsa and Mariachi. The fish was not cooked correctly and the rice was hard. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

If you live in the NY,NJ,PA Tri-state area Mexican restaurants can be hard to come by. This is a large and cheerful place, painted in bold, flat primary colors and adorned with wall murals that ooze an extravagant romanticism. The food is better than OK and features all the standard, Tex-Mex favorites. The place is easy to spot from the road and theres ample parking, which is a good thing, because it can get pretty crowded at dinner time.

Food is great, salsa is great and chips and salsa are unlimited, combo menu has some awesome prices (3 chimichangas for $15). Really nothing not to like. Only problem is its so good that its always crowded. Id recommend getting there around 5-5:30 if you want to get seated right away. They only take reservations on holidays (if youre going on a holiday make sure you make a reservation unless you dont mind eating at the bar counter).

We have a 3 strikes you out rule. We have been here 3 times now. Each time worse than the last. Tonight alone. Waiter never came back after order, had to go to bar to get drinks and check. DIRTY, Menus where sticky, Chip Basket had OLD Nacho sauce and lettuce stuck to it from someone else. Food at best is BAD FAST FOOD MEXICAN. Save money, Cook Rice-a-roni at home instead. It will taste better and be cleaner.

The worst chicken tortilla soup in my life, in the mens restroom there is no toilet,so if u need to make #2 what u should do? I ordered 3 dishes and the 3 were terrible, the chef (If there is one) is blind or have no sense of taste. Disappointed, the staff is the only thing that is good there ,but u can not eat them! Is very cheap but what can u ask for that kind of food,it should be free!!

The salsa had a kick... nice way to start the meal! I thought the chips were perfectly crispy, the meals were a good size for the price, and the service was very good. They smartly sat us at a large corner booth (we had 4 kids, 3 adults) and were kind enough to bring cups with lids ;) I was also impressed with the kid menu-- lots of authentic options! The veggie burritos were the best!

We use to love this place. Not quite the same here since they expanded to Rockaway. Food is still good though, and the best place to eat is at the bar. Three stars for the restaurant because of the parking situation at night. Parking lots are pitch black and there is no sidewalk leading up to the main building. Put some lights around there already.

These folks need to learn how to cook authentic Mexican food. Civiche was sweet and nasty. Rice sucked and beans were not very good. I love living in a state where Mexican food is excellent and I dont like going to other states where it falls short of expectation or is made by someone who does not know how to cook it.

You cant beat the food or the service!!! But the place needs some updating especially the lobby when you walk in. Some of the chairs and table in the dining room have rips and chips; its time to fix them. When the place is crowded it is very loud not a good place for romantic dinner LOL

As a native Californian I have high standards for mexican food. Riviera Maya satisfied my need for a real taco. The house salsa was also really good. I honestly was most impressed by their great service. The dude with the funny haircut was extreamly accommodating.
