I went to La Dolce Vita for Valentines Day and had a horrible experience. The restaurant had a limited Valentines Day menu but when the server came over to take our order, she informed us that they were completely out of steak and that 3 of the other dishes had to be modified. This was only a menu of 8 entrees. Isnt the point of an abridged menu so they dont run out? I ordered a chicken dish with cheese. The cheese was bad. I mean it tasted as if it actually went bad. I salvaged it by removing cheese as best I could. My boyfriend ordered the Seafood Valentino which was supposed to have lobster tail, scallops, and shrimp. When the dish arrives the waitress puts the plate in front of him and then tells him they dont have lobster tail "but they put a lot of extra shrimp." Isnt a server supposed to tell you they are out of something before she brings your plate. He wanted lobster tail, not tiny dirty cracked clams and mussels added to his shrimp and scallops. He said the only thing good about it was his risotto. He paid $31 for risotto as he cracked his teeth on broken shells and sand. (there was no broth for cleaning) Furthermore, not once did a manager make rounds to ease the frustration of many guests, and upon exiting he/she was nowhere to be found. Both parties to the left and right of us ordered Seafood Valentino and were equally as upset. This restaurant was awful. I blame it mostly on management and I will never frequent this establishment again.

Whoever thinks that this is Italian cuisine is either not Italian, has never tasted Italian food made by Italian people, has never been to Italy, has no concept of how italian food should even taste.....Horrible...it is hours later and I am still up from some sort of gastrointestinal indigestion, of which I have never experienced before. We had long wanted to eat at La Dolce Vita, and finally found the chance to on Sunday. The service is very good, our waiter, Paolo, very pleasant, informative, made the experience, at least, pleasing. However, the food was less than pleasing. I am an Italian American, born of Italian immigrants, born and raised in NY, and truthfully never started cooking until I had to, which is when I got married ...to an Italian born and raised man, who also knows how to cook himself....therefore, I had to learn quick...bought cookbooks and started experimenting.and cooking and perfecting...and pleasing my recipients. It doesnt take much to cook Italian, you just have to will it, want it, even for your own taste buds to be pleased at your accomplishments. However, this restaurant takes advantage of the majority of people in NJ who do not cook Italian, and who have never actually experienced true Italian cuisine...from Italy or Italian parents, to actually know the difference...

Lets start by the atmosphere was nice. Service was great. Our server was sweet knowledgeable and on point. Had the fried calamari it was delicious. We got 4 dinners 3 came out cold, when they came back out they were missing the lobster I order surf and turf which wasnt on the menu they said it will be no problem to add a lobster to my filet. Lobster was broiled hard and tasteless. Mashed potatoes were dry and bland. Did i mention they didnt give me a filet? The steak they gave me was a ny strip which i wouldnt mind having but its nkt what i ordered. Steak was tasty but a little over cooked. I asked for medium rare it was cleary almost well done. My husband ordered a seafood risotto it was total mush! When they heated it back up it became over cooked. Very disappointing. My kids got simple pastas which were also over cooked and the vodka sauce was not anything a special. The overall presentation of the food was no better than a burger joint. They have some nerve charging those prices for such basic not so good food. Mothers day dinner flop. Lesson learned. Our waitress was mortified by the complaints I felt so bad for her I didnt even tell her about my steak. I dont think they can handle a mothers day crowd.

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 5 years. My fiance and I have eaten in the restaurant and have ordered take out many times. We ordered take out and the hostess reviewed my order before we hung up the phone 2x. When my fiance went to pick up the food not only was the one of the meals WRONG they forgot our salad. When I called to inform the restaurant that they forgot our food and gave us the wrong meal the hostess was VERY rude and blamed ME! When my fiance had to go all the way back to pick up the food they FORGOT they did not even apologize and insisted it was our fault and our food was right. They did not offer us money back, a gift card or anything. We ordered CHICKEN PENNE VODKA and they gave us penne in vodka sauce with squash, zucchini and beans, I dont know any restaurant that serves penne vodka in that manner, especially one where we have eaten the same meal at before. To top it all off the hostess was sitting at the bar eating and DRINKING WINE instead of trying to take care of their mistake. Perhaps if she hadnt been drinking my order would not have been wrong. We are long time Belmar residents and we WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.

This is the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant before even being served. I went there on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. After placing our order, we waited nearly 45 minutes for a sandwich and a salad. The soda we ordered never came. The waitress was bringing food by yelling out "who had the burger? burger and a veal parm?". They didnt even have table numbers or any sort of order to it. Our food was originally brought to a table that had already eaten, and the waitress put another plate down on our table while she figured out what belonged to who. I went to the Manager to find out if this is typical for their restaurant, and he was horribly rude to me! He said, "Just tell me what table youre at and Ill get yer food." Excuse me? Not the point. I want to know why were waiting for so long. Then, when I looked out and saw that our food had *finally arrived*, he just walked away from me. No apology. No explanation. We decided that the horrible service and rude manager was not worth staying for, and we walked out with our (now cold) food just arriving.

Stopped by for a bite to eat and was blown away by the food and the service. I had never been there before, but my date had. He said I wouldnt be disappointed and he was oh so right. We started with one of the speicals...stuffed artichokes. OH MY GOSH!!! Amazing. Next was an amazing salad with arugula, goat cheese, walnuts and pears, then we shared the rigatoni bolognese. TO DIE FOR!!!!! The Tiramisu was decadent!!!!! Our waiter...Justin, was fantastic. It was his first day and he was the most wonderful young man. He got in our order for artichokes just in time before they ran out and got us the last tiramisu to share. We were so impressed by him that we made sure the owner knew how happy we were. I will definitely be back again, and again, and again.
