I had herd a lot about Black Bear and when I was in Sparks on business I passed a location on N. McCarran Blvd and thought tonight was the night. The decor was very rustic and pleasant. I ordered the Steak and Shrimp and that came with the 2 sides bread and soup. The vegetable soup was very nice indeed and I was really looking forward to the rest of the meal. When delivered to the table all looked fine. I dug into the bean casserole with gusto. I was not disappointed at all, with that the scalloped potatoes came next and that’s when things started to unravel, it was nothing more than someone putting country gravy with some cheese on the spuds and undercooked them. I love good country gravy and I love potatoes, this side missed the mark for me on both parts. Next was the steak and all I will say here is if you like liver you will really enjoy the steak. No real flavor was added, I mean even salt. I will give them a good job on how it was cooked, I asked for Med and that is what I got. The shrimp is the normal for everyone but the best places to eat, overcooked. The flavor was very nice just a little tough. You might ask how can you goof up a slice of garlic bread? Black Bear did it by delivering to to me BURNT. The question remains would I go back......... I think I would like to give them another chance but for breakfast. Im done with the dinner menu. All of this is just the opinion of a guy who has spent way too many days on the road eating mostly mediocre food all across the country. Good luck to you and your travels. DK

I travel extensively and I eat out at a different place every single day how come nobody knows how to cook hash browns properly? Spoiler alert it does not involve a quart of butter. I could tell by looking that they were saturated with butter. I took a forkful and it literally dripped butter back to my plate, Paula Deen would have gagged for Christs sake. Try cooking the potato instead of burning the outside and soaking it in butter... I almost pulled a Gordon Ramsay on you. The service was good, atmosphere was good, everything was good, except whoever was cooking my food. Lazy inattention to detail... and it was not busy either. If you cant cook hash browns properly hang it up

Pleasant place to eat with good service. Food overall is wholesome tasting and cooked right. However, country potatoes were hard (under-cooked), scrambled eggs were bland, and toast was fairly dry...missing butter coverage (sloppy). Their bacon and sausage were VERY tasty and worth the meals (mine & guests) but I think I wanted a little better meals at those prices. Paid dinner prices for each breakfast which was a surprise that I was not expecting. Menu is a mess to read and didnt seem to offer senior selections?

Really scary watching a waitress reach into the container for sundae toppings with her hand and cram them into her mouth over and over-eeuuww! Obviously no teamwork our waitress was the only one helping people in our section while the grazing waitress and her cohorts chatted and ignored customers. It took an hour to get our bill. We wont be back nor will we recommend this place to anyone.

Its a Black Bear. Whats not to love? It was raining and the front corner of the parking lot was a puddle. Rest of parking was just fine (how often does it rain hard in Sparks anyhow?) Staff was very friendly and went along with my lame jokes and humor just fine. You can bet Ill be back here if I am in town.

Potatoes and bread was so hard you couldnt eat them. The eggs were the only thing etible on the whole plate. Very dissapointed in this diner compared to others Ive been to. I love most Black Bear diners. But this one leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Service was the only thing good here I can say.

Recently celebrated an anniversary there. The staff was excellent and also were very kind, complementary, and knowledgeable of the wine we brought. The food was cooked perfectly and portions were generous. A fine dining experience that we have been searching for in the Reno area.

A popular place as far as diners go. I personally am not a fan of the way they prepare and do their hash browns. 3 times there now and they have over cooked the bacon. Overall not a bad place. The wait staff is awesome and makes up for the inexperienced Short order cooks.

Black Bear is a pretty decent place. Some things can be hit-or-miss depending on the location. In Sparks, I was hoping to connect to the Wi-Fi, but to no avail. The food was very good, as was the service. This should actually be a 4.5 star review, but no option exists.

I enjoyed each and every one of my experiences at Black Bear Diner, however, I have been at both locations in Reno/Sparks, and the food is exceeded my expectations at both places. The service at both places are also exceptionally great as well.

Went there for the first time tonight before a movie. Got the Tri-tip sandwich, good size, fresh bread, tender meat, good helping of fries. Came back for dessert after the movie. Their blackberry cobbler was great! Well be back!

It is an all around good experience when you visit here. The service is always solid, the food perfect...seems to always have customers but never over crowded...this is the family spot, kids love it....

This place is delicious, you have to try their biscuits! Their philosophy is to provide a great value, and they do that through huge portions so plan on taking some home with you after your meal.

Food is good. Can be crowded on weekends. When you taste the food and see the portions, you will understand why. Parking can be a bit if a problem. And a bit of a wait for food. But worth it!

Always good friendly service. The wait to get your food is usually longer than most places, but the food is worth it. The decorations and atmosphere make it a fun place for the family.

The service was great, but the cook was having an off day. It didnt make the experience bad because management went above and beyond to rectify the situation would go there again.

Good food, 4/5 stars; nice servers, 3/5 (theyre too busy sometimes and you dont get the attention you need); prices could be more affordable for this area, 2/5 stars.
