Weve heard people raving about this place for quite some time and finally had an excuse to go with some foodie friends who were visiting from out of town! Heres what we ordered and our thoughts: Eggs and Bacon a la carte: My husband kept it pretty simple and seemed very happy. the Bacon must have been good because it was gone in a matter of seconds. And the eggs soon followed. He had plenty of time to sit and watch us eat our plates brimming with food. Side of breakfast potatoes: I cannot for the life of me remember what Joe ordered. I just remember the side of potatoes. I was curious to try them because I read extremely mixed reviews. I understand why many people would be caught off guard because they arent your standard breakfast potatoes. Its not potato hash and their not in cubes. Instead, theyre thick slices of potatoes. And they dont seem to be roasted so much as fried in a pan, because theyre covered with oil. Lastly, the seasoning is quite unique - I couldnt quite put my finger on what they used, but it was along the lines of cumin or coriander or both. I happened to think they are nice, but not life changing. French Toast with Bananas and Nuts - The two long slices of banana seemed to be roasted and maybe almost caramelized. A very decent serving of cashews and pistachios were sprinkled on top. The waited brings a bottle of what I assume in fake maple syrup to the table. I think its fake for two reasons: 1) Most places make a point of telling you if they have real maple syrup and they didnt. 2) They are generous with the amount of "maple syrup" and if its really, most places give you one tiny creamer full and thats it. French Toast with Chocolate Chips and Cinnamon Raisin - Going in, I was very torn between pancakes and french toast. I was leaning towards the french toast, but asked the waiters opinion. He supported the french toast because he said he enjoyed the texture of the french toast for than the pancakes. But Im thinking hes never had really amazing french toast, because this wasnt it. First off, they bread that was used wasnt at all thick and didnt seem to be of very good quality. It looked as if it was a slice of Schnucks generic bread. Second, I dont think the bread had been soaked in the egg very long at all because I had quite a few portions that were as dry as toast. (If you want amazing French Toast in St. Louis, go to Whitebox Eatery.) I talked to some friends who are big Rooster fans and they have always loved their pancakes. Im absolutely willing to give this place a second chance with their pancakes. But I wouldnt get the cinnamon raisin topping again....it was all raisin and no cinnamon.

Roosters (Breakfast) provides many crepe options and a few non crepe items along with coffee, tea, soda, beers, and mixed drinks. Service at the Grand location is much better than the downtown restaurant but weekends can be backed up for 30 - 60 minutes...be prepared. The 3-stars is because of inconsistency. I typically get the same thing these days but from visit to visit you never know what to expect. One visit will find my crepe stuffed with whatever I ordered and the next time it will be as flat as a pancake with a few morsels of food thrown in. This is the norm, not the exception, so its hard to say during your visit if youre going to have a great breakfast or a below average experience. Also, 3-slices of bacon is $3.50 and I wish I had kept the picture of my order on Sunday, they were the saddest and tiniest pieces of bacon imaginable. I wasnt offended because we were both laughing when they brought it out thinking it was a prank or that they had taken one piece and broken it into 3. Unfortunately it wasnt and I didnt say anything as surely the server had to know when the put the plate on my table. I suggest trying Roosters but dont expect to be wowed. Some of my experiences have been good and certainly the staff, while overwhelmed, put on a friendly face and provide quick service.

Rooster on Grand, on of few St. Louis gems where I have never had a bad dining experience nor has anyone I have brought here. Whether it be date night with a very picky eater, a lunch meeting with friends, a business meting or just stopping in to enjoy a nice quiet breakfast by myself, the staff, management, and food is always better and more pleasant than expected. Now, the real meat and potatoes. As I mentioned, never a bad experience, but the food is always well prepared, filling, and wonderfully enjoyed. If a complex pallet is in your life, by all means, try the MO Style German Sausage Crepe. German sausage Missouri Style has a lite sour to it due to the vinegar used in preparation, delicately balanced against the sweet spice of the apples. As you get further into the crepe, and hit the white cheddar which adds the next level of flavor as it completes the trio, prepare to be stirred up again! The gluten free crepe, is one of the best around, if not the only one around. Rooster sauce you say, yes please, get extra. It will add a little spice to the trio and a little bounce in your step as it hits your tongue. The apple cider vinaigrette tops it off or melds the four flavors together. Try one to share in my favorite of flavor experiences. Enjoy!

My family and I had a late brunch here Fathers Day this year. The restaurants overall ambiance is really nice, which is the ONLY reason I gave them a 2 star rating. As for the food and service...not so much. Our server was rather aloof and very inattentive. She took FOREVER to do anything, which we couldnt understand. There were only 2 other tables in the entire restaurant at that time (3 pm). My brother sat for over 10-15 minutes at a time waiting for his coffee to be refilled. Our water was low and she only replenished it after we went through all 3 bottles on the table. Finally, after waiting 30-40 minutes (still dont understand this since the restaurant was practically empty), our food arrives. Out of a party of 6, 3 of ours was cold!!!! How frustrating! After waiting what seemed like an eternity, I was the only one who reluctantly sent theirs back. She finally brings out fresh food 15 minutes later. It was sub par and mediocre at best. The pancakes were "meh," my house potatoes were disappointing, and the vegetarian sausage was downright GROSS! The worst Ive ever tasted! Ill never come here again!!!!!!

Stopped in for Monday brunch at Rooster. There was a 15 minute wait time, but I got in line via the NoWait app and was seated immediately upon arrival. Thats where the prompt service ended. I sat at my table for more than 15 minutes before the waited brought over water. He dropped it off and ran before I could order a drink or food. I was starving at this point and had more than enough time to look over the menu. When he finally did come back, we ordered drinks and food. What do you know, it took another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. In the meantime, a family of five had been seated next to me, ordered their drinks and food, and received their drinks from their much more attentive server. The food itself was good. We went with the slingers for a more hearty brunch food. I would definitely eat it again. However, the service was unacceptably slow. From start to finish we spent more than 2 hours in the restaurant, for a meal that should have taken less than an hour. If you have other plans for your day, Rooster is probably not the place that you want to start.
