Im a food snob. Ordering a tasting menu, going to food and wine expos for fun food snob. So take this with that in mind. The food isnt great. Theres nothing on the plate that sets this place apart from a an OCharleys or Ruby Tuesdays. On some counts Im more disappointed in them than I would be a chain place. They do some things really well. The ceasar salad is always fresh and crisp and never overdressed. The dressing is delicious. The baked potato, good potatoes, deep roasting. Theyre eat the jacket good. The crab cakes are solid, south of good. But its NE MS. Were a lot of miles from good seafood. Solid works. The caper roumalade they put on the crab cakes, thats good, and inventive. Like everyone else, I think the panko cheese sticks are different and good. But the mashed potatoes taste like they were made from flakes and look like they were plated with an ice cream scoop. Ive never gotten a steak here that I thought was up to par. Its grocery store beef, left mostly unseasoned. Its always a little disappointing. The "chicken cordon bleu" is deconstructed. Know what deconstructed chicken cordon bleu is? Chicken with ham and cheese on top. And even then, not necessarily cooked well. And I guess this is the premise of all my criticism-- they get the ideas, but the results are inconsistent. The basis of a cheese stick is that its gooey and crunchy. Theyve dialed those things up to great effect. Ditto crab wontons. But then they miss so badly. The theory is that good beef doesnt need work. It needs salt and pepper and a hot iron. They do that with sub par beef and the effect is lost. Deconstruction is fun and makes food more approachable. But when youre talking about chicken cordon bleu, the whole point is the construction. Its a dish intended to be pompous. The cocktails are generally good, although they too are a little hit and miss. The chocolate martini is worth taking a picture of. A fudge sundae in a glass. So much lighter too, than most versions of that drink. Its a thing you can drink six or seven of. I had grown quite fond of the southern punch, a big boat drink with fruit. I ordered one recently and it was different. I say, "whats different?". They say, "instead of pineapple juice and guava juice, we switched to fruit punch.". Hi-C in a cocktail. Thats the kind of thing they do to you. The berry cobbler is a thing well done. The snickers pie has coffee flavored cream, which is again, different. Its not really good. Its interesting and less disappointing than other things. The cheesecake is good, although I suspect it comes from a box. The decor makes the place. Its gorgeous. Its modern, trendy, makes you feel like youve been someplace special. Someplace hip. The decor is as well executed as any place in Atlanta or New Orleans. Its not Manhattan, Vegas, Miami cool, but its damn cool. Didnt miss a thing. Legitimately big city. The decor is why I keep coming. That and the fairly active bar scene. The service has never been anything less than fantastic. Everything in the front of the house executes really, really well. Its also fairly cheap by fancy restaurant standards. I mean, 4 cocktails, an appetizer, 2 salads, two entrees, and two desserts for an average of about $75. Even in Tupelo, that feels like a bargain. Four courses + drinks for less than $100 feels like stealing. Ultimately, this is probably the reason I go so frequently. And, its a legitimately nice place. I also like the patio. But despite how well the operation runs and how nice it feels, the food needs work. Its not up to the standards that theyve set with regards to everything else. A great deal of this is an attempt to account for taste, but ultimately The Grill isnt a spectacular meal. Its a transaction. Thats always disappointing.

My wife and I ate here for the first time on Oct 15 after coming to Tupelo 1-2 times very fall for years and it was a great decision. She ordered the shrimp and grits and was pleased and I ordered the Pacific Rim Salmon and it was very, very good. Our salads were also excellent. The atmosphere was good and the staff very friendly. It was a very welcoming place. When the floor manager made her rounds and discovered we were first time patrons she provided each of us with a free dessert in an upsized shot glass, for lack of a better description. A special shout out to Mitchel, our server. He did an excellent job, is a recent alumnus of where I graduated and was a genuinely nice guy. Also a shout out to Stacy, the floor manager. She made us feel very welcome, comfortable and treated us as if we were regular customers of the establishment. She is a class act and a very pleasant young lady. This is a place we will definitely go next time we are in Tupelo. It has become our new favorite restaurant here.

I ate at the grill tonight with my wife and two children. In the time we were there, a server dropped a full bottled beer right beside my 4 year old daughter and sprayed beer on her. About 10 minutes after, a different server was clearing the plates from another table and dropped a dish filled with sauce right next to my son. He ended up with someones leftover sauce in his hair and on his plate and fork. It also got on my wifes outfit. Accidents happen, but when all the staff had to say was " wow you guys have a target on you tonight" I was more than a little upset. We payed $100 for our meal, but Ive been treated better at McDonalds. Such a disappointment. Ive waited 5 years untill I was traveling back through Tupelo again to finally visit this place. I cant say I will ever go back. Food was decent though. So I guess there is that.

Dinner with my dad tonight was absolutely fabulous. He had the steak skewers, shoestring fries, and wedge salad. There was plenty to eat and still have take home. I had the NY strip and it was divine. The loaded baked potato was more loaded (to my complete satisfaction) than any Ive gotten anywhere else. We were in town over night and didnt know where to go eat that was near the Hilton Garden Inn, but the smell from the parking lot made me want to look somewhere very close. I think we found it. Id highly recommend anyone else to give this place serious consideration as a wonderful dining option.

Worst shrimp and grits Ive ever had. 1. food came out cold, not even room temp 2. shrimp and grits were absolutely tasteless, no salt pepper cheese or seasoning period 3. bacon was all fat and white in color, no crisp yumminess 4. broth tasted like warm salt water 5. served with a piece of bread so small and mushy sitting on top of watery sauce Quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences Ive had.

Some of the best food ever! We ate lunch here and it was so great, we came back for dinner. Their dishes have that authentic southern quality with a twist to add a little more interest. We thought the prices were very reasonable for the superb quality of food. Our server, Alex was friendly and attentive both times and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
