Racists!!! my name is Cedric Vaughans. I just left from the day by day cafe. I took 2 friends out for breakfast, my bill was 84.50. because I ordered 4 meals to go. A female server served only Me and two friends, but I ordered 4 meals to go. TROUBLE!!!!! I left my wallet at home, leaving a friend behind as collateral and was back to the restaurant to pay my bill before thirty minutes, and the server caused a big scene when I got back, yelled at me in front of all the customers, and kicked me out of the restaurant and said never come back because I did not give her 100.00 as total, to pay for my bill and her tip. she then Lied and said my bill was 89.00 bucks, and I always tip, all my buddies will vouch, so I gave her 5 extra bucks and apologized, me being in the culinary field, I know the importance of a server being tipped. I always tip at least ten bucks for just my bill.... but I ordered a meal with 3 eggs (with garlic and cheese), 4 bacon strips, hash browns, toast, and french toast on the side. I didnt get my french toast, my hash browns had garlic and cheese, and my eggs were plain. also ordered 4 french toast and bacon meals, I only got 3, but i was kicked out by the server and some cook, after I payed the bill! the server complained about her pain and suffering for having to wait for the payment and demanded my 100.00 dollar bill. I told her no, because she only served me and 2 friends and she screwed up my order, and I was the one paying for everything. I was only going to give 90.00 bucks, but she loudly lied yelling at me in front of all the customers, saying my bill was 89.00, and yelling she called the cops on me, so i gave her 5 extra bucks and sincerely apologized. The part that bothered me the most is Im a black man, and the one time I didnt think about being racially profiled, the 2 Caucasian friends I treated to breakfast, only saw was me being racially profiled. Im bummed out because I enjoyed the experience until then, and if the server wouldnt have demanded my 100.00 bill i would have just gave it to her, just to be a blessing to somebody without looking for any credit, Day By Day Cafe Isnt a great way to start your day If your black (with white friends)

My daughter and I went there for breakfast Saturday Jan 30th on our way to watch hockey at the x. We waited at the "please wait to be seated" sign for 8 minutes as 11 staff members went by and not one of them even acknowledged our presence. Finally I stopped one of them and had to beg for service. The food was good but very pricey for breakfast we spent $37 dollars for two with a couple cups of coffee. To top it all off no one thanked us as we left or even acknowledged we were there. There are better places at 1/2 the money close by, next time Ill go there. We deserve better!

I use to like the day by day but the last couple times has been bad food and service. I use to go here all the time for breakfast. The last time. slow service rude waitress. Then did not bring me the right order and when I sent it back she said that is what I ordered. I had to laugh and say to her I think not as I hate eggs benedict and would never order it. She then said what do you want very rudely. I said my check for the coffee. coffee was 2.29 I dropped 2 dollars on the table and walked out. I WONT BE BACK !

I was impressed with the atmosphere. On the day I went the place was a bit busy and chaotic. The line was out the door and no one to greet you or let you know how long the wait was going to be. I didnt have any place else to be, so I didnt mind the wait. The food was good, the waitress was attentive. I will probably eat there again and would certainly recommend my friends to go there is they are ever in the St Paul area.

The food was mediocre and over priced. Unless you are paying your employees a living wage, $10 for yogurt and granola is too much. My companion ordered tofu scramble and it was under cooked and not at all scrambled. Maybe the lunches are better, but the breakfast was not worth the price. Service was as mediocre as the food, slow and inattentive.

Went to Day By Day for Sunday brunch after my wedding. We called about a week or two in advance, and we were able to reserve a private room that accommodated a large group (the room looked like it could seat about 40). Good service, tasty food, and a nice laid back atmosphere. We loved it!

What a place for breakfast and lunch. Without a doubt one of the best breakfast spots in the cities. When the patio is open with terraced fish ponds, it is outstanding! They have a great room in the back with wonderful windows facing the terrace if room is not available outside.

My wife and I had breakfast at Day by day and it was fantastic. The special was an egg bake with ham and sausage topped with hollandaise sauce, hash browns and toast. So much to eat! I had the Steak and Eggs with hashbrowns, such a wonderful place. Lattes are delicious.

One of our favorites for breakfast food in Saint Paul. A "hidden gem" some might say. The back patio is serene, the good is great (for a low cost), and the ideology of the place is respectable (sobriety is key!). Love it!

I have always loved this place. The prices have gone up and the hours have changed which is sad, but the people are great, the service is amazing, just wish I could get food at 4 a.m. like I used to!

Homey, neighborhood-y place with really great breakfast food. The patio has a coi pond and kind of sanctuary nestled in the heart of Saint Paul--fantastic! Staff are excellent here, too.

Food is below average. My hash browns tasted freezer burned. Ish. The service was very good and the decor is cute and kitschy. I wanted badly to like this place. Maybe Ill try again.

Love the Day by Day! Sitting in the room in the back before the sun is up with a warm table light on, drinking a cup of black cup of coffee is a great way to start any day.
