Were from Mankato, MN and have never been to Cave Vin before the evening of Friday, March 04. We only happen to be in the area as the result of a scheduling mistake and decided to use the non-refundable hotel we had mistakenly booked as an opportunity to knock around a part of the twin cities that we typically drive past on our way to downtown Saint Paul. There was nothing about our experience that was less than 5 stars. Since the restaurant opens at 5:00 we decided to call and see if we could get in a little early for a glass of wine. My wife spoke to the owner who graciously said sure, just tell them Ken said it was okay. Marquees (sp) our waiter greeted us immediately when we arrived and asked if we were the people that had called. He seated us and gave us a few minutes to look over the wine menu. There isnt enough room to write all of the positives about this little gem but suffice it to say that the service was warm and welcoming, the food was wonderful plus we had an opportunity to talk to the owner and chef before we left for the evening. As we left we were surprised that we hadnt heard about this place. Great job to all involved, we certainly will be back. The scallops and Lamb were the best Ive ever tasted!

My wife and I had dinner here on Friday, and it was excellent. Reservations for 6:30, and seated immediately. I had the Steak Frites, and my wife had a parmesan crusted chicken breast. The fries were terrific, just the right amount of crispiness. My steak was topped with demi glace, which I prefer to be a bit thicker than what they served, but I suppose thats just a personal preference. My wifes chicken was good, but the veggies were the real standout. She also ordered one of the salads (dont remember which) for a starter, while I started with the steak tartare. Both were good. One thing that floored me was that there was no Bud/Miller/Coors option for beer. That always makes me smile. An adjacent table that asked what was available for a "light" beer was recommended a Stella Artois, which is bland enough for the masses, I suppose. Beer selection was hardly exhaustive, but there were some good options (I had a Leffe; cant get that one where I live - Iowa wont import it).

I almost never give five starts. My seafood stew was as good as any French bouillabaisse or Italian cioppino and I even found clams in the mix which werent advertised on the menu description of mussels, shrimp, calamari, and arctic char. My chocolate gelato was rich and decadent. Marquis, the dining room supervisor, was an awesome conversationalist and attentive server. I most especially enjoyed the subtle background New Age music piped in off the Internet via Pandora. This music invites and intrigues you to slow down and meditate so as to slowly savor each and every bite of the awesome cuisine. The portions are ample but not humungous since again the idea is to slow down and savor instead of chow down mass quantities.

Service is decent and its a cozy little restaurant. Weve been there three times over the last few years and only one time was it really excellent. I know French food is typically rich, but I find the food here way too buttery and rich for my taste. The beef short ribs have great flavor, but I couldnt finish the reasonable-sized portion because of the rich and salty flavor. Not to mention I was dehydrated for the next 12 hours. My wife has gotten the gnocchi a couple of times and, again, flavor is good but its literally drowning in butter. The key lime pie is excellent though. Maybe the best Ive had outside of Florida.

This place has great appetizers and wine list, along with friendly service. If you go on a Monday or Tuesday, wine is priced at 50% of the listed price. The atmosphere is ... family style romantic? A wide open spaced dining area that is softly lit. You may find yourself in close proximity to your neighbors. Prices are great for the food you get. The entres are average, however. I recomend trying several appetizers, and a bottle of wine. I tend to dine early, 6pm, so I havent really had the service issues that some mention in other reviews.

I ordered the scallops and they werent very fresh, especially for the price I paid for them. I only went here because I heard that one of the owners used to own Pane Vino Dolce, which was my favorite restaurant. Too bad it closed! None of my friends were really satisfied with their meals except my boyfriend who ordered a steak. I tasted some of his scalloped potatoes and they were just awesome. And the staff was nice!

One of my favorite restaurants. The atmosphere is convivial, the wine selection is very French, and the menu is excellent. You must eat the mussels. The staff is marvelous as well. My wife and I broke down in front of there restaurant one night, and were welcomed in with a table. We were not even out to go to dinner, but ended up having a wonderful night there anyway.

After driving by Cave Vin on a daily basis, we finally stopped for dinner. Im so glad we did! Since then, weve been three times and every meal has been excellent. Loved the potato-leek soup, mussels, figs wrapped in prosciutto, pistachio-crusted pork, among other things weve tried there. It has a simple, yet warm ambiance. I highly recommend checking it out!

I absolutely love the atmosphere, amazing food, wonderful wine selections, great hospitality, attentive and caring staff! I love the Steak Tatar and Scallops! However, all of their food is spectacular! Additionally, they often contribute to their community, via fundraising events. Please look no further for your next dining experience!

This was our first visit, and without questions will not be our last. The service was impeccable, the appetizer perfectly paired with wine and the food, amazing. I highly suggest this restaurant for a great date night, or night out with friends. You will not be disappointed.

Great place. Doesnt look like much from the street but dinner was excellent. They even printed a menu that said "Happy Anniversary" for us!! The server was very nice, and we loved every bit of our dinner. 5 stars! Make a reservation though; its a small seating area.

My wife had dinner tonight at Cave View. I had the tenderloins which were awesome. We had the calamari for a appetizer which was very good and a very reasonable bottle of red wine. Very nice atmosphere and a great service. We will be coming back. Kevin

My favorite restaurant in the Twin Cities! The mussels and frites and the rack of lamb are to die for! The wine list is excellent and always changing. The ambience, music and wait staff are top notch! Go enjoy - tonight!

This place was great. Cozy atmosphere, a nice staff, and delicious food. the portions are a bit smaller than most Americans are used to but if you get a starter to share first you will be satisfied!

Quiet, under the radar spot with excellent food, service, wines at reasonable prices. Most authentic pommes frites (real French-style fries) in the Cities. Delicious sauces artfully used.
