Experience was interesting at best, we were a party of 15 who had called ahead for priority seating as they do not accept reservations. Our time was 7pm one person from our party arrived 10-15 minutes before and checked in with hostess and was given a pager. Two more of our party arrived at about 7:15, 2 more arrived at 7:20, at about 7:30 a person who never identified himself ( we later asked another staff person found out he was manager Eric) comes over and asked for the person who had called and told her since everyone was not there at 7 he had given our table away. She was never informed when she called that this was a requirement or was the person who gave the first guest the pager given that information. So even at 7 or 7:30 the pager never went off, so how did they know, not everyone was there. We were told we would have to wait until he could find us something else, because he had other people waiting. By this time it was almost 8 pm. After speaking with someone else who apologized for the problem assisted in getting us a table. We were given two servers Nicky, and Denisha which at first were very nice, but Denisha at one point was very abrupt and short with us several people were not familiar with the restaurant and had questions which she gave very short and vague descriptions and acting as if we were an inconvenience because we were asking, she never asked if we wanted appetizers or drinks she was very rude at times. Nicky was accommodating but at times forgetful had to be asked twice for refills of water and soft drinks. We observed staff standing around in groups near the front door and near the kitchen area talking and laughing. while there were tables full of dishes. We finally asked someone to come over and clear some of the dishes off of the table this should not be happening. Understanding that the resturant has only been open for a short time there were plenty of staff walking and standing around to not have this happening. There were some positives to our visit staff person Amanda stopped by our table to ask how everything was and we did express our concerns with the experience and she did apologize for the issues we expressed and explained she would communicate with the staff and management and would hope that we did return to Black Rock again. We never saw Eric again during our 2 1/2hours at the resturant which seemed questionable as we dine out a lot as a group and being a new resturant in the downriver area the manager should come around and check and see how your experience is and if you are having any problems. Our food was great we did have a few problems with a couple of incorrect orders but they were corrected in a timely fashion. And by the end of the evening even though we were not offered dessert or more drinks from the bar we were pretty satisfied. Denisha did make an unnecessary comment about the bills that separating was a problem for them but she would do it. If it was a problem why were we asked at the beginning if we wanted them separate or not and that we would still be charged the 18% gratuity either way. We felt that was an unnessary comment and maybe she needs some more training on how and what should be said to guests.

Hands down the best steak I have ever had and Ive been to a few excellent to star steakhouses around the nation with my previous job. The quality beef here is as good as the five star places and it comes out from the kitchen about the size of a softball. (No exaggerating either. Its huge.) The lava stone experience is brilliant! Who thought of this? You literally cook your own streak the way you like the best in a searing hot lava rock heated for 8 hours to about 700ºf. Pink still showing? Just set it on the stone for a few more seconds. Like it rare? Well it shows up to your table raw so how rare you want it is completely up to you. The server shows you the best way to use the stone and what to expect. It was kinda fun... Our waitress, Victoria is probably the best server we ever had and Ill ask for her every time I visit the Brownstown location. And no, I never met her before now but Ill give credit where credit is due. She was great. Though the restaurant is brand new, youd never know she hasnt been working there for years. Ask for her when you go. The restaurant isnt too fancy so nice street clothes are appropriate for this place. The strawberry and apple side salad is worth the up charge as a side. I dont know how they call it a side salad when it arrives on a full sides plate some might consider entree sized. It has candied pecans and delicious granola sprinkled on top that just explodes with flavor. I get it with the honey mustard dressing which sets the flavors off perfectly. Its totally not your traditional lettuce and tomato variety salad. The pretzel bread appetizers arrive with both nacho cheese and a garlic cream cheese dip that is to-die-for! The pulled pork quesadilla appetizer has enough fall-off-the-fork tender pork to make a full sandwich. Its also delicious with a sweet and mildly Smokey bbq sauce. We also got the French onion soup side dish served in a HUGE crock bowl. Normally side soup shows up in a small cup. This crock might be a solid 2 cups of soup with mountain of melted cheese. Wow. I had to box much of this up for a midnight snack... There was no way to finish all of this at one sitting. Very generous portions. I consider myself lucky to live only a few miles from this place. Half price steaks after 10pm as their summer long promotion and also Tuesdays are ladies night with half priced appetizers with drink specials. I dont drink much but I could easily have an appetizer or two for a quick meal. Photo of the huge 12oz sirloin that showed up to our table. See? I wasnt exaggerating at all. Notice the flat lava stone its served on. Very hot.

My wife and I were so excited to try this new restaurant and it did not disappoint. I gauge the quality of a restaurant by its food (of course) and the level of customer service. The food was amazing. We started off with the Dueling Pretzel and Cheese Fondue. There was a bubbling nacho cheese and garlic cream cheese crock sitting on the signature Black Rock. It was surrounded by hot, buttery pretzel nuggets. This appetizer would be enough for 4, but we managed to finish all of it. The Black Rock keeps the cheeses hot and bubbly while youre eating it. My wife decided to go with the Blue Cheese Romaine Wedge while I chose their Signature Black Rock Center-Cut Sirloin steak. The salad was everything you want a salad to be. It was a generous portion of fresh, crisp romaine wedges covered in a peppercorn blue cheese dressing with chunks of blue cheese. The bacon added the necessary pork factor that wedge salads are known for. The Signature Black Rock Sirloin came out sizzling on the scorching hot Black Rock. It was accompanied by two of the greatest steak sauces ever. The Casino Butter was herby and luscious while the Rock Sauce has the familiarity of the best gravy youve ever had with a familiar, savory boost. I was able to cook the steak to my exact medium rareness. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was definitely one of the best steaks Ive had. Now, lets talk about dessert. We ordered the Black Rock Volcano. We simply couldnt resist. As we are our meal, we watched many a table get served this mountain of deliciousness topped with a flaming sparkler. We had to try it. Its a dessert for many, but we were able to put a dent into the layers of warm brownie, vanilla ice cream, marshmallow, waffle cone, and chocolate and caramel sauce. No matter how full you are...order this dessert!!! Ill finish where I started with food and customer service. Again, the food was amazing but it was equally rivaled by the quality of service we received. We went on an extremely busy night. But, the staff were unfazed by the crowds and provided a very high-level of customer service to us. Our server, Kelly was attentive, knowledgeable and courteous. Woodhaven has a gem in Black Rock. It is clear that the restaurant is being owned, run and managed by professionals who value great food and quality service. My wife and I will be returning soon for another fabulous meal. Dont take my word for it. Go eat at Black Rock. You wont be sorry.
