I had lived in Detroit most of my life till 2006 and was ashamed, having grown up just 5 miles from Hamtramck on the eastside, that I never knew of this place. BOY am I glad I found it, even now. PURE POLISH HEAVEN! WONDERFUL little "hole in the wall" in the basement of an old hotel, this place just SCREAMS old school Poland! You name it, they have it. Flaczki; City Chicken, Garlic Chicken; Kielbasa; Schnitzels AND a REAL Hungarian Pancake, all present in a way that you would get at home by a mom whos to busy cooking to chat BUT wants to make SURE your enjoying your meal and FULL! JUST LIKE HOME. Be aware, there were VERY busy from the moment we walked in till the moment we left, with standing room only and a few crowded butts in your face by the door BUT that didnt matter ONE BIT. EVERY table near us said HI or shared a thought or a story while we dined and EVERYONE was welcoming. It was if I had know the other patrons surrounding our table ALL MY LIFE! WHEN was the last time youd been to a restaurant like THAT??? I dont recall any dishes over $14.00 and I HIGHLY recommend the "Pick 3" or the Polish plate. And when they offer soup or salad, go for the pickle soup! Ive never had anything like it and frankly thought, WTF? But I tell you that that was some of the most unusual and tasty soup I had EVER had. Im actually pissed at myself for filling up on that with the bread basket cause I ran out stomach room for my pick 3 meal, LOL. Even better is the decor. Made up like the basement of an old school couple that like to entertain, you felt festive and alive as soon as you walked in. The feeling of tradition abounded! Give em a shot folks. TRUST ME, youll see WHY theyre awful close to 5 stars, with more of a "Mom and Pop" type diner feel! They have TRULY earned it this bragging right! And Ill be kicking myself for years to come for having NOT found this place sooner.

Why does this place have such great reviews? We went there on Sunday 8/13/17 and the head waitress acted as if we should be thanking her for allowing us to spend money there. It took half an hour to be seated and another 45 minutes to get our food. Part of the problem is that the waitresses bring out one plate and glass to your table at a time. Why ? Get a platter to hold the plates. The pierogi appeared to be deep fried in motor oil. Pierogis should be boiled or pan fried. Then when the bill came we set our credit card on the table and were told that they only accepted cash or check and then the waitress ran off before I could reply that we had no cash. One waiter mumbled something about there being a sign at the door about not accepting credit cards, and at that point one of the other patrons said "no one can read that its faded." To top it off the bathrooms were alarmingly disgusting. What does anyone see in this place? We will never go back.

I remember this place as a child going all the way back when it was Zosias. Hadnt been here in several years and it seems the food has gone down hill, really plain. Golabki cabbage very thick & hard with dry tasteless meat mix, about a Tblspoon of uninteresting sauce. Ice cream scoop of potatoes with a Tblspoon of gravy. Polish Kielbasa very similar to that by Eckrich out of the package. Pierogi very generic and dry, not delicate and flavorful. Czarnina uninteresting. Meatballs meh, gravy meh. I love the ambiance and I love the tradition of this place... they need to try harder on the food though. We traveled all the way from Commerce Twp and were expecting better, especially after introducing and having talked the place up to our significant others. I hope mgmnt sees this and takes notice, I want to see the tradition carry on :)

Been here many times, food is always good, atmosphere is nice. However, Monday 8/21/17 at around 1pm after we had a funeral service for my aunt in Hamtramck, I suggested we should go eat at Polish village. There was about 14 of us, being a Monday at 1pm, I knew they wouldnt be to busy to for our group. Started off no problem, they were putting tables together for us. Then the waitress Christy, started yelling at us and made a huge scene, everyone in the restaurant was looking at her, while yelling at my cousin(who just lost her mother) "youre are lucky that I am accommodating you people." I have been here many times, I have never been treated in such a manner. I feel that I can never bring anyone there again. We ended up going down the street to main street.. where we ended up spending 300 plus tips.

We visited twice in the past month, it was a great experience. However, we visited a few days ago and have many complaints about the hostess/greeter: she was very rude, we arrived around 4:30 p.m. and put our name on a waiting list. About 6:30 p.m. we still were not seated, asked the greeter what was going on and she actually started yelling at us and was very rude and insulting. Many folks who arrived after we did were seated, and she ignored the folks who were waiting over two hours. Folks began going to the restaurant next door to Polish Village because of this employee, including us, and we were welcomed and treated wonderfully. Word of advise to the owners, you better watch and listen to how your customers are treated.

OK go back to the suburbs some of you negatives... Its a rathskeller its not carabbas... It gets very busy because people love the atmosphere and food you will wait a little longer but it more than worth it... The servers are always pleasant and the food and drinks are always best in michigan as far as polish food goes... Atmosphere is great but I will say yes, it is small and gets packed, thats what gives it the charm. Its like a culture there, Ive been going to this place since I was little, im 23, and I love and hope i see no one there who is worried about a wait. Go in there, chill, listen to some polish music, sip some polish beers relax. Its a date night charming place, not a run in and run out, go to fazolis or something.

This place has it all - amazing food for cheap, cheap prices. The place feels like home. Speaking as a Polish immigrant who grew up eating authentic Polish food, this place is tops. Im not going to say theyre better then moms food, but its pretty darn close. Get the Polish Platter for a little bit of everything. An extra plate of perogi should serve you well, too. Dont forget to wash it down with some of the great Polish beers they serve. To give you an idea how cheap this place is we got 5 entrees, 4 beers, 2 cokes, a wine and 2 desserts for $75! Where can 5 people eat that much for that little? Polish Village, thats where. Love love love this place! Highly recommended.

Dont let the basement entrance fool you, this is not just any ole basement, this has the best food to come out of any basement kitchen in SE MI. Anyone of European heritage growing up in SE MI knows that every mom had a second kitchen in the basement for cooking really big meals, this house just became a restaurant!! The BEST Polish heritage food in town. If you dont know how to pronounce it, just describe it, they will bring it out to you! Yummy! Cant decide? Order the Polish plate and get a bit of everything! Save room for sweets they have good ones as well as the neighborhood bakery is a short walk to the corner!
