If you have the choice between eating a day-old, half- eaten bologna sandwich or going to The River Cafe, choose the bologna sandwich instead. My husband and I went there tonight (July 8, 2017), for some drinks and appetizers. Their sign clearly says that the dining room is open until 11pm, and the bar is open until 1am. This will be pertinent later on in the story. We arrived there at 9:35 pm, and put in our food order for two appetizers at appropriately 9:50 pm. We were told at 10:05 pm that the chef was refusing to make our food, and we were asked if we could just cash out on the drinks instead. And we were told by someone there that we were the second set of customers to be told this. At this point, I asked who was managing. I was told it was Mike. I asked to speak with him. Someone went into the back to get him. They came back out a few minutes later, and said he wasnt available. I was then told by some of the staff there that Mike is the chef, and that he doesnt like working weekends, and so he often refuses to cook food on the weekends, and spends a lot of time berating the waiting staff there. I was told to come back tomorrow to talk to Judy, who is apprently the owner, but who was nowhere in sight tonight. For the record, the entire restaurant was only about 25% filled at the time we came out there, so it wasnt like they were overwhemed with clientele. I normally dont post scathing reviews of places; I am not a petty or vindictive person. But this my first time ever in over fourteen years of living in the Point, where I have had a local establishment refuse to provide an advertised service, simply because their staff doesnt like working weekends. For the record, neither my husband nor I will ever patronize this establishment ever again. P. S. I only gave it a one star rating, because it wouldnt let me give a zero star rating.

Had not been to this restaurant in several years. We were going to meet 2 other couples for an event in Toledo. I suggested this place for dinner ad it was close to our final destination, shame on me. $ 27 for a perch dinner was bad enough but $ 17 dollars for a perch basket was the worst. The fish was only served deep fried. Obviously frozen and pre-battered. It was soggy and not consumable. The salads were wilted and at least 3 to 4 days old. The cream of broccoli soup was like a ball of flour and gritty with sand. It was a terrible dining experience and is on my "never again" list.

Been there two times. First time was horrible. It took about 10 min. To even take our drink order. Then just over an hour to get a salad. I had to walk over to the bar where my waitress was sitting to ask for refills for our table. I asked for my check and a manager after we ate the salad. The worst part is we had three younger kids between us and the other couple we were with. I vowed never to return. But I got talked into it for father in-laws birthday. Service was still bad. Both times the place not that busy.

We visited river cafe on July 9th and will never be returning. We ordered 3 strawberry and spinach salads and the spinach on all 3 were rotten with a thick dark green slime. We were also told that the chef was in a "mood" so she wasnt sure if we could get our soups before the salad. When the waitress told the owner about our salads, all she offered was $2 off of the salads and never bothered to come outside to talk with us. If i could give this zero stars, i would. Horrible experience; wont ever go back.

Went there July 4th 2017 at the open 4 pm . Was the 1st couple to enter that day. At 5:30 PM our food still had not came to the table. Other dinners had already eaten and left when I said something about the wait she freaked out and sent a new worker (2nd) day on the job. Then the cook manger came out said our meals would be free but then turned around and charged us NEVER NEVER NEVER going back there. They will never see me there again.......

I live in point place and have gone here for years. Never impressed. It has gotten worse and worse to the point I stay away. I normally like to promote and help local business, but not with them anymore. Way overpriced, service is OK at best, food is all frozen garbage, the building is old and needs some tlc. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

One of our favorite restaurants. Hubby loves the grilled lake perch -- basket, dinner, etc -- and the seafood stew and especially the clam chowder, which contains far more clams than potatoes. I favor their sandwiches. They have awesome salads and the onion soup is excellent. The decor, river view, and food reminds me of dining on Cape Cod.

I had dinner on Sunday and could not believe they ran out of fish so early in the eveving. This just shows poor management and very little concern for their customers. It may have been my last trip back home and I wanted it to be memorable. Well, I guess it was.

Your standard fish basket is $14, and the prices go up from there. Food is ok, not bad - but not great. Portions are small for the price too. Your paying for the view, and it is just basically a large canal. And most of the tables have little to no shade.
