This place is great for what it is; a hold-over from the great days of General Motors making American motor vehicles just a block away. Just imagine, a tired group of men, coming off the assembly line, hungry for dinner and they swing into Starlight, order up a coney island hot dog, cheeseburger and fries to go. The cooks would slap the thin patties right on the grill in front of you, grab a steamed bun out of the warmer, and in a few minutes you would have yourself a brown paper bag filled with the best American dinner money could buy. Jump ahead 50 years and while the inside of the building has changed considerably, its still the same food with the same attitude. Every time Im in Flint, I stop in at Starlight and order me a Coney Island and Cheeseburger combo. Its fantastically filthy delicious. Knowing the history of this Flint icon makes it just that much better. This is where the American dream started.

Among one of the worst dining experiences that you can have near Flint, that is if you actually wish to enjoy your food. This is a perennial favorite spot of locals who wish to cram themselves into booths, while intoxicated following the closing of nearby bars, but it does not deliver the quality that Flint deserves. There are so many drunks, unsavory characters, and conflicts that they have no less than two security guards on duty at all times. Loud, chaotic, and filthy it quickly headed toward the decline it enjoyed in the late 80s and early 90s which made it one of the worst restaurants in the area. They took a bad thing, made it tolerable, and its well on its way to becoming horrible. Skip it and go to Star Brothers in the Dort Mall. Its the last place for a genuine Flint coney.

We went to the Starlight on Friday, Dec 19th at about midnight after seeing MushroomHead at the Machine Shop... The first thing I noticed was how well lit the place is and that there were armed security sitting right near the entrance, I liked that..!... We had a nice big half circle booth in the corner for our party of six and were waited on by a very nice Waitress, We ordered a variety of chow and it only took about 15 minutes for the order to arrive, even though the place was actually kinda full,, for a Friday night at that hour, I understand why. The food was hot, and delicious..! I ordered a Coney because I had not had one from Michigan in years and years. A very fun end to an excellent evening,,, left a $11 tip from "found money" at the show,,,

have been here multiple times and never had an issue until last night. The waitress was a little rude and just kind of came off as though we were bothering her. She then proceeded to tell the next table she went to "sorry they took forever" motioning to our table. We attempted to share our concerns with the manager (written down on the back of our receipt from one of my party). She seemed to care until the waitress walked over asking what was wrong. The manager immediately became condescending and somewhat rude about the whole issue. As we left the other waitresses were at the counter reading every was written and laughed. It was horrible service and uncomfortable for us as customers on multiple levels. We will not be back thats for sure.

After living in the land of diners for a decade, I have pretty high expectations. This place delivers and then some. Its not a place for fancy cuisine, this is a place where you can park a car on the grill and cheese comes in a #10 can. All the diner staples are just like the chrome promises- fast and reliably good. Went on a Sunday during a rush, the crowd was a mix of people recovering from Saturday night, post-church, and families grabbing a reasonably priced lunch. Oh, yeah, the prices are beyond reasonable, too. Our service was great, but I can imagine it varies a little. Waitresses look like they were all ordered from a catalog of Truck Stop Waitresses, but it goes with the ambience. Will definitely be back.

Ate here for the first time yesterday, it was fantastic. When my husband and I arrived it was busy but we were still waited on for drinks quickly and our order was taken shortly after by our waitress Megan. Food came way faster than I thought it would and was super delicious, I had the Garden Skillet. The service was great from our kind and funny waitress all the way to the cashier. I also want to note that I observed an act of kindness by one of the other waitresses as she reached out her hand to assist an individual who was having a hard time standing up. Simple things like this show the personality and morals of the people who work here. Cant wait to come back!

Not a good experience. I should have got the waitresses name but didnt. My wife and I went to Starlight today (6/5 to eat lunch. Our waitress brought us our waters and menu and said she would b right back to take our order. 2 other tables walked in afterwards and recived more attentive service and both couples recieved there food b4 we even had a chance to order ours. When we finally got out food and finished eating wesat 20 min and didnt recieve our bill yet. We finally just went tothe front counter and had another waitress take our money. The place was not busy and we felt we should have recieved a lot better service.

This was my most favorite part about living and growing up in Flint. Actually come to think about it. Its the only good thing in Flint. The food is amazing and the owner is a sweet tough guy. I love love love this place. Its better then Angelos Gillies or Brians. Dont even waste your money at those garbage dump Diners. Now that I dont live in Flint anymore I never get the best fish and chips but only once a month.the only bad thing about this place is the rude snotty waitresses. But Im not going to give less stars for that.. they wont be around long anyways. No one sticks around anymore.

The food was actually really bad. It was my first time eating there and was excited. I ordered out and my co-worker picked up the food. I had a bacon burger, a "premium" fry and coke. But they forgot my coke, the fries where old and stale, and I could tell the bacon on my hamburger was from this morning. If given a choice between an MRE or another meal from Starlite, Ill take the MRE.

If I could give less than 1 star.... I would. The food had NO seasoning whatsoever. The burgers were small and dry. The chili was somehow chunky and watery at the same time. There were chunks of unseasoned hamburger and beans and the rest was basically watery soup. And it was much too expensive for what we got. Never going back. And my orders were made incorrectly.
