My wife and absolutely love this place, we decided on emerald city for valentines day because ichiban was so busy...it turns out, we were very lucky to go there because ichiban could not have provided us with the quaint evening dinner we enjoyed and i have to say this is not first time i;ve been so pleased with not only the service here at emerald city but also the food. plus they have a healthy option which is all your favorite dishes cooked in simply soy sauce...i did not opt for this option,. i myself got general tsos double happiness delight and my fiance got moo shoo vegetables...we just loved it and we ordered volcano punch which was a crack up because she ordered it not knowing it wass one of those drinks that you share and drink from the same big dish, i was laughing and she was laughing and then came the food. the food was absolute. i know these days standards are not as hi9gh as they once were but now, i expect something more than just your run of the mill. when people think of chinese these days they just want some hot slop. but i really felt like my dish was prepared with care. presentation a plus. i think they adhere to good standards. it was the first time i had gotten dinner and was very pleased.

This restaurant carries some of the best Crab Rangoons (crab cheese) in all of Ann Arbor. In general, all their food is high quality, tastes delicious, and is served in respectable portions. They offer a small lunch buffet, with different dishes put out every day, and nothing is left to get cold in the trays - they constantly monitor the buffet for freshness and put out new portions regularly. The atmosphere is very peaceful and the decorations are intricate (and most of them are for sale at the front counter!). The wait-staff is friendly and helpful.

You know its an excellent Chinese food experience when the place is filled to the brim with Asian grad students! Ypbor Yan (as I know it, and as the sign out front says) has some amazing authentic cuisine. Dumpling soup with the most decadent, plump dumplings I have ever experienced, and the salt miners chicken is another favorite. Dont come here anywhere remotely near closing time, or the staff will rudely turn you away. But I wont hold that against them. The food is excellent!

I have never written a poor review of a restaurant before. I felt the need after my experience tonight. This was one of my favorite restaurants growing up. Tonight the service was awful. The egg drop soup smelled foul and had black spots in it, no drink refills and food quality was disappointing. The bathrooms were not clean with possible bugs.

Really surprised at how good the food was. They had plenty of options for both American style and authentic Chinese dishes and nothing we ordered disappointed. The portion sizes are very generous and you could certainly split an entree between two persons or bring home half to heat up later (and the food did reheat well the next day).

The crab Rangoon is amazing! Thats the bad news, because were not coming back. Do you wanna know how to make certain you dont get a glass of water.... Ask for water. Food tastes like a white person cooked it after hearing the description over a staticky phone and almond chicken comes with peanuts on it.

We visited Lansing, the capital city of Michigan.We are on our way to Cleveland when we decided to stop by in Anne Harbor to eat lunch. We found this restaurant, first impression is so so. Then when we the food was served, it was amazing!!! Dont judge the book by its cover, go try it! Its worth the money

Amazing food. The shrimp came fully intact and thir heads are full of brains. I think thats how the zombie apocalypse will begin: people will realize how tasty shrimp brains are, and then see if human brains taste as good. The mu shoo vegetables were also delightful.

Authentic Chinese food, spicy Szichuan food, nonspicy dishes available and tasty, try the Fish and Lamb pot - great savory pot! try the Chinese menu if you want to deviate from sweet American-Chinese dishes and get a taste of what the Chinese neighbors cook at home~

Sweet & Sour chicken wasnt bad. The fried rice was really bland. My wife had the sesame chicken, which was sub par. The crab rangoons were pretty decent. Was alright overall but not sure if Id go back as I feel there are better options within a close distance.

Insanely good. Great authentic menu. The shredded pork / mushroom / tofu dish was delicious. Same with the fried eggplant, although it was *very* fried, without a lot of eggplant. The kung pao chicken was surprisingly awesome, as well.

This place is kind of intimidating. The food was very good, and there were American style asian food, as well as authentic style. We stopped here on a whim to try something new. It was definitely an interesting experience.

Hello, My friend and I visited Ypbor Yan in Ann Arbor and the old vietnamese chinese server forced us to pay 15% tips. We usually pay 20% but since she forcefully made us to pay 15%, we paid 15% instead of 20%.

The staff was friendly but serving size is the only positive about my experience. I ordered the Orange chicken meal. The rice was bland, the sauce was mediocre and I had more breading than actual protein.

Dont order for delivery. I ordered pork and there was only fat. Spices in spicy chicken are black. hot and sour soup was, i dont know why, gross. If you eat in the restaurant, it will be much better.

Very quick and good food. Great lunch deal. Helpful staff and nice interior with ample parking at the corner of Golfside and Washtenaw. Dont let the exterior put you off.

Best Chinese food in Ann Arbor hands down. But, stay away if youre looking for an American Chinese food experience. Highly recommend the Xiaopanji and Yuyang Tang.

Go for the cumin lamb and you will never be disappointed. Dont get confused by the name; the sign says "Ypbor Yan" and does not mention "Emerald City" anywhere.

Super! Very authentic Sichuan cooking. The Da Pan Ji is absolutely gorgeous. I even took the leftover sauce home and made a spicy noodle soup next day.
