Definitely a local place to go. This restaurant has been in business for over 20 years, perhaps much more. Newly renovated a couple years ago and well worth the visit. Breakfast dinner and lunch served anytime all day that they are open. You can work the overnight shift go there at 7 in the morning and get a full dinner or you can walk in at 2 in the afternoon and get anything off the breakfast menu no problem. Primarily a cash-only business run by a local couple with local Waiters and servers this place is a local landmark and almost everyone in the area knows the name and the menu of this restaurant. Both owners are often seen in the restaurant helping the serving staff and helping things go smoothly. The prices are very reasonable the food is fresh and cooked on premises with local homemade recipes. The male owner of the husband-and-wife team is one of the primary colors and its seeing quite often coming to the table asking how things are and if you can do anything better for the customer. A competitor to this restaurant is immediately next door with a higher price range for breakfasts and meals and far fewer customers as it seems in comparison to be a much less fun place to go. South Street Diner has long been on my and my familys to go list when thinking about an early-morning weekend meal.

This place is quite large. No waiting for a table at 9:45am on Jan.14th. The servers were very pleasant, gracious and attentive. I hate to sound insulting but my Texas French Toast had the oddest flavor and was extremely dry. The first bite, I could barely eat and was afraid to swallow as it was so dry. It became very thick in my mouth. It also tasted as if it was fried on the bacon griddle. At that same moment, a server came to me and asked me if all was okay. I told her it was not and why. I never ask to return food to the kitchen but on this occasion I had to. She exchanged the toast for pancakes but by then I lost my appetite. The coffee was okay. My friend ordered eggs scrambled, sausage and pancakes. She told me the sausage patties were salty and her food was tepid, not hot. She chose not to send it back. I was quite unimpressed and disappointed. On my list of places to not return.

Ok, I’m a little biased because I’ve been a regular here for the last 15 years. In any event, the place is packed for breakfast every weekend for good reasons. The food is excellent, fairly priced and served up fast. Breakfast goes beyond standard diner fare. You can get Eggs Benedict about a half a dozen different ways, steak and eggs or, on occasion, crab cakes. Not dirt cheap, but then again I don’t think anything on the breakfast menu is over 12 bucks. The place is always clean, bright and chock full of locals; a great place to meet your neighbors or catch up on town gossip. Note, they don’t take plastic, but there is an ATM at the credit union across the alley.

This place is delicious and comfortable. The only thing that makes the experience less comfortable is the woman who appears to be the owner is VERY rude to her staff. I go here about once a week and she is always hollering at them about something. One time she even leaned over my plate to say she was "looking for something" after I told her everything was great. Seconds later the waitress comes up to me with a knife apologizing that she forgot about it (I didnt need one). Despite that- the waitresses are great and the place seems very clean. Cash only.

Wonderful food and menu...Well priced. Had the crispy french toast & they made something that wasnt even on the menu for my kid. Will go back again soon! "Only Average breakfast fare, but a stupid place that cares more about $ than their customers....THEY ARE CASH ONLY!... wake up its 2011...not 1929! A total inconvenience for most people/families nowadays!!!" Wake up, Joey, theres a drive-thru ATM right next door. I went in not knowing they were cash or check only and they were very polite and let me run across to the ATM.

Disappointing. Took a long time to get our food and the waitress not the friendliest (which is OK because I wasnt the greatest tipper). The food was mediocre. Other people seated after us but got their food, ate it and left by the time our food arrived. Also, see exactly what the previous posters mean about the owner and her treatment of the staff......Ouch! I used to like South St Diner but not so much anymore. I would go 2 or 3 doors down to Christinas.....much better.

No credit cards accepted, but good food. A little on the pricier side, which is frustrating when combined with the no credit cards thing - usually places dont take cards to keep costs down but it doesnt seem to matter at this place. My kids adore the Mickey pancake though. The decor is an acquired taste but I think it feels homey. Wish the hours were better, they close at like 3PM on the weekends even, not typical diner hours imo.

I was in town 3 days for Ford Training. I ate breakfast here every morning and it was delicious. First day I ordered the banana walnut pancakes, I added a side of hash browns and sausage, it was excellent but way more than I could eat, and I have a healthy appetite. Friendly staff, and not crowded at all. Keep in mind though it was 6:30 am Tuesday-Thursday. Will definitely come back next time Im in the region.

Just got back from lunch with the guys. Their new location is nice inside and we all really enjoyed our food that ranged from breakfast, sandwhich and seafood. We sat right down and the service was very good. The food came in a timely manner and was so tastey we will put this spot on heavy rotation for our weekly lunch destinations. Im eager to sample more from their menu. Give it a try!!!

Edit had to go from 5stars to 3 I just got my bill and damn almost 3 bucks for a small juice. Order water when u come here.

Nice quiet diner with nice decor. Its not a kitschy training car, no greasy spoons, just good food and nice decor. We go here for breakfast before our team meetings. Its light on healthy options.
