Had dinner here last night. My wife and I, were truly disappointed with the food. We picked this restaurant, partly because of the reviews and our love for Mexican food. The restaurant itself, was in a great location and very nice. I ordered a house margarita, which was over priced for a drink which lack on tequila and over powered you with the mix. Next, I thought it was rather interesting that they actually charge for the chips and salsa, every other Mexican restaurant gives for free. And while the Salas was actually good and tasted as it was homemade, the chips where stale and where not homemade. For dinner, we decided to split the chicken enchiladas. We wanted to get to with mole and one with salsa Verde. However, as we were told, they could only put the sauce across all three. When I asked, why they couldnt just run the sauce down instead of across, was told they only do it across. Still befuddled by that logic. So, we ordered the mole and Salsa Verde on the side. Our dinner came out and we both were amazed at how small it was for the money they were asking. Then we both tasted the mole and wondered exactly what we had just tried because it was the farthest thing from mole. Next, we tried the enchiladas and the chicken was moist, but lacked any flavor. Added the Salsa Verde, and again was disappointed by the lack of flavor. The Spanish rice, had less flavor than white rice and the refried beans were from a can. In all, our meal tasted as though it all was bought from Sysco and it was simply put together and reheated. With the exception of the Salsa, nothing was homemade. It was the furthest thing from authentic as you can get and it was extremely expensive. The service was okay, not great. I wish I had more positive to say, but it what it is. Taco Bell would have been a better option.

Agave has possibly the best house margarita on the planet but they have just made a big mistake. They have begun charging for what is, in every Mexican restaurant I know, complementary (chips and salsa!!) The silly little $1.95 they hope to earn from unsuspecting customers will be a costly move. My pork tacos were OK but I like to dress them with a little salsa. Since I refused to submit to.their silly $1.95 I ate them dry. It is akin to charging for ketchup on a hamburger. I will miss you margaritas. Let me know when you stop the silliness and I will return.

Soo I came in here based on these reviews. I was excited to try it. Wasnt very impressed. It was pretty dead and they were over staffed so there were about 5 employees hanging around within 10 feet of me, yet start to finish I was acknowledged 1 time. One time! The $15 margarita was pretty weak, and the pulled chicken in my $18 meal was very dry. Also the portion was small and the rice was sub par for a "Mexican bistro". Long story short, I was excited to try this place, and left disappointed :(

I LOVE Agave. The atmosphere is great, and the place has 3 floors each with its own ambiance - 1st: open seating bar with tables by large open windows in the summer - SO nice. The 2nd floor is beautiful dining room that doesnt get too loud and is very intimate. The 3rd floor is a very swank bar with extra dining tables, its newly done and gorgeous. The food is AMAZING every time. Not your typical mexican food restaurant. This is classy and tasteful and well worth the visit.

Went here on a slow Monday. Nice environment and decore. HORRIBLE food. My sister asked for a side of guaco and they charged her 3.50 and did not even tell us until we got the bill. Had she know that she would not of ordered it. I had a steak salad. Horrible quality lettuce. I sent it back. Service was ok. Nothing great since the place was not full. We wont be back. crappy food and way too much for what it is. Taco bell here we come!

Agave in Newburyport has AWESOME service. I do take out and dine in regularly. The margaritas are the BEST. I have been a long standing customer here. First place I recommend to visitors and where I go with the locals :) It is simply the best. The 3rd floor bar is a hot spot - fun service, fun atmosphere, check it out! If you have not been, GO! It is priced well, too. Definitely fits a tight budget, with the economy where it isI LOVE AGAVE! OLE!

Comfortable atmosphere and friendly service, great tequila selection. Pricey, without much reason to be. Odd Spanglish menu ("sopa black bean de tortilla"). They charge for their bland salsa, though the chips are homemade and good and you can ask for a spicier house-made salsa, which is much better. Food was pretty good, but white washed. Still looking for a good Mexican place in Mass.

We were told to be there by 6:30 for no more than a 30 min wait. We got there at 6 and were given a 1 and 1/2 wait. After 1 hour it was still another hour. After 2 hours it was still another hour. They did not gets my business.

Agave is located in a very nice and vibrant part of town. They have a great list of margaritas and the Nachos were an mountain of outstanding food (definitely big enough to share with 2-3+). Id highly recommend this restaurant!

My husband and I grew up in southern California eating Mexican food. Agave compares to the best Mexican food that we have had in both Mexico and California. What a great find! It is the best we have found in New England.

Best Mexican food we have found in the area. The salsa and fish tacos are outstanding, as are the ritas. When we have a craving for fish tacos, we come here instead of flying to San Diego.

Excellent food. Guacamole is prepared table-side and is delicious. First floor bar has doors opening to sidewalk and there are a few sidewalk tables. A little pricey.

Very open to dietary restrictions and managing food allergies. Great for a date night in one of the smaller rooms or a large group in the main dining areas.
