Horrible food! This was the first time I have been to this restaurant and the last. As we waited for a table, about half an hour, I sat at the bar and had a couple drinks. The bartender was very friendly and so was the hostess. However, as soon as I was seated at my table the waitress spent all but a few seconds with us to get our drink order. The waitress was horrible and very inattentive. I understand that she was busy with other tables however she could get much better tips simply by showing some appreciation to the customers - its all about customer service skills and she clearly did not have any. It almost seemed as though we were a burden to the waitress and an inconvenience to her day. The food was HORRIBLE! I ordered the crab filled ravioli, my friend ordered the fish and chips, and we ordered the potato nachos as an appetizer. The fish was extremely undercooked, slimy, and very sticky - fish and chips should have been a signature dish but this was simply inedible. The portion of fish was also extremely small. The ravioli was tasteless and way overpriced at $18 for about 8 raviolis with very little filling. The appetizer was awful - over half of the potatoes had no topping on them - no cheese and I did not even taste or see the bacon that was supposed to be on top.

Beautifully presented and well prepared dishes with limited flavor, but nothing a little salt and pepper cant fix. Coming from Louisiana I was just expecting more robust flavors, but then again Im probably not that familiar with traditional Irish flavor profiles. Service was sub par. Went with a group of 6 around midday on a Saturday in March - it was not busy. Took forever to get everyones drinks on the table - including water - and she had to be reminded. Our server could not tell us a single thing about the dishes or particular foods we had ordered, and she failed to help us check out quickly knowing we were in a hurry to get back to our conference. I guess it depends on whos working, but dont expect to learn anything new about Irish food or the history of the establishment. Then again, I suppose if you go for the bar youll leave happy.

This was my first time going here it came recommend by a friend we went to the movie theaters across the street and afterwards came her..but this was my first and my last!! The waitress was horrible she was not polite at all and she did not check on our table only but once and when I brought her poor service skills to her attention she was still very rude and seemed as if she didnt care! So I asked for the manager who was no better she was defending the waitress stating she was the top waitress however I beg to differ and instead of explaining your views of her take our experience and try to fix it but she didnt! She kept defending( aunica)..so at this point I just up and left never to return again nor recommend anyone here ..but I cant deny how tasteful the food I had was and the prices were ok as well but the service sucked!!!

I went to this bar twice in one night. I got into Baltimore to meet friends at a conference and arrived early. James Joyce was below my hotel, so I decided to try it out for dinner and a beer solo. I went in and there was a huge wait for both tables and bar space. I decided to skip it and went to a nearby brew pub. At the end of the night I returned to James Joyce with my friends. This time around was a much better experience. The service was surprisingly good and they had a live band playing a mix of traditional and irish-punk music. If I was not drunk, I would have felt a little alone singing along with the traditional songs because most of the crowd had never heard them before. Good Irish pub for a younger crowd. Music was mainly contemporary irish.

Taken on its own merit, James Joyce is awesome! Great food, generally great staff, a well stocked bar and a good tap selection including most of the exported Irish beer market and a nugget or three from the Bmore area all combines to make for a really good experience. We visit every time we spend any time in Baltimore. Now, if we attach a claim of "an authentic Irish pub" (which I dont think they claim), there is an argument based on "what is an authentic Irish pub". So, if you are looking for authentic Irish stuff, Id go anyway since they do employ a fair number of people from Ireland, and you can hear the influence, but dont goo looking for the Wolfe Tones. Check out the Irish breakfast off the brunch menu, and ask for Barrys Tea...with milk and sugar...

Walked to the pub from Fels Point for late lunch/early dinner. Signage on the door indicated the pub was closed for brunch. Since it was around 3:00 p.m., we thought surely brunch was done. We requested a table for four and were told the entire facility was closed for a private party (1st disappointment). We asked the hostess if she could call for a cab since we were on foot and staying a few miles away. She flatly replied, "No," (2nd disappointment) and offered no further assistance -- not even a telephone number for a cab company (3rd disappointment). None of had our Uber account activated and as a result, we walked just short of three miles back to our hotel. Highly doubtful well make another attempt to visit. Icy, cold vibe from staff.

Great location near the harbor, but away from the tourist trap Harborplace and Little Italy areas. We really like this place, as have our out-of-town guests. Been here a few times and the service, food, and drink is consistently good. Food prices are moderate for the area. Food quality is definitely fair for the price, as clearly the pub has targeted booze for their bigger profit margins. Though nowhere near a taprooms offerings, the beer selection offer some range. Lets face it, youre not going to find a cheap and uncrowded dive pub in the upscale Harbor East area. Go here if youre hungry, not intent on pounding down 10 pints, want a lively pub atmosphere, and dont want to go broke paying your tab.

I dont like reviewing Irish pubs as a rule since I worked in one, owned by an Irishman and the bar is really high. Sadly, James Joyce didnt measure all the way up. The good - Great service and spacious dining room. It really has a nice ambiance and the dark wood Guinness taps add an Old World feel. I had the Shepards pie and my friend had a beef sandwich, with some friend pickles to start. All the food was good. Here are my issues - not a lot of authentic feel to the menu. And, again, the food was only OK. Prices are a bit steep but it is the Harbor East. This is the place to go when you want to go to an Irish Bar without eating like the Irish.

barkeeping at its finest. Collin was the man at the helm during our visit while on a tour of downtown baltimore. we were first attracted by the 2 for 1 draft coupon from the water taxi pamphlet. we sat down at the upper bar so we could all sit comfortably and Collin gave us all individualized recommendations of local brews based on our likes. An authentic irishman with the gift of gab and bartending that really put James Joyce over the top. with coupons you worry about subpar service but Collin made this entire experience for us. Will be back when he returns from our home states Bourbon trail in February!
