My wife and I have lunched and had breakfast here several times in the last couple of years and have been very satisfied with our meals and the service. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but the food is good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are quite reasonable. Usually we prefer stopping in for breakfast. Two people can eat a large breakfast for under $20 (including tip). The fare is standard for a small town Iowa café. I would recommend the Kalona Family Restaurant as a fairly inexpensive casual breakfast location in downtown Kalona, Iowa.

Always come to eat here with the family when we are in town. Well we did. The big lady with glasses you have waitressing is very rude, disrespectful and kinda nasty. Dont need to hear her talk badly about the owner and restaurant to the other staff or watch her talk down to not only us but the other guests. If u are looking for a rude staff with okay food and like being talked down too this is the place for you. We will pass from now on. Better places to eat in town without the drama..

We had a seminar scheduled with them. When we arrived the owner was very nasty and said if we did not have 20 people we could have the room we were promised. His wait staff were very embarrassed of the way he treated me. I felt bad for them. We changed our venue at the last minute and will never go back.

Had lunch at this place and was very surprised prices were good and food was great the Kalona Family Restaurant is on my list of great places to eat. I will see if I can get there for dinner one of these nights and see what the dinner menu is like.

The food wasnt great. I expected a fluffy omelet, instead it was brown from cooking way to long, no cheese in it, but what saved the meal was the young waitress. She was so friendly and nice. Because of her well give the place another try

Food was great for the price, waitress seemed to care less about her job. Received more service from the friendly bus boy then her! Flies were everywhere, reminded me of camping. Told the host and said he was doing something about it.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is great and in large portions. You definitely get your bang for your buck. Plus the atmosphere gives you the feeling of being not only home but being back in the past with a old school charm.

The food is good but the hamburgers are factory premade lacking in the Iowa beef flavor . I would like to see fresh hand made burgers for the price. They would probably sell more burgers if they did.
