TL:DR - Under-seasoned food with an over-priced tag. I havent been to Chambers in over 10 years... and it remains exactly the same. Some people dislike change, some people embrace it. Currently, the former is the case for Chambers Smorgasbord. Under seasoned food with an over-priced tag was the experience I received when dining here. Dinner on a Friday night for 2 adults cost almost $30 if you include a tip. I dont mind paying this price for a restaurant I know serves tasty food but this is not the case. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant seemed clean, hence the 2 star rating but the food was so very underwhelming. I had 1.5 plates which consisted of two chicken tenders, a fried drumstick, mashed potatoes, a jalapeno bite, and some potato salad. The chickens texture and breading was quite good, it was tender as well. However, there was no taste. The mashed potatoes were quite salty and had the appearance of instant mashed potatoes. The potato salad was bland, all you could really taste was mayonnaise. In my opinion, this place needs to update its menu and recipes as well as lower its prices for the quality of food it serves. This restaurant caters to a very select age group of people. If you were alive when Jimmy Carter was President then this place is for you. If you have a palate that has a taste for more than just salt I highly recommend you avoid eating here.

I finally got around to going to Chambers Smorgasbord. I was always a little apprehensive about going in that place because I tend to look at an "All You Can Eat" buffet as a personal challenge. Haha. Now that Ive gone there, Im really sorry that I waited so long. I went with a friend of mine that grew up in Owen County, so she knew a lot of people in Spencer. I kinda felt like I was at a great, big family get together. All the people that worked were so friendly that they made you feel like you were right at home. The selection of food was excellent. And everything was delicious. The desserts were great.You have to try their fried biscuits and apple butter. Important note: Monday night is a special discounted price. It is very, very affordable. I gave it 4 stars because it is just not a place that you go to lose weight. LOL

I visited Chambers Restaurant as part of a group on a Thursday evening. The service was decent and the people were very nice. The food, however, was a different story as there was a very slim selection and the food was very dry and did not have much flavor. They were not busy that evening so I wonder if the food had been sitting out for some time. I do not believe they brought out more food the entire time we were there. They also ran out of almost every desert and so many people in our group were unable to get the items they wanted.

Ive been going to Chambers Restaurant for 29 years. I go there anytime Im within 50 miles of the place. Its the best southern cooking around, one of my favorite restaurants. Hometown Americana, if you like it, go here. Love the biscuits and apple butter. The desserts are amazing. I hope to keep going there for another 29 years.
