My in-laws live in Lockport. While visiting them from Georgia with my parents, my mother-in-law showed us around Joliet. Downtown was cute and my Dad and I are big coffee lovers so, of course, we thought we HAD to stop into "Jitters" based on the name alone. Also, we all prefer Mom and Pop shops over chains so we made a coffee stop even though we didnt really need or want a coffee. The only good things I can say are: 1. They sell Green Mountain, a great choice of coffee. 2. The young lady who poured us our black coffees was nice. The older lady behind the counter immediately rubbed me the wrong way by barking at us as soon as we walked in, "how many?", "for here or to go?", "together or separate?". ok, there was only 1 other guy in the whole place. I immediately let her know we were all together, it was just 2 coffees to go. I mean, how simple is that order? She didnt greet us, smile or act the least bit friendly, not even professional. I thought something must be wrong with her. I tried extra hard to be nice and normal, despite her gruff and unwelcoming manner. I paid $4 for 2 small black coffees, more expensive than Starbucks! and I had to put up with her rudeness. It only started there, she continued to be crazy and rude. She doesnt even thank me but hands me a $1 that is very visibly ripped in half and barely taped back together. As I started to put it away in my wallet, I noticed this and very nicely asked for a different dollar bill that isnt ripped. Now, I dont know if this is some lame ploy of hers to try to get $1 tips on bad service and overpriced drinks and she assumed I would drop the whole dollar in the big bowl of tips right by her register, but I was preparing to give change from my coin purse. She IGNORED my request and didnt even look up. About 5 seconds later after not getting a response, I calmly said to her, well, Ill switch it with your dollar here in the tip bowl (it is all their money, one way or another shes getting her ripped dollar back). She growls at me, "Dont touch that! Those are our tips!" and smacks her hand over my dollar that I was replacing. This was the most attention I had gotten the whole time, and it was too much! She was psycho. She reminded me of the mom from The Goonies. Anyway, I said to her as she very begrudgingly went into her register to give me a new dollar, "Someone has had way too much coffee. And, you just lost your tip. That was very rude." She looked at me and said meanly, "You werent going to leave one anyway." I immediately asked my parents and my mother-in-law to leave with me right away. I couldnt stand being in there another second with that horrible old woman. How they run that business with her behind the counter is a mystery? Not that this should ever matter, but because I read someone elses experience below, my family and I are white. Im in my mid 30s and my parents are in their 60s. Why this woman thought I was some young little kid that she could speak to that way and get away with it, I dont know. I gave her a piece of my mind and now Im telling everyone else. Dont patronize this establishment!! They dont deserve your business.

I have to admit that when I saw how little stars this amazing coffee shop had, I was floored. It looks like most of it has to do with an elder lady that works (or worked) at this place. I have never met her in the 3-5 times I have been there, so I dont think she works the counter anymore, but I am not sure. So no need to worry about the service, it is beyond WONDERFUL now. I am TOTALLY in LOVE with this place. Not only is their coffee AMAZING (MUCH better then anything at Starbucks) but they are reasonably priced, their food is amazingly good, the atmosphere is the most relaxing EVER. You can curl up with a good book while drinking their amazing coffee and enjoying their great good. Last but not least, is the owner. She is the sweetest women; we have come before when she had just closed, but she opened the doors anyways and made us coffee to go and allowed us to sit outside and enjoy ourselves. Also, I was leaving before after finishing about 1/2 my favorite drink (chilled Salted Carmel Latte, talk about YUM) and while dealing with a 3 yr old, his bad, my purse and book, I dropped the drink. I felt bad for making a mess and loved that drink so much I was going to purchase another one, but she instantly told me not to worry about the mess and that she would make me a new one. I could not believe it. She is WONDERFUL! You HAVE to visit this place...

I went to the library today with my 4 year old niece for some books. I purchased a honey bun for my niece since she was good for me in the library. I went into Jitters afterward to get a small hot chocolate. As I was looking to ordering, the lady told me she saw my niece grab something from the drinks fridge. I told the lady politely that she did not grab anything, Ive been watching her the whole time. She kept ranting and claiming that my niece stole something and started to get ignorant. I dont know if she thought the honey bun was from her store or what. But she threatened to call the cops on me. I asked her if she wanted she could check my bag. She ignored my comment and continued threatening to call the police. I left without purchasing anything and am never going in there again. The lady was so rude that I would never recommend her shop to anyone. She scared my niece (to the point of shaking) and called her a thief!!! Any other person with a child would do the same thing I did. Dont ever go to Jitters, especially if you have kids!!!!

Ive been working down town joliet for the past 2 months. I love coffee and always pass by this shop. I finally decided to stop in today. Most coffee shops are known for their friendly environment and good coffe, pasteries, etc... Well the service was horrible. The older lady at the front running the register was extremely rude. I ordered a coffee and went else where for something to eat. I will never return and will make sure none of my coworkers do either.

How unfortunate that such a cute little place with good food can be spoiled by only one person...and I found out that she was the "Owner" OMG....thats even worse. As much as I like the food and coffee I have opted to stop going. I dont trust her prices since she wont even give a receipt...unless you really force her to. How can a business run without proper receipts??? I dont even know how much tax shes charging me Vs. the food. Soooo SAD!

Never Ever again. The attitude in this place is not worth the trip. The ONE lady (owner) needs to have better people skills. How can she get away with talking to people the way that she does, kids none the less. She better watch out because with my experience I have had there, I am hoping that place will closed down. No one deserves to be treated that way. Especially a special needs child!
