Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday around 4.30. The place wasnt too busy. We had our choice of two tables. The waitress started started us out with a basket of bread and butter then asked if we would want a drink. She gave us time to look over the menu and we placed our order. My husband had the pork chop dinner with the kidney beans and I had rice with pigeon peas even though that was not my first choice. First choice would have been rice with salchichon but they were all out. We also ordered their sampler with a little bit of everything on it as an appetizer. I didnt care much for the sampler, the rice had very little taste the beans were delicious. Also ordered relleno de Papa and alcapurrias. My honest opinion I would not go back for dinner itself as my husband stayed at the pork chop dinner did not have any flavor on the meat itself and as I stated before my comment in regards to the rice, the frituras would be about the only thing I would go back for and not often.

My husband and I each ordered Jibaritos which were just so-so. The banana was a bit too fried and there was too much mayo. What bothered us is they decided to make our meals combos without asking. We showed the waiter exactly what we wanted on the menu - two Jibaritos for $5.95 each, one can of Coke and one glass of water. But the waiter decided on his own to change it to combos for $8.95 each. He mentioned wed be getting rice so we thought it was included. So for $3 more we got a little pile of rice and a can of Coke. Not worth it. At the register I complained but the guy didnt care. I guess theyd rather make a few extra bucks than to have returning customers. If he tried to compensate in some way - like taking off a couple bucks, we probably would have gone back again to try something different. But we dont like being tricked so never again!

Place looks nice plates come out looking decent but there is no flavor in any of the food and make sure you ask about the price for everything. Because we assumed rice came with our food because they said jibarito with rice we said we didnt want the rice they said it came with it then later we find out they charged us for the sandwich then more for the rice then when we argued about it there upped the price for the sandwich because they said it was a special. So watch the price and the food had no flavor. First and last time I go here.. Kinda sad because the food looked some what decent but it wasnt.. Next time Ill make sure to stick with the Puerto Rican food in Chicago

My friends and I went to Delicia Tropical Cafe and we were not impressed. We have tried La Boriquen and Boriquen Lounge in the city and we by far say the jibaritos is much better in the city than elgin. Our food took forever to be served and we were just left there with only bread and butter. Then when the food arrived it only comes with just the sandwich when in other restaurants with rice. If you ask you rice they charge you an extra 3$ and in my opinion thats really overpriced for a jibarito meal. It came out to be 8.25 in the end which is very overpriced than the restaurants in the city and they include rice. I would not recommend this place. Sorry.

This place deserves all the positive ratings it has received. We went last night and were completely blown away by the service, quality, and quantity of food. I had the best porkchops Ive ever had before and the mofongo was awesome (and completely new to me, I might add). The waiter was patient but extremely helpful in explaining puerto rican food and suggesting things for us to try, and the final bill was so low I couldnt believe how much delicious food we had eaten (and had for the next day, I might add). One of the best dining experiences Ive EVER had.

I went for the first time today and ordered to go. I got camaron al ajillo, it was ok nothing great and I got like 9 shrimp. The side of mofongo was bigger but it was SO dry and bland I couldnt eat it, threw it out. I got my bf pernil which was the saltiest thing we ever ate, threw that out. The arroz tasted too microwaved. Ugh, I was excited to go try something new but I will not be going back and wont recommend it. If you are into good, delicious home cooking, please dont waste your time and money.

The food tastes very dry the rice was bad, when I go to a rican restaurant I expect the did to be Puerto Rican not Mexican. The alcapurria is not good, dont eat the arroz, service was bad. If your looking for good Rican food stay away from this place. Leaves a bad taste. Better off making the hour drive to Chicago. At least the food is authentic in the city, and unlike here makes you come back for more.

This place is very unprofessional and has no experience in the food or restaurant industry. The food is basic but the service and the commitment in delivering a good experience for the customer is very unsatisfactory. They are very slow and employees have no sense of what serving a customer actually is yet still expect a tip. I wish there was another Puerto Rican restaurant to take their business.

I have been going to Delicia tropical cafe for a while now and it has always been excellent. I stopped in today for dinner with my wife and it was acceptional the mofongo and jibaritos are always cooked to perfection. Highly recommend both and the papa rellena its a good starter. Highly recommend Delicias for so high quality Puerto Rican food
