Great little neighborhood coffee shop thats been around for ages. 8-10 tables and a half dozen comfy couches and chairs. Free wi-fi with password. Several outlets. Tables at a good height for working. Music is instrumental on low volume. Local art (not for sale) on the wall, lots of eclectic books and games, and plenty of leaflets, business cards, and fliers. I was there from 7 to 840 pm on an April weekday night. Place was about 2/3rds full when I arrived, and empty when I left. They in fact asked me to leave at 840 instead of closing time of 900 because there had been so little business the past hour. Small selection of good loose leaf teas. They do an excellent chai latte London Fog style - just make sure to let it steep long enough, and perhaps shake in a little extra cinnamon. Small selection of sandwiches. Small selection of locally made pastries and snacks - I snagged the last piece of an excellent cherry pie.

A local coffee-house first joint, but with a small food selection for those than linger to work or converse. The coffee is great, and the staff will bend over backwards if you ask them for something. Daily-ish trivia gets you 0.25 off your coffee, and they have buy 10 get one free cards as an easy loyalty program. They have a good selection of homemade sweets (try the date bars!) and pastries. Real bagels. Not those monstrous Panera bakery goods. Real boiled and baked bagels in a size that will not lead to early diabetes. Cinnamon rolls are also pretty good, and while the breakfast tacos are fine (nothing too fancy) the salsa they make with them is the real star. They also have a rotating cast of sandwiches that are sometime great, but sometimes pretty average. Its usually a very small selection. Source: Over a hundred visits across more than two years.

Fantastic coffee joint, I have been in there almost every day the past few weeks before I move to NYC and will truly miss the staff and the coffee. Tommy is always beyond friendly and goes above and beyond to make sure I have a great little start to my day or an afternoon pick me up. And the kindness from Victoria is something that will never meet a dimuendo mixed with her undying ability to joke around and talk about life and makes me feel truly welcome. I will miss a lot about chicago, but I will miss most of all the comfort and start to my days. Everyone should go to emerald city coffee!

Everything you could want in a coffee shop. The staff is friendly and they learn your order if you stop in regularly. Great environment. I love the local artwork on display, and the coziness of the bookshelves and games. Theres always a good mix of people working, hanging out and just stopping in before taking the L. The daily trivia question is always fun, and I love their free drink rewards card. Plus they make a great latte. Ive been stopping in a few times a week for the past few months, and Im glad my experiences there are always positive. A great coffee shop thats consistently good.

Excellent coffee, middling food. The coffee and espresso are well worth the price, but the sandwiches are a tad overpriced. I recommend the Quick Fix (Iced espresso, cream, and chocolate) and their lemonade. The shop itself is well-maintained and cozy; there are books and board games to occupy your time and-most importantly-free Wi-Fi. Enjoy your time here, and soak in the noise of the El and the eclectic local art on display. The price of coffee here is well worth the ambiance.

I <3 local coffee shops, and this is a little gem in Chicago. Located underneath/next door to the red line, this place is really convenient for the commute. Its also got great seating if you need a place to work, meet with friends, or read a book. The staff is always amazing and friendly, the trivia is really fun, and they have a great frequent buyer card. Nothing but the best to say about this place!

Andrew provided very friendly service. I asked for whole milk in my cappuccino, but since they dont have that, he offered to mix half&half with 2%, without me asking him to do so. The cappuccino itself was also very good; the beans are not over-roasted, so its not bitter and theres a nice nuttiness.

Ive only had coffee here, its very tasty and it feels much more authentic compared to other chain coffee places. When the place is crowded its a bit difficult to even walk around as their tables are too close together.

A cute coffee shop with nice atmosphere. Its right off of the Sheridan red line, so you can easily stop in before or after work. The downside is that its not open late, so studying there in the evening isnt an option.

Very very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast tacos. Laid back environment. Exactly what Im looking for youre looking in a coffee shop not called Starbucks. Its unique and should be savored, relax and unwind here.

Quaint little neighborhood coffee shop nestled under the tracks. Lovely spot to camp out and relax, have a cuppa, and write or read. Surprisingly low noise from the train considering its location.

Cozy and friendly coffeehouse with a trendy, artsy atmosphere and lots of great specialty coffees and sweets / sandwiches. Excellent place to meet someone before going anywhere via Red line.

Killer vibe, delicious drinks -- their Black Eye is one of my favorites in the city. Slightly on the expensive side, but worth it. Sit and enjoy the atmosphere if you have the time.

Cozy "cyber" cafe with the best coffee in town--great sandwiches too. You can lounge around for hours with your laptop or fav book by the fire place and the service is excellent!

Nice place, nice people. A couple vegan treat options. The coffee is not good, especially if you want a smooth, quality cup. Bad music.

Discreet, low-lit, and relaxing with polite, friendly and unobtrusive staff. Also, the Shins; great music playing always.

Decent neighborhood place. Only suggestion is that it could use some deep cleaning, could just be the building its in.
