Visited here on Thanks Giving night with my family, 2 adults and 2 kids, as they were one of the few places open in Surfside. Was greeted pleasantly enough, seated promptly and the table was son adorned with water, bread and bruschetta. We were given menus and a wine list which seemed OK, prices were a little high and some items "of the day" items just listed question marks instead of a price. There were no soft drinks menus for the kids and no kids food options either. The waiter came to take our wine order but after I had told him that Id not be ordering wine that night, he just disappeared without asking if wed want anything else so we were left with just the water. He returned for our food order, we werent yet ready which wasnt a problem to him but we wanted to know what the risotto of the day was. We was told it was whatever we wanted it to be as it was made fresh to order and would come in a white creamy sauce. We decided that we wanted 4 risottos, just a regular chicken and goats cheese risotto and all four of us wanted the same. The waiter agreed that this could be done and that the chef would be happy that they were all the same. We asked for a garlic bread with cheese for the table whilst we waited but was told thats what the bread and bruschetta was for. Whilst waiting for the food, restaurant staff were attentive to other tables, one Italian speaking one and one French speaking one and as they left there was lots of laughs, hugs, kisses in the usual merry European way. It all felt quite cliquey and we felt a little out of place. The food came and after tasting it before the obligatory spoonful of Parmesan, I can only describe what I tasted as a cross between floury cream and babys milk formula. It wasnt great but not inedible. The Parmesan helped the flavour as did some generous seasoning from the salt and pepper on the table. We decided not to risk dessert after the risotto so we just asked fr the bill and what came was a massive shock. Four risottos for $100 + tax and tip. The check came in at $118 making each risotto one of the most expensive items on the menu. The service was OK, the food was distinctly average. I wouldnt go again and wouldnt recommend it unless youre Italian or French and perhaps in with the clique.

Food was great, from the appetizer to the dessert. I recommend the veal. The rigatonis tomato sauce was a bit bland for my taste but my wife liked it. The tiramisu was excellent. All that, together with the conscientious servers (offered wine tastes, added tomato on a salad when we noticed one salad didnt come with them, politely checked on us various times - the manager/owner? also serves so the level of service is high) made this a great Sunday night dinner out for us. Lastly, the many repeat customers there speak to the quality of this restaurant. Enthusiastic recommendation here.

My husband and I when we first met was in surfside in 1999. We ate dinner from Specchio almost every Friday night for many years living in Surfside. This Saturday, May 7, 2016 17 years later.... we are returning to Specchio to dine and celebrate with our children our 15 year wedding anniversary. Enough said !! Specchio is very special to us and absolutely delicious !! We congratulate Specchio for being so consistent in every aspect.

Food, is OK. For sure overpriced. The waiter was polite. The girl that brought the food, Maria, had her thumb inside our plates as she was placing them on the table. This is the first Italian restaurant where I have heard loud techno/trance music played. I see all the stars and wonder wether theyre for the same place. I suggest you go to Carpaccios up the street and get great food, awesome service, great ambiance for similar price.

Chef Giovanni runs this Surfside icon as if he is on a mission. Very passionate about his food and wine. Decent prices.Casual outside and more formal inside. From the second you walk in you are treated as family, The appetizers are just a tease. When you get your main course you will feel like you are in Italy. My favorite restaurant in Surfside and reasonably priced.

Love love love this restaurant! Weve been going to Specchios for 17 years once or twice a week! Everything is wonderful! My favorite is the ravioli with Gorgonzola sauce. Its the best Ive ever had! The ricotta cheesecake and the tiramisu are equally amazing! I highly recommend this place, its definitely among my favorites
