Delicious pastries, sandwiches, pizza, gluten free...WHAT??!! Yes its true, this place makes great food that just happens to be gluten free. Usually gluten free=cardboard texture, no flavor, boring. But not at The Bald Strawberry, my wife and I were extremely impressed at the quality and variety of the items on the menu. I had the peanut butter/banana/honey sandwich. As the late, great Jimmy Walker would say; it was "DYO-NO-MIIITTTTTEEEE!!!". I was little bit skeptical of the sandwich-on-a-waffle concept, but let me tell you it was great. My wife tried the pizza, it too was fabulous. No compromise in flavor at all, NOICE. If you have a gluten sensitivity, this place is a no-brainer, but even if you just want to try something different, I highly recommend The Bald Strawberry. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to Melbourne.

Utmost charm & quality. Remarkable waffles! Finally a place that respects my request for a well done waffle. Ambiance is mellow and cozy. The cakes were yum, even with the sliightly different texture, still would try a diff kind everytime. Brownies blew us away and the italian cookies are niice, not overly sweet, sO perfect with strong coffee. What a surprise that this caliber cafe/bakery is located in such an unlikely spot. The chef was über kind and such a pleasure to chat with, he let us try the Cowboy Coffee cake that his mother use to make and it was dreamy, delicate and light. Very unlike traditional bakeries because they use better sugar so its not cloyingly sweet. We adore this place, w/o a doubt, shall be back for more & more goodness. Thanks for the healthier, less guilty, decadent treats!

I was so excited when I stumbled upon this place, Ive been a Vegetarian for 8 years and have know the struggle of finding delicious vegetarian friendly restaurants. But sadly I was massively disappointed with this cafe. While the food was actually quite good it was the service that was lacking. It was my first time so I did have some questions, the cashier that was attending me, seemed to be very irritable and annoyed that I was asking questions. Quite frankly he was rude, what further shocked me was when I discovered that he was the manager on duty. I always try to support local business owners especially in a time where corporation seem to be taking over everywhere we look but in this instances I can not support this business.

Update: The Bald Strawberry has consolidated. The whole place is now where the old bakery was. Joes artsy side has really come alive here. Fun and inventive decor. Was just by here for some challah and sandwiches. Its changed to be more like an order-window and small seating area, so its altogether a different paradigm. Service is good as always, and the foods even better! Glad theyre still around! Celiac certified! My wife and I are big fans of this family-run place. Ambiance is suitably eclectic, the staff is super-fun, and the food is fantastic, even by non-GF standards.

I am so happy to have the Bald Strawberry in Melbourne!! The café is amazing, with creative options and ALL gluten free!! The food is delicious! I have had 3 different choices so far and all were wonderful!! The bakery, a little ways down from the café is also great as it has all gluten free baked goodies. Its nice to have this option rather than "going without" dessert. I have enjoyed all I have tried there as well. Great options!!

On Friday I went in and got a pizza. It was not good, they must have had the waffle cooker up to high because, the outside of my waffle was burned and the inside was not cooked all the way. I go her on a normal basis and today was the first time I was disappointed. They are to expensive to not have food on point. Not sure if Ill return because I dont have money to waste.

I would never have believed the chocolate cake was gluten free. I have no dietary restrictions but, since my wife does, have been subjected to gluten free foods that were also taste free. The food was absolutely excellent. My wife loved it as she could have anything on the menu. I loved it because it tasted great.

Our favorite place to eat, no question! Best sandwiches, pizza, and baked goods in town, and all gluten free! My husband loves their sandwiches and pizza and he can eat all the gluten he wants, but he loves their So Fresh sandwich more than anything. That says a lot! Great job, Bald Strawberry!

So my wife and I stumbled upon this wonderful shop one day and now make it back here at least once a week. I have tried about half the pizzas and sandwiches and they are all great. All I can say is this place is awesome. On top of all that I did not know it was gluten free.

I was not expecting it, but the food is really good. I am not into the gluten free or organic bandwagon, but I am coming back to eat here. The ambiance is really nice too, and the people are very friendly. Try their waffle sandwiches and you will not be disappointed.

Not happy that both places are in in one place. The bakery is very limited now and every time we go by they are closed? Whats up with that? Plus, who wants to eat a piece of cake with the scent of salsa on it?? Wish they would go back to the old style.

I got the Sweet Daydream sandwich, the hot coffee with cashew milk and sampled the pumpkin bread. It was all fabulous. The sandwich was a bit pricy but it was amazing. The vegan options were nice too. Ill definitely visit again next time Im on the area.

Ummm... quite simply, delicious. Today I decided to try lunch here, upon my wifes recommendation. Had the special, the California Rueben. OMG! Thought all of my taste buds died and went to heaven! Will resist urge to eat here all the time.

This place is great even if you dont need to avoid gluten! Went work a group of people, some of whom had a gluten allergy, and all of us enjoyed our food and desserts afterwards.

A hidden reassure for this area and definitely a must do! Vegan eats, baked items, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and gluten free beer to name a few.
