My wife and I eat here at least twice every week. The Beef Orange Peel is indescribably delicious and my favorite. My wife has many food allergies and they go out of their way to accommodate her needs so she can also enjoy a mouth watering meal. We also enjoy bringing our grandchildren here and if what we want is not on the menu, the experienced chefs can usually make what we like. And when I want my food very spicy... Yes, I get it as spicy as I like. The dining room is quite elegant, more like eating at a very fancy restaurant, but without the fancy prices. The service is always top notch with neat, well groomed servers who always treat us like family. All menu items are available for takeout on days we prefer to stay home and enjoy a great meal while watching a movie. As we are not normally very big eaters and often prefer a smaller plate, we often avail ourselves to "early birds" on weekdays from 2:30 - 6:30 in the same elegant dining room where larger portions come in serving dishes during dinner hours and weekends, so that everyone at the table gets to sample more than one delicious meal. Before moving to this area, my wife and I always preferred to celebrate our anniversary dinner here, ever since they first opened in 1992. What truly makes this place so welcoming and the food so incredible is the same family had been cooking and serving here since opening day: except the "kids" are now grown and working alongside their elders, making and serving the same great food we enjoy so very much. There is also an elegant bar with an elegant bar tender, where we can enjoy a cocktail while waiting for a table on busy nights, usually weekends, or just stay and have the same great meals served. Yes, this is our very favorite restaurant for lunch or dinner and we truly wish we could eat here every day.

First review Ive ever written but this place was so great I felt it would be a crime not to after seeing some of the other bad ones. The first thing was the customer service. Im so sad that I forgot the weighters name (tall skinny older white gentleman) but he was truly the definition of a Grade A perfect server. What was so nice was that after realizing we had no idea what most things on the menu were (not myself but my parents speak german) he first gave some tips on whats great and answered any questions. But afterwords he said if theres anything you like that you dont see on the menu, let me know and Im more than sure we can make it. And I gaurantee it will be better than any other place you ever had it. His knowledge on how all the food was prepared and tasted made you feel really comfortable with whatever you ordered, and to have that much confidence in their product made me excited for it. When the food came out we were amazed. Everything tasted sooo fresh, so much flavor in every bite, he hadnt exagerated one bit. I asked him for simply general tsaos chicken with white rice, and it was literally the best ive ever had. At the end we all had leftovers but not much rice left. When he came to offer to-go boxes without mentioning anything he asked if we would like some more rice with it to go at no charge, its like he read our minds (I mention this because a previous bad review here stated the rice portions were so small). Our bill was $80 for the 3 of us (each had 1-3 beers/cocktails, 3 appetizers (1 big eggroll each that was soo fresh) and I believe the entrees were between $12-18 per person. With an $80 tab we gave him a $25 tip. The service from the gentleman was out of this world and the food was amazing.

A bad experience. First, our party all ordered alcoholic beverages. I had to return mine, it had an eye lash in it. 2nd. I cant prove it, but as one who enjoys martinis I ordered a top shelf vodka and feel it was watered down a lot. Two others at our table complained of the same. Third, they brought our appetizers to the table at the same time as our drinks (talk about rushing us). Fourth, my wife ordered a Mango beef dinner and it was uneatable. All the beef was entirely grizzle and had to be returned. My wife was too afraid to order anything else. Fifth, although the waiter really wasnt all that bad, he was arrogant and with long hair was not what I expected a waiters appearance to be. Sixth; when the check came to the table, there were two extra small charges; one was .50 the other .55 added to the bill. When I questioned our waiter he could not provide us with a reasonable explanation that made sense. Oh, by the way all parties at the table occurred similar extra fees. Needless to say, although Ive been to Yen Yens approx. 10-times it is obvious something has changed. This was my last time. I would recommend others to reconsider Yen Yens before spending your money to be ripped off.

This place was terrible. And Im not afraid to say it. Mostly because it looks/feels/taste like its from the 50s. And since there was no internet back then they wont know any better. Be prepared for an automatic 18% tip of you have 4 or more in your party... Thats right 4. Goodbye family night out. Or if you want to split a check. While we were there 4 guys in their early 20s rolled up very respectful and were told it would be a 45 min wait. They asked if they could sit at the bar and were turned away.... Not sure what was going on.. Ok now the food. Bland and left much to be desired. Not sure how this is even Asian food as it has been so Americanized that there is no taste left. Just keep moving on and find something better

Being Chinese food lovers and after seeing all the good reviews, we gave this place a shot. We couldnt have been more disappointed -- this is a place that could only be recommended by those who have never had good Chinese food. Everything we ordered was bland, though it was all listed as "spicy" on the menu. We had to specially request chopsticks and hot tea(!). The prices were high relative to the quality. The only redeeming quality of this place was our server, Jackson, who was top notch. (It seemed that even he knew that the food wasnt good.)

Not sure how to approach this review. They hung up on me to start. I called back and ordered. Spring rolls were ok. A bit mushy and flavorless. Crab rangoon (per my husband) were not eatable. Egg drop soup was oddly gelatinous and lacking enough egg for my taste. I didnt eat more than 1/8th of it. General Tsos chicken was actually pretty good and so was the sweet and sour chicken. The chicken fried rice had hardly any chicken in it. Overall we would not order from here again.

The food has never disappointed at Yen Yen. However, their new policy of not giving out fortune cookies smacks of penny-wise and pound foolish. No, the cookies were not food", but rather part of the experience. Who has not had a chuckle or what children did not ask to have the "fortune" interpreted... Anyway, it was a poor management decision. If they begin cutting back on something so innocuous, one wonders what is next. Hope that they reconsider.
