An all around satisfying experience: food for the palate, food for the senses, food thought, and food for the soul. Smith Public Trust is worth every cent and second spent. Palate: the kale and cranberry salad is as good to your waistline as it is to your taste buds. Its fresh and interesting flavors were devoured in one continuos bite. The ravioli brings the "awe" back in awesome - the best Ive ever had. Senses: The limitations of function meet the ambitions of art, the practicality of space and eloquence of design command equal respect. My visual experience flowed into the welcoming feeling of the space. When was the last time I sat a bar that was a remade shipping container? The one and only time - Smith Public Trust. All of your senses are stimulated. Btw. the Juniper Rosetta Stone was delicious. Thought: Theres history, culture, and memories in the making at every glance. From Benjamin Franklin to Jacques De Molay and Meek Mill, clearly youre invited to think, if you dare. The ambiance is as intellectually open as the space itself. Soul: Whats a great dinner without phenomenal music? Carefully picked music that spans all genres was the icing on top. I couldnt tell whether my seat wiggle was a reaction to the music or a happy dance for the food - hey, I win either way :) Stop reading and go to Smith Public Trust. Boom.

We went here for dinner on a Friday evening. It is definitely a popular place, and most of the seats were taken, but we were able to borrow the end of a long table from a friendly party that wasnt using the whole thing. There was a haze about the place which added an air of authenticity, but did not smell smoky at all. The menu is pretty diverse, and the drink menu offers a wide variety of beers and fun cocktails. We ordered the nachos with the pork and a fancy grilled cheese, and it wouldnt be an exaggeration to claim that this meal was the single best grilled cheese Ive ever had (the bacon and the cherry peppers didnt hurt!), and right up there with the best nachos Ive ever had. And the prices are shockingly low considering how good the food is. I was afraid, after seeing the prices, that either the food wasnt going to be good or I wouldnt be served much of it. Neither were true. If youre living in Brookland or visiting a friend in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and check this place out.

I like this place, but Im willing to admit its not the best bar in Brookland. Its kind of a cavernous space with really tall ceiling. It makes it feel emptier than it usually is. In the past, my SO and I have had some rude and unattentive service from the bar staff, which was enough to put her off, but I still go with my roommate and it seems like the service issues are worked out. The bartender I had most recently was great. The beer selection is ok, but could be better. Lots of belgians, which I like, but rarely any good IPAs. The last time I went they were out of red wine too, which was a bummer for my roomy. The food is pretty good, and the menu is nice and varied. Ive gotten the burger pretty often, and its always cooked perfectly. I get it with avocado and bacon when I want to splurge, and its tough to beat. Im glad its in the neighborhood, but Id like to see it up its game in the drinks department.

Im so glad there are more awesome places joining the ranks in Brookland, especially on 12th St NE (as opposed to the new Art Walk off the metro). Its a quick walk from the metro, but make sure to have a smartphone or GPS on you, as the walk from the metro to restaurant can be a little confusing the first time. The place has a very coffee house vibe with a quirky twist, which I really liked. Its very open, so the acoustics arent fantastic, but its not terrible. The beer selection was really good and the bartender was super nice and very helpful when I asked for beer advice. The food is pretty good (not amazing, but good) and they serve breakfast all day which is awesome. Overall, Id be just as comfortable bringing a barhopping group here as I would showing up by myself with a book and everything in between. Definitely worth checking out, especially if youre in the Brookland area.

I had high hopes for this establishment. The security was overbearing. He followed my sister and I telling us we were blocking a walk way but we were just waiting for a slow moving group in front of us but left a group of people doing the same thing alone. The mojitos were too sweet and the bartender looked annoyed when I asked him to remake them, and the waitress who served us could not remember which beers they had run out of. The owners seemed to be very nit picky. He followed patrons around, pushing in chairs and tapping patrons on the shoulder when he did not approve of whatever they were doing. He also rudely took our table away without explanation. The music was good however, the speakers kept going out. I think this place will improve with time.

Just finished eating here while on a weekend getaway in DC. The place is very relaxed and the staff very friendly. The duck spring rolls were PHENOMENAL! I wish they made an entree out of the duck. It was something I wish I could have ordered again and taken back to the hotel with me. For my entree I had the duck pupusas. I had no idea what they were until out waitress explained what they were, and decided why not try something different? They were also great. Not as amazing as the duck, but for 6 dollars they were pretty darn good. I would highly recommend this place, and I will definitely come back in the future!

I attended this restaurant with some friends for dinner, as we concluded dinner a mouse ran across the stage. Once the staff was alerted that there was a rodent in the establishment, our party DID NOT even receive an excuse me or an apology. I am going to contact the health department and of course wont be patronizing Smith Public Trust again.

A pretty unique place with a part bar part coffee house feel. The couches and communal table are a nice touch. The back room bleachers are great for watching games. Nice beer selection of craft brews. Food is simple, but straight forward, upscale pub grub done well. If youre in Brookland you should stop by.

DC seems to have a glut of gastropubs these days. I try to judge then by the standard of "is this $12-16 burger actually worth it." Here, it totally was, the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I believe they also do events here, which makes it a great space for the community in Brookland.

Great vibe at this spot, a good lunch location as well. Food is great, I had their nachos with chicken and they were very filling and not greasy. Came with a friend and did lunch, wish I could have spoken with the owner. I may come by for happy hour or dinner soon, BREAKFAST ALL DAY

A variety of foods done well with excellent beer pairings and unique craft cocktails. Vibe is chill and crowd is all kinds of mixed. Space is open with intimate seating options around every corner. Friendly staff. Only growth area--patio ambience/view.
