There was nobody in the restaurant, which shouldve been a sign, but we thought maybe its just an unpopular time? We stood by the door for a few minutes waiting for someone to come out from the kitchen. Even though the door has a chime, we had to ring the chime again for them to notice we were here. It felt like forever but eventually we were seated. I guess to counteract the previous negative comment about being inattentive they were really aggressive about clearing plates. They often lifted up a plate in front of us waiting for us to take the last piece of something. Very awkward and we felt very rushed. One time they took away a sauce dish (which they give very little dipping sauce in) while I was in the middle of using it. The kitchen was the only good part about this restaurant, our favorite being the hot and fresh tempura (save for the shrimp which was panko breaded instead of just regular tempura batter, but thats just preference), and sadly was the highlight of the meal. Ordered sashimi and it looks nothing like the picture above. We were served really anemic looking sushi. A very thin slice cut into 6 tiny pieces for the 6 salmon sashimi ordered. The maki and special rolls had very little filling and very chintzy fish - mostly fruit and veggies. The rolls overlapped each other with loads of rice, inches of it. Even the sushi nigirI had very paper thin slices. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon was thick and pastey like it was 80% spicy mayo and tempura bits and 20% pureed fish. Very weird, never had a spicy salmon or spicy tuna like that in my life. Also what made the dining experience uncomfortable was our table was right beside the sushi preparation station, which wasnt a bad thing until the cook from the kitchen came out and stood on the corner closest to our table and stared at us. And I mean intense stare like hed never seen customers before, like we were some weird oddities for eating at this establishment. Sadly I drove over an hour in search of a good sushi place. Next time Ill just head into NYC. I recommend whatever you do, avoiding this place.

Let me preface this by saying I wish I could give a ten star rating! Excellent customer service and excellent sushi. We ordered takeout: 2x three-roll lunch specials and a special roll. We took a little bit longer than expected to pick it up, and when we got there, they had re-made all the rolls for us without mentioning it or charging us for it, because they didnt want the sushi to sit around too long. Those were the first points in their favor - who even does customer service that well?! The rolls themselves were extremely generously sized and contained large pieces of fish. More points! But the thing that unexpectedly impressed me the most was how deliciously soft and tender the rice and nori were. Ive been eating sushi from many Japanese restaurants across several states over almost two decades, and never before have I specifically enjoyed this part of the roll, or even noticed it other than its utility as containment for the fish in the roll. I had no idea what I was missing all along, as the texture and flavor of perfectly done rice and seaweed added so much. One billion stars for this place. I think Ive found my new favorite sushi place in central CT! :)

I came first time here weekend with my family. Service staff was friendly but service was terribly slow. Their buffet system is quite different from others, we need to order some and finish them first, them they serve or we can order more. We arrived around 7:00 pm, came home around 10:00, spent most of our time just waiting to our order come. What I did not like the most is the contains of one order was incredibly poor. In my opinion, $20 per person is way more expensive. For example tempura udon, in a small bowl it has two udon noodle sticks with a small carrot tempura. Gyoza or shumai had only one of each per order. We never come back again. If you want to go to buffet, Hibachi grill is much better, if you want to have some sushi, go to different restaurant. Do not waste time just waiting your food.

Horrible experience. If you want sushi or rolls do not go there. They do not know how to cook rice. Probably they are Chinese as I noticed everybody was eating fried stuff, obviously those 5 star are from people who do not appreciate nor understand Japanese food. I had rolls and they were hot, and almost no fish. The next Monday I brought the leftovers to the office and noticed the rice was hard, and understood! why they serve it hot because they do not know how to cook rice!, the heat makes the rice soft after it cools down it becomes a piece of rock. If you want to go there do not ask for raw fish you will regret it!

Sushi is absolutely terrible. I couldnt have been more disappointed. Wait staff was decent, though the sushi comes out very slow and in terrible order. They hardly give you any sushi in the rolls and pack in as much rice as possible. The quality of the sushi and sashimi was questionable and Im amazed I didnt get sick. If you want real sushi go to Koi in East Haven youll be blown away after eating at this dump. Unfortunately you would be better off with gas station sushi then Asahi.

This is FAR from the "best Japanese restaurant in CT". The staff was really friendly- the only redeeming quality. The sushi was only a slight improvement over super market sushi. And the sea scallops gave my girlfriend a case of food poisoning. All in all, we wont be going back- theres plenty of better places. I should have known something was up when there was no one else in the restaurant.

The restaurant was very nice and the wait staff was excellent. Weekend all you can eat $21 sushi menu was very similar to the place up the street. Quality of the fish was good. The rolls were a bit too thick with rice. To be the best in town all they would need to do is: add more variety to the specialty rolls on the all you can eat menu, increase the fish cuts, and cut back on the thick rice.

If youre in the area and looking for some good sushi, this is the place. The sushi is very good, the staff is very friendly and its just a nice atmosphere. I typically go for lunch and have never been disappointed. Their lunch special prices are very affordable, especially for what you get.

Best value lunch specials. No other place comes close to the price for 3 rolls, miso soup, AND salad. The sushi is done with just the right amount of rice. All other places, including supermarkets, has too much rice. Asahi has it perfect.

Went to Asahi on the 23rd. Very good sushi. The fish was fresh and the sushi was made just perfect. I have been to other places but Asahi beats them hands down for value for money especially if you are a big eater.

Sushi is very fresh and delicious, the miso is pretty good to. The lunch rolls could have been rolled a little more tightly but over all the lunch special is pretty good at a very reasonable price!
