Royal Masala is an excellent restaurant. ---- What you have to understand about restaurants like this one is that when it comes to the reviews, the majority of those who took the time to review it are those who had an outlying experience which turned out to be bad for some reason. Ive read poor reviews concerning bad waitstaff, sub par food quality, and inappropriate pricing. None of this was an issue in the slightest when we ate at Royal Masala. Whether they hired new waitstaff, upped the food quality, changed the pricing, or these reviewers had a very unusually bad experience, it doesnt matter. I would not worry about any of these things being a problem. ---- We went for the lunch buffet. At $14.95 a person, you cant get a better deal. The spread of food was great: chicken tikka masala, warm naan, tandoori chicken, and around ten other options, all of which were great. Everything was entree quality, which is very unusual for a lunch buffet. We took as much as we wanted and used as many plates as we needed. The waitstaff was beyond helpful. Every so often, someone came around offering freshly-baked naan. When the food was about to be put away, we were given the option to go back and get as much as we wanted of anything before it was cleared. ---- The owner (I assume he was the owner) was an incredibly nice man. He offered to get us anything that we wanted after the food was put away, and spoke with us about our experience, making sure everything was to our liking.---- If youre thinking about going here for the buffet, absolutely go for it. Dont let another persons off experience make you pass this restaurant up. Im sure the dinner is excellent as well - I can say confidently we will be back to try it.

My friend and I bought a 30 for 60 groupon. We were unsure going in, but the experience far exceeded our expectations. The food was cooked to perfection. From the tandoori selections we got cilantro chicken which was the hit of the night. The flavor was outrageous. The server brought it out on a sizzling plate and the sautéed onions (still cooking at the table) were to die for. We had to get the chicken masala and out of mild medium or spicy we went spicy. It was soo good...especially mixed in with the rice and scooped up with naan. Our last dish was veggie korma, medium spice. The taste was amazing. Overall friendly service, beautiful decor, and dishes did not leave me feeling weighed down at all. I was shocked by how good this place was compared to other very good Indian food restaurants throughout the Hartford area. The reason for this extensive review is because I felt bad for using the groupon!! Haha. I dont usually do this but all things considered im giving this restaurant (which I learned is under relatively new ownership) 5 out of 5 stars.

I have eaten at Masala 3 times and it has been fantastic each time. We have eaten there each time with other people, who always love it as well. Until Masala, I did not think i liked Indian food and now i love it, maybe i just love Masala. Im sorry I dont remember the exact menu items we have had, but we have not had a bad dish. We have order appetizers, Naan: different types, and a number of entrees, all were great. The only mystery to me is why the place is not more crowded when we have been there. I am afraid they wont last, please go! We are going there again this weekend. The service has always been great too!

It was worst experience that i ever had in usa. Visited lots of Indian restaurants all over states but never ever had seen such a worst service and food. Usually papad and rice comes complimentary with curry but they have separate charges for them which was around 2-5 $ per padam $$$$. Guys believe me never visit this restaurant especially for desi people........finally after having dinner we ordered lassi which took 10-15 min to tell not available then we thought to have chai which was same case......if a restaurant cant prepare chai then i believe they are either fools or new in business.......

Pathetic. We called this place and ordered some veggie dish - total piece of crap. Veggies were buried in OIL. Guy on phone was also rude we were doing him a favor, what a**hole! Would not recommend this place to anyone. Try other places in area, Taste of India for example. They also give papad, chatni, etc, when you order food. These thieves give nothing complimentary. Not worth the money they charge. I have eaten in multiple Indian restaurants all over the east coast, and mostly NYC and this ranks at the bottom.

Ridiculous restaurant. Never order from here. I paid the order online and did not receive my food. Can you believe that ? It is online robbery, happened to me can happen to someone else too. I called them and they said they do not have anyone to deliver food, and I have to come there to pick it up after the order was already paid for with additional delivery charges. I told them I had no means to reach their restaurant but the idiot guy on the phone would not stop repeating his words on the phone.

The curry chicken entree was really good. The spiciness was just hot enough that my nose did not run. I enjoy spicy food and will order again. I also ordered the Garlic Naan bread. It was really good. Although I ordered takeout, the decor of the restaurant was nice. I ordered food and thought it would take over 30 minutes and it was hot and complete in 10min. I will try the buffet next!

I just went there today after they reopened and the food was great. The masala chicken was tender and properly spiced. Their veggie dishes were all well executed, special mention of the paneer cheese and peas dish. They have a good kind of variety. Their chai tea was already sweetened, that was the only problem I had with the place. Overall very good value for a $10 buffet.

I went for a small group gathering. The food was pure crap. The shrimp was disgusting. It smelt like spoiled fish. The chicken tikka masala had no flavor. Neither did the wings. The naan was very chewy. For $25 per person, the only good part was the icecream. Besides that it is pure garbage. I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone.

I dont know how they got Zagat rating!!! This oyal Masala Indian Bar & Restaurant should not allow to re re use oil for frying. I would not recommend any indian to dine their and waste money. They are high priced and not a up to mark food. First time in my life I have taken panner kofta stuffing with Coconut!! even south indian dont do that.

They have a great buffet at lunch. Its rare that I eat Indian food, but when I get the craving this is a great option. Ive been quite a few times with different people and we all walk away full and satisfied. If youre in the mood for Indian food or a buffet then definitely check this place out.
