Really good happy hour deal here, which meant a long wait for dinner even on a Wednesday night. Granted, there were 7 of us and wed gotten there at prime time of 7:30. We were contemplating going elsewhere but by the time everyone showed up and we got some drinks at the bar an hour had already gone by and they had a table for us--hooray! This is a pretty tiny place, so the vibe was very intimate and jovial, and we ended up having a fine bday celebration here for a friend. Their happy hour menu is quite extensive, and there are drink specials as well. We really enjoyed having the waitress pour sake out of a giant bamboo log also. I was happy with all of the food except for the calamari--the tiny little pieces of squid were also overcooked, resulting in uncool chewy little nuggets. The staff was really accommodating and efficient; Id definitely love to come back here again, a real bargain on the Sunset Strip.

Decided to visit this place because they had a good range of vegetarian Japanese tapas. And when we arrived for our early dinner, we were doubly excited by the happy hour specials (available at lunch and for early dinner). The tapas and beers were only $3 each, while the sushi and rolls are 50% off. Service was attentive, prices were great, the beer was cold, and the food was good. What more do you want? Sake. They had that too, but I had to drive!

Great prices for lunch and there is also a happy hour special (same as lunch) where there are 50% off sushi. Super fresh and really tasty - the chopped scallop roll is good when done well (second time there was too much spicy mayo), but the spicy tuna bowl was the star - $7 at lunch and $10 at dinner is definitely worth it. The only drawback is the space is rather dark and dim.

I do not usually write reviews, but having been to Yatai many, many times, with each time being an excellent experience, I had to respond to "horrible service horrible atmosphere." Are you kidding?? The food is unique, absolutely delicious, and moderately priced. The service has always been great! Horrible?? Not a chance! I love this place and will be going back tonight!

This is my go-to sushi joint. Fantastic local hot spot thats tucked away in an easy-to-overlook complex off of Sunset Blvd. Not to be missed is their 50% off sushi Happy Hour promo. Amazingly fresh and delicious fish at incredible prices. Plus, overflowing sake to complement the evening. Super friendly staff. Not to be missed!!

I ate at Yatai today after a couple coworkers were raving about how delicious the food is, as well as the value. Its got a fairly intimate atmosphere, being dimly-lit with red and black tones throughout. Forget all that though, just eat the spicy tuna rice burger. Good god, this just ruined every other meal Ill have after this.

Great food, great prices... They also surprised my friend with birthday desert, thank you so much guys... My only peeve about this place is that when is full is very loud and can be hard to hear your own conversation, there are some tables outside that I would snag if theyre available =)

This place is so cool. It is hidden back in a shopping center where you wouldnt see it if you dont know its there. The spicy tuna crispy rice burger is amazing! Make sure you check out the funky movies they play in the courtyard.

Sunset blvd hidden gem! I try to go to this place anytime I have a show down the street at the Roxy. Tiny spot that is hidden away and seems to be kept pretty under the radar. The Spicy tuna crispy rice burger is amazing!
