The restaurant, which is situated next to other retail shops, is somewhat small by comparison for a restaurant (my opinion). The sign next to the door states that the "Lunch Buffet is $7.99," which I always infer as a "bargain!" My initial thought is, this place isnt that good because where is the crowd, especially for the lunch hour...? I can see the restaurant can accommodate at least 30 guests and after standing around for a minute or so, "why isnt anyone greeting us?" In my opinion, I find this to be very odd. I could see an employee standing by a counter in the rear of the restaurant and hear chatter in the "kitchen." To say we were both speechless is an understatement. We were expecting someone, anyone, to greet us and then seat us, but after a couple of minutes, I took the initiative and decided to seat ourselves! After we sat down, I guess I was still expecting someone to come over to greet us and give us a menu or tell us about their buffet menu? My wife and I walked on back to the buffet table where there were eight trays of food but no instructions from anyone regarding where to get plates and utensils...? The person at the counter just looked at us then went back to doing whatever he was doing? I then noticed a stack of clean plates and utensils off to our side, so I handed my wife one and I took the other plate and started to serve ourselves! Now, I can only describe the following plates based upon prior experience "at other restaurants" as to what they were serving because no one was there to describe to us what was at the buffet station. I could see Basmati Rice, Chicken Masala, Lamb Biryani (I think), Vegetable Biryani?, Tandoori Fish (fried fish), Aloo Gobi (Cauliflower with vegetables), some type of fried chicken wing and another vegetable tray (attached picture). The food itself appeared to have been recently prepared and well organized. I helped myself to some Chicken Masala, Basmati Rice, and I think it was Lamb Biryani? After seating ourselves, still no one came to greet us or ask us about drinks or even utensils to eat with. I got up and poured us some water, retrieved utensils, and napkins for both of us. "Wow" I have never experienced this at any restaurant that we have been to. The meal itself, I thought was good but did not stand out. The chicken Masala was good and went well with the Basmati Rice. While my wife and I were eating, we could hear people or Im assuming other employees chatting in the rear of the "kitchen" and at no time did anyone come out to even clean the dishes from the couple we observed earlier! When we were just about finished, the employee standing next to the rear counter asked if we would like some Nan (bread), which we replied yes, but thought it odd for them to ask when we were almost finished with our meals. I did go back up for a second helping. The Nan, which came near the end of our meal was very good and freshly baked. Too bad it came too late to compliment my meal!" The whole time we were there, no one else came into the restaurant? The buffet was actually decent but the lack of customers, especially around the lunch hour was perplexing to me. At no time during our lunch were we greeted by anyone for refreshments, "how was the food," "heres your bill," or whatever! The bottom line: The buffet was decent and for the price wasnt a bad deal but the service here was nonexistent! Had I not taken the initiative (because I was hungry) to seat ourselves, we may have never been seated by anyone at this establishment! Now, I customarily tip and tip very well when the service is exceptional but this has to be the first place where I didnt leave a "dime" because we were left on our own except when it came to paying the bill and even then, no one came to our table.....? Unfortunately, we will not be returning and if the owner is reading this, he needs to take stock of his business...

I went to Shalimar in San Francisco, so I thought it was the same restaurant. It isnt, but this one has a lot more options on the menu and the employees are friendlier. My mom and I ordered chana masala, samosa chaat, fish pakora, vegetable biriyani, garlic naan, and mango lassi. My favorite is the biriyani. The flavors were bright with lemon and raisins. And even though its rice, it didnt feel heavy after eating it. I also liked the samosa chaat, which is basically a deconstructed samosa topped with garbanzo beans and chutneys. Overwall, the flavors were really good. Next time, though, Im going to ask for mild because it was a bit spicy for my mother and me. But why the 3 stars if I enjoyed the meal and service? A child of one of the employees was coughing in and near the kitchen, and near our table, complaining that her throat was hurting. I know that its a family owned restaurant, and sometimes theres no one else to care of your child when youre a sole proprietor. But its uncomfortable and unsanitary to have anyone sick near where food is being prepared. I guess we could have left, but we had already placed our order. We were the only ones in the restaurant at that time, and I think it would be awkward if we just canceled our order and left.

One day I sent my boyfriend to purchase a meal there and the schedule says they open at 11am. Believing this, my he stands in front of their door at 11am exactly, and nobody is there. Next to that, there service is awful. On our first time discovering that restaurant, we walked in and everybody ignored us. After a couple of minutes, one of them walks up to us asking "you want food?" Unfortunately, there food is incredible which is why I only rate 3 stars. They really need to work on their manners toward customers other than their race. Unacceptable.

Not affiliated with Shalimar Fremont & not offering Pakistani cuisine. Food is pretty inconsistent and mainly leaning towards Punjabi version. Service is pretty ordinary, prices are jacked up more than what is mentioned so reconfirm before ordering.

The service is quick. The chicken and naan are delicious and spicy. This is a perfect indian restaurant. But still I would rather go to another restaurant where there are several options. There are not very many options in the menu

The food quality wasnt that great. The tandooti items arent that spicy as you would get at other desi resturants. The bathroom was very dirty and dine hall was just fine.
