This joint has great burritos. If you are on a trip to San Francisco and could only eat one burrito, it should be from Taqueria Cancún, Gordos Taqueria, or La Taqueria. When I think of a Mission burrito I typically think of a steamed tortilla, but Taqueria Cancún griddles them. Griddled tortillas can sometimes make a burrito difficult to eat vertically, but Cancún avoids this issue by being careful in their assembly and wrapping process. The pinto beans and pico de gallo are supporting players and shouldnt overpower, and Cancún does this right. If youve consumed other Mission burritos from respectable places, you know what I mean. The rice at Cancún is a bit mushy (but very flavorful), the cheese is perfect, and the slices of fresh avocado really help keep it fresh. Taqueria Cancúns burrito is a great example of the whole being better than the sum of the parts. They slow-cook their meats. They dont over-engineer their supporting ingredients. They provide their customers with a handful of tortilla chips and salsas (red and green) for free. Despite not using steamed tortillas, this is the burrito shop I most associate with the Mission. Cancún is a classic, they do things simple and right, and I leave satisfied and stuffed, regardless if Im sober or drunk. I will, however, get this inconvenient fact to my narrative out of the way: I HATE their Al Pastor burritos. They taste like pork in sloppy joe sauce, waaaay too sweet and ketchup-y. I come up to SF from San Diego, and we have a different idea about Al Pastor down there. If youve never had Al Pastor pork before in SD, just trust me.... its better. But everything else from Cancún -- chicken, steak, and carnitas -- is consistently top-notch. If not for the missteps on the Al Pastor, Id be willing to say Cancún is the best burrito shop in the country. Alas, a bad burrito is harder to forget than a great burrito is to remember. Still, this is my "go-to" burrito spot when Im fortunate enough to be in San Francisco.

Well, this was surprising. I wasnt expecting to ever find an El Farolito replacement, but, then I want to Taqueria Cancun. Twice, in a single weekend. And Ill say this: while I still like the burritos at El Faro better, the tacos here are superb. My first trip here, I ordered one of their al pastor super tacos, which comes loaded with just about everything, and super generous portions of avocado to boot. My second trip a few days later was to try a carne asada super burrito, which, while still tasty, lacked the stand-out flavor you can find at El Faro. Now, if youre close to Cancun, is the difference worth trekking out to El Faro for? No. But if you havent decided then, then, well! ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - While the space isnt huge, and it can certainly get crowded, Cancun is far more accessible than El Faro, if not simply because of gaps in the walkway that allow for easily maneuvering through lines. Bathroom - Didnt check them out.

I usually hesitate to give out 5 stars to a restaurant, because 5 star means its perfect. This place definitely isnt perfect but based on how delicious the food alone was, you get 5 buddy... allllllllllll 5 stars. I had some flavor enhancers (alcohol) right before coming here so my review may be a bit skewed. I had the Carne asada super burrito and it was phenomenal. The carne asada was extremely tasty and tender. There was a ton of guac in it which is always a plus.... AND IT WAS 6.50$!!! I dont think ive ever paid 6.50 for something edible in the city. Living in SOMA makes you appreciate a deal. Both of the red and green salsa were really really tasty; they had a kick to them as well, which I will always appreciate. Definitely the best tacqueria Ive had in the city. Will definitely come back as soon as I get a chance. MUST HAVES: Carne Asada anything The green avocado salsa Cash

Ive always been a fan of this delightful restaurant. The environment is noisy, and during busy times you will be bumped into and breathe the direct exhale of every other drunk person trying to get their drunk food. You can call in orders in advance, which is the ONLY way to order during busy times as you can walk in 15 minutes later and your food is ready. So (you ask yourself) why three stars? Ill tell you person reading my review: quality control. Ive ordered the same thing from them, roughly 100+ times over the years and the end result has NEVER been the same order to order. Its almost always good (but NOT always, which is one of the stars) however I would like to be able to tell someone that I know what theyll get when I recommend somewhere to eat. If you want a good chance of tasty food then this is a safe bet, however sorry Taqueria Cancun: three stars is as high as we can go.

-- Lunch only --- Though I think theyre known for the Wetback and the Camarones (Shrimp) Burrito, I decided to tackle lighter fare: regular carnitas burrito and quesadilla suiza. Re: serving size, the burrito left me comfortably full but if youre looking for the mother of all burritos that will give you lunch and dinner portions - the best spot is Castillo Mason. The carnitas itself wasnt that memorable but at least it wasnt dried out. The quesadilla suiza wasnt prepared to my liking - I prefer the carne asada cut up and the quesadilla using a larger flour tortilla. Not sure what is more authentic, but they prepared the rather small tortillas and non-marinated meat slices. All this said, the taqueria is still worlds apart from the Chipotle at the mall. Its worth a stop for all the local techies much too lazy to walk to 1058 Hoagies or Deli Board.

I really love this place. Id suggest coming with a friend or two and splitting dishes. I went with some friends and that is what we did. The ceviche tostada was really great. Perfect for a hot SF day. The fish was fresh and it was actually pretty cheap (under $4 if I recall correctly). We also had a wet burrito. It was pretty filling and tasty. The sauce had a great taste. It seems like they make it themselves. The restaurant has picnic tables instead of usual chairs. I wish more places did this. It makes it much easier to cram all your friends and family around a table. Some of my friends live closeby and after many trips to the taquerias in the area, we think this might be our winner. Go here if you want no nonsense mexican food.

Im pretty sure this is my favorite place to get a burrito when Im drunk. Aside from being a lively place to finish off a weekend night, the food is really good. The most flavorful selections of meats! I had the Carne Asada super burrito, and I dont usually get super, but here everything is sooo good together you cant pass it up, and slices of avocado! The carne asada nachos some girl offered me were really good too (hey, if they are cute enough to make out with, its okay to share food, haha). Their drinks are also really good! I had the melon juice, and i could taste the cantaloupe and honey dew in there, sooo good and fresh! The place has a line, but it moves fast, youll probably get your food before you find a table.

Lovely hole in the wall kinda place, but when you enter you feel you just traveled to Mexico. Vibrant yellow walls and multi colored flags dripping from the ceiling and picnic style seating makes the place somehow very cozy. The service was super fast and they cook everything right there in front of you. I had the cabeza (beef head) and carnitas super tacos. Both were extremely good. Very messy to eat them but who cares when they taste that great, right? The complimentary nachos and salsas were just as good as the tacos. Everyone seemed to be ordering the burrito so it must be good. Ill have to try it for myself and judge, but so far Taqueria Cancun you got my approval!
