Ahh The inFamous...The One & Only, The San Diego *Chicken Pie Shop* I came here for the first time, 29yrs. Ago..haha sounds like something my mothers stories begin Like, But if it were her story, it WOULD begin as follows: The 1st. Time your father took me here was 52 years ago when I was pregnant with you Mary Anne, my Fifth child, and last I might add. Good ole Mom and her wonderful working, haha lol. We had 4 children to feed, she would say: and this place was our heaven, to take your 2 bothers and 2 sisters, you on the Way, To the chicken Pie shop, because the Pie Dinner back then was only 65¢ and your fathers Steak Dinner was only 85¢, and we had 2days worth of leftovers to boot! The only thing that has changed is the Price, but it is at fair market value, there isnt a place I can THINK of, where you can get A chicken Pie, mashed potatoes and gravy, assorted Vegetables, Cole slaw, a fresh baked warm roll, with real butter,, a hot coffee/soda and a slice of fresh made peach pie. All included for just $8.49 add soup/salad for ,99¢ If you havent been able to get there, I suggest you do, dont say I never told you where to get the most for your $ in San Diego, because I Did! Speachless... I had heard so much about the place but was at a loss when I got there. We had the pie dinner and lets just say that there wasnt anything on the table Sysco didnt provide. The plates were grade school or worse, the flatware straight from Syscos metal press and there was a noted delightful use of Sysco chicken puss yellow-green chicken gravy. The pie was a dense mass of chicken, Turkey and yellow gravy binder. The sides were freshly warmed haven fallen from a can. Dessert was stale and tasted of refridgerated mischief. Seriously, this might be a staple in San Diegos by gone beauty and I am sure when the heavenly place opened something of the spirit of Homemade prevailed but it has since moved on. Please dont doubt I walked away full. I did but a woefully bloated and starch filled mess. For the cost of 10 dollars you get what you expect but I would advise against it. Taco Bell is just across the street. On a plus, the service was charming, prompt and very anti small talk. Just keep an comin. If you enjoy quality hospital (although heavy) food, this is your place!

I use to work here and let me say a few things... First, I had quit this job on my own terms to fulfill another purpose in life. Second, I had come in for breakfasf and was kicked out for no reason. Third, The managers here are all white priveledged and look down on anyone who didnt meet there standards. Fourth, The food is great dont get me wrong but they do resuse and recycle old food. Fifth, They are not as sanitary as you would like it to be. Sad Day for the San Diego Chicken Pie Shop. I just wanted to enjoy a good meal where I used to work before I didnt get another chance too.

Ive been coming here since I was a child. Its a clean, open restaurant with simple diner food for cheap. I always get the Chicken Pie Dinner: one chicken pot pie (chicken and gravy and nothing else), mashed potatoes, coleslaw, veggies, a dinner roll, and desert (pie or ice cream). All for less than $10. Servers are always polite and attentive. The chicken pot pies are nothing less than amazing, but Rd clear to me that the mashed potatoes are from a box and the pie fillings are from a can. Still worth the trip, especially if you dont have a lot of money or have a lot of people to feed.

This place is one of my all-time favorites! It doesnt look like much, the scenery made up of chickens and usually middle-aged to elder visitors, but dont judge a book by its cover, it has the best chicken pie Ive ever laid eyes on and its biscuits could make you swoon, not to mention the fastest service Ive encountered. Youre served in a maximum of three minutes, and your food (for a family of four) comes in less then five minutes. The desserts are also to die for, my personal favorite being the chocolate cream pie. I highly recommend this joint for a fantastic tasting dinner.

Really too bad that someone who was obviously born with a silver spoon tucked in their butt wasnt happy with their experience, but did you really have to get so unclassily graphic with your descriptions? You could have gotten your point across by just saying you werent happy with it. Okay, so maybe the Pie Shops menu and their bill of fare isnt on par with whatever 5 star restaurant your stuck up ass is accustomed to, but what it is, is..Really good (delicious) old fashioned comfort food that is served by awesome people, at a very reasonable price. Well done, Bob and Lisa!

Been there 3 times. Each time I tried a different dish. Was not impressed. Was so dissatisfied with the last dinner, I had to say something. My last visit, I ordered the chicken dinner. THAT was the worst fried chicken I had ever seen and tasted. The crust was the first hint. The taste of the chicken, with the crust was a taste, (If you call it that), was tasteless, bland, and pitiful. My girlfriend likes it because went there as a kid. She likes the memories. I didnt grow up here, so it all about the taste. After paying our bill, I went up the street to Churchs.

Love the chicken pie dinner! Cant beat the price! Pie is filled with meat no fillers! The crust is nice and flaky with a buttery rich flavor. YUM! Mash potatoes with gravy and your veggies on the side along with the best tasting dinner rolls around. A great little plate of coleslaw not to tangy or to sweet just right for me. All that and a piece of pie of your choice all for 8.99. No better meal out there for this price! Service is fast and take out is ready and steaming hot. Loved this Icon of San Diego as a girl and still love it as an adult!

Yes They Have A Great Menu For American Fried Chicken And Pies. Dont Let The Photos Fool You.It Looks Great and Like Mom Used To Make However Every Dish Including The Chicken-Potatoes And Gravy Was Tasteless. So Bland Without One Single Tingle Of The Taste Buds. So Very Bland We Couldnt Eat It. The Service And Ownership Were Great However And Very Welcoming. Its Been At The Same Location For Eons.Maybe Its Time Mom And Pop Retired Or Salt And Pepper And Season Your Food. It Would Be A Much More Pleasant Down Home Like Meal. Thank You

Although we have been happy with this place 7/16/17 was definitely NOT the case. We both ordered the pie dinner and when it finally came I asked the server for a little more gravy. I was told it would cost $1.30. WHAT??? I have NEVER been charged for just a "little" more gravy. It was disturbing. When we went to take home a dinner for a friend I noticed that extra gravy was only $1,00. I wonder who thought that through? If we go back I will place my order and go to the take out counter and buy gravy there.
