Good ole O.T. I went through a period of time in my late 20s when I was a bit of a barfly. The "divier"( I know divier isnt a word but you get it), the better. The Flame Club was my regular haunt, and wow that place has changed A LOT in 10 years! The day crowd still has a small crew of die hards but at night it turned into like a hip hop club! Anyway, so at the height of my barfly stage I would hit up Old Tavern maybe 3-4 times a week. The Good: Cheap, strong drinks (its not a dive without the presence of both of these things imo) Relatively friendly regulars and bartenders Good people watching ( I love ya Ground Chuck!) Good jukebox The Bad: Stinky, funky, bathrooms! The odor seeps into the bar and there are a few seats that are sometimes unbearable to sit in More fights than the average dive bar Dirty, stanky bathrooms! Did I mention the sewage aroma emanating from the bathrooms? In conclusion, I havent been a "regular" there for a number of years now so to be fair some of these things may have changed for the better or worse. But I did stop by for a quick drink with a friend last week and sadly the smell was still ripe as ever. The question is, would Old Tavern be Old Tavern minus the nostril assault? All I can say is that it was an oddly nostalgic moment when I caught my first familiar whiff so I wont turn down an invite. I just wont sit in the seats by the bathroom!

Spent a great deal of my mid twenties frequenting this place for darts and cheap beer. That was nearly twenty years ago. It was one of the best dive bars in Midtown Sacramento at the time. Not sure what its like now, but I can still hear the "LAST CALL!!!" as yelled out by the staff (some of them family of the owners) accompanied by the frenzy to get that last $1 pint of PBR or Hams Dark before heading off to get a slice of pizza at "Pieces".

Prices have gone up, which pisses me off because I like coming here because its cheap. Some nights OT is cool, therell be some punk or metal playing on the jukebox, some nights its lame with all the basic "party people" playing their crappy music. Some nights theres a shady looking element enjoying some booze

New owners, new look and feel. They opened up the previously walled over windows and let some light in. No longer a Booze Bunker" and currently the only place that I know of in Midtown/Downtown to get a big juicy cheeseburger for $5 and a stiff $3.5 drink.

I just called because google maps says "place closed" , but theyre not. Theyre always open. I ride my bike by this place like every day. Its a cute little dive bar.

Pretty cool retro bar. There was a fight when we went there. The bouncers were on it immediately at least. Somewhat expensive.
