ROACHES!!! I never got a chance to even sit down, so I dont know what the food is like. What I do know is that as soon as we were taken to our booth, my daughter screamed. Low and behold, there was a cockroach crawling across the tabletop and up the wall. We caught the host walking away and pointed to it when he came back. He saw it crawling up the wall, made a strange face, then said, "sorry guys. Do you want another table?" We politely declined and he rushed to the front (I guess to inform the manager). As we were walking out the door, the manager only said, "sorry about that guys." There was no remorse, no explanation, nothing. If there was a roach comfortable enough to crawl across the table in the middle of the afternoon, youd better believe there are tons more in the restaurant... especially where the food is cooked and stored. It was disappointing since I had heard such great things. We wont be returning.

The Original Red Onion was definitely a good place to eat, however it was not the best Mexican food I have eaten. The service was not the best and they seemed preoccupied with other things around the restaurant. I think they did not have enough waiters available to serve when I ate there. Contrary to that, the food was decent and in my opinion was worth the price. I got the Red Onion Street Tacos, which were decent tasting. They were priced at $9.95, which was a good deal compared to some other Mexican places I have visited. Overall, if you are looking for a fun, relaxed environment and pretty good food, the Red Onion is for you.

Service was decent and food was good. The food here isnt overwhelming and I probably would have given it a 3 but the options for kids were good and the special I had was above average. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant had ample street parking. The place was clean and the wait staff was punctual and friendly. One thing to note was I actually found a rock in my food. Luckily I didnt crack a tooth but I was disappointed that a manager didnt come over to applogize (they did take my dinner off the bill though). I would go back but there is better mexican food in the southbay.

This restaurant has been in the same location since the 1960s so one would have expected quality food and service. The wait was close to an hour for a party of 4 at 5:30pm on a Saturday. Surprisingly, ALL of the dishes which our party ordered were overly spicy even though our server specifically told us that they were "mild". We will not be returning to The Red Onion again. Options such as El Torito and El Torito Grill offer food and service that are FAR superior.

Great Sonoran style Mexican food in a laid back setting. The prices are good, the food is great and the service is good too. I typically get the dinners that include the salad. Also, since they have several different rooms, each with a different look, every time you go you could end up in a different environment. For example, one room looks like a living room (fireplace, book shelves, etc.), and one has memorabilia from places like The Brown Derby).

This is a local restaurant. You go there cause you live close by! The food is ook, nothing special and the service does not add much to it. The salsa does not taste fresh and it seems like it took them 3 mins to make. The Guac is just alright with no flavor what so ever ! The chips! The chips is good (they got two stars not one ! ) Got the chicken supreme deluxe burrito; nothing special. anyhow, cool ambiance, but service and food .. not so good

I have only been eating at the Red Onion for 40 years. I still see a few of the service personel from a long time ago working there. The food has not changed very much at all after all that time, and that has to tell you something. Its GOOD!!! This is a Sonora style Mexican restaurant. I really recommend the Carnitas dinner, the shredded beef enchiladas, and the tostadas. You also cant go wrong with the fajitas, with REAL Filet Mignon!!! Enjoy!

We came out with family while we were visiting from Ohio. I had the guacamole and enjoyed the kick of cilantro it had. The margarita was fantastic. The carne asada was excellent, as well as the chorizo. Service was fast and friendly, and the decor was neat and thoughtful. I so enjoyed the fountain right by the door.

Numerous but lifeless wait staff are angered easily. Red onion has been a legend and everybodys favorite for a long time. Ive been here several dozen times. The menu is fabulously long. but its an old fashioned restaurant that wont surprise you with anything truly special or unique.

The best place to eat with the family! The prices are decent, the inside of the building is interesting. I visit maybe once a month. If you have kids who are into Pokemon Go, there are two poke stops at this place so they can stay busy with that if they wiggle too much.

If youve been on the Palos Verdes Peninsula long enough, you know The Original Red Onion and the history of the family that owns it. Friendly servers, super friendly owner, great Mexican food and the skinny margaritas hand made are almost as good as mine :)

OMG.. I dont even ENJOY Mexican food, we only came here because of my Husbands choice.. But this is THE BEST ever! We had the combination (steak, chicken, & shrimp) fajitas.. All I can say is, we WILL be coming back. And we live 20 miles away!

Not sure what the Scary Green Avocado dressing was but Im probably not going back after being a loyal customer. If they let something as Alien looking as that on the table makes me wonder whats going on that I cant see. Yikes.

Food is pretty generic Tex mex style Mexican food. It is rather overpriced for what it is, but the ambiance of the Mexican restaurant is also a big key in attracting citizens in Palos verdes to keep remain coming.

By far the best Mexican Food restaurant!! The food is always on point and isnt expensive at all. The salsa is the best on the planet. We love coming. Only complaint is the small water glass and drinking glass

This is a place that looks like it should be awesome, but the food was disappointing. Everything was bland, including the rellano and avocado dressing. Drinks were average. I was hoping for much more.

Booked a surprise birthday for my mom, towards the end and close to the closing time the waiter would not give us time to collect money from everyone. They were constantly coming back and hounding us.

I dont eat here often but I always enjoy it when I do. The menu selections are wonderful. The staff is very friendly and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is just absolutely enjoyable.
